Dan Stein Op-Ed: Obama's Imperial Amnesty Decree

"President Obama's unilateral declaration last week that he will stop enforcing immigration laws for an entire class of individuals -- at least through the November election -- took many by surprise. Most are under the impression that Congress, not the White House, makes the immigration laws of the United States," says FAIR President Dan Stein in an op-ed in the Daily Caller.

"They are right, of course. But the president's stunning audacity exposed a little-known secret about executive authority -- a rare vulnerability in our system that in the hands of an unscrupulous power-seeker creates a real danger to American liberty and self-determination. In reality, nothing except statesmanship and a patriotic impulse prevents any president from ignoring the nation's immigration laws and admitting millions of people just because he believes pleasing a particular ethnic bloc or foreign power is more important than the nation's right to self-determination."

Ira Mehlman Op-Ed: Why President Obama's Amnesty Decree is Wrong and Dangerous

"The President's decision to grant "deferred action" to these illegal aliens is a political move designed to energize his political base in advance of the November elections. Unfortunately, political pandering is the least egregious thing about the policy the President is implementing. Far more serious is the damage that President Obama's new policy is inflicting on our constitutional system of government and on the interests of the American people," says Ira Mehlman in a Townhall.com op-ed.

"In order to carry out his amnesty plan, President Obama is nullifying numerous laws made by Congress and, by executive fiat, is implementing legislation, known as the DREAM Act, that Congress has repeatedly rejected."

Boehner Says Obama Put Everyone in a Bad Position With Amnesty Order

"House Speaker John Boehner said Tuesday that President Obama's new policy temporarily preventing deportation of certain young, illegal immigrants announced last week "puts everyone in a difficult position." "I think we all have concerns for those who are caught in this trap through no fault of their own and are here," Boehner said in his first public reaction to the policy announced Friday," Fox2now.com reports.

Rubio Says He Wasn't Consulted by Obama

"President Obama's decision to relax immigration rules for hundreds of thousands of young illegal immigrants is a "short-term solution" that is "problematic" in the long run, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio said in an interview with ABC News," ABCNews.com reports.

"'These young people, they need a long-term solution, one that is balanced and does not encourage illegal immigration, but accommodates their situation,' the Miami-born son of Cuban immigrants said in the interview that will air tonight on World News With Diane Sawyer."
