Krauthammer: The True Radical Nature of the SB 1070 Decision
Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer says the SB 1070 ruling wrongly holds that the president has substantial power to unilaterally determine what the law is. "And there's the rub: the Obama administration's inability to distinguish policy from law. This becomes particularly perverse regarding immigration when, as Justice Antonin Scalia points out, what the administration delicately calls its priorities is quite simply a determination not to enforce the law as passed."
"Consider this breathtaking cascade: An administration violates its constitutional duty to execute the law by deliberately refusing to enforce it. It then characterizes its non-enforcement as simply establishing priorities. It then tries to strike down a state law on immigration on the grounds that it contradicts federal law -- by actually trying to enforce it!"

Illegal Aliens Arrested Protesting Deportations Upset They May Miss Amnesty
"The problem is that, starting two years ago, a number of so-called DREAMers were in such despair over the legislation's stalled progress in Congress that they felt they had no choice but to make a concerted turn towards civil disobedience in order to show what it means to be 'undocumented and unafraid.' In other words, in the interest of furthering their cause, they intentionally sought to get arrested and charged with a crime. Now, their activism may be held against them when they seek the benefits they fought for," says The New Republic.

California Senate Passes Anti-Cooperation Measure
"The California Senate passed a bill on Thursday that seeks to shield illegal immigrants from status checks by local police and challenges Republican-backed immigration crackdowns in Arizona and other U.S. states," Reuters reported.
"The Democrat-led state Senate voted 21 to 13 to approve the California Trust Act, dubbed by supporters as the "anti-Arizona" bill. It blocks local police from referring a detainee to immigration officials for deportation unless that person has been convicted of a violent or serious felony."

Immigrant Reporter Could Be Latest Beneficiary of Obama Amnesty
"A reporter for Georgia's largest Spanish-language newspaper who frequently writes about immigration issues has recently found himself caught up in his own immigration drama. When an immigration judge last month denied Mario Guevara's application for asylum and ordered him and his family to leave the country within 60 days, his world was turned upside down," the AP reports.
"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has decided Guevara is a candidate for prosecutorial discretion, and the agency is working with him to close his case, an ICE spokesman said Thursday."
