Obama Amnesty Plan Fallout Continues

"Some conservative immigration activists said they feared the announcement signaled a substantive change in immigration policy enacted without congressional approval. Ira Mehlman, a Seattle-based spokesman for the conservative Federation for American Immigration Reform, called the new policy, 'an end run around Congress and clearly motivated by the president's political interests, wanting to juice up his constituents,'" the LA Times writes of President Obama's amnesty announcement on Friday.

"The announcement, made five months before the presidential election, was strongly questioned by critics of Obama who believe the policy change should have been debated on Capitol Hill. 'He knew from the very beginning, this president, that amnesty was rejected time and time again by the American people," said Bob Dane, Communications Director at Federation for American Immigration Reform. 'He knew amnesty was not possible legislatively and yet by executive fiat he has declared the new plan of the land,'" Fox News wrote.

"Dan Stein, spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, called it a "brazen usurpation" of congressional authority. 'Over the past 10 years, Congress has repeatedly rejected the Dream Act,' Stein said. 'Now, five months before the presidential election, the Obama administration is unilaterally rewriting our immigration laws, defying congressional authority and threatening our constitutional framework,'" the Salt Lake Tribune writes.
