Arizona, Nebraska Laws To Take Effect This Week


"After months of protest marches, federal lawsuits, economic boycotts and support rallies, two controversial immigration laws in Arizona and Nebraska are scheduled to take effect on Thursday," USA Today writes. The measures are facing court challenges and a ruling is expected this week in the federal lawsuits challenging Arizona's SB 1070.

Also today, Reuters has a long profile of State Sen. Russell Pearce, who was the driving force in Arizona behind SB 1070. 'Nobody could have guessed the impact it would have,' Pearce said of the divisive law he crafted to crack down on illegal immigrants in his state -- of which there are nearly half a million. 'Who could have guessed that I would have pissed off the president of the United States?'"
