Kobach Tackles Illegal Immigration Issue

"Not many politicians still mount deer heads on the walls of their offices, but Kris Kobach isn't afraid of going after big game. Despite the relative modesty of his position -- Kobach was elected Kansas secretary of state back in 2010 -- he is smack at the center of two of the most controversial issues states are facing today," Governing.com writes.

"Shortly after taking office last year, Kobach convinced the Kansas Legislature to pass what is arguably the nation's strictest voter fraud law. But Kobach is known most widely for his efforts to turn illegal immigration into a front-burner issue at the state and local levels."

Sen. Brown Campaigns on Immigration Stance

"In his bid for reelection, Senator Scott Brown is calling for tighter immigration policy and chiding his leading Democratic challenger, Elizabeth Warren, for her seeming opposition to the federal enforcement program known as Secure Communities," the Boston Globe says.

"But Warren refuses to be pinned down on the heated issue, calling for a more nuanced debate. Though in the past she has appeared to oppose the initiative, Warren would not declare a position last week, instead calling for further discussion with police about how the program has been working in other states."

Gutierrez Goes to Bat for Illegal Alien Facing Deportation

"U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, an Illinois Democrat who's become a leading advocate for undocumented immigrants, will be in Charlotte today to shine a spotlight on the case of a S.C. father of two - both of them U.S. citizens - who faces deportation," the Charlotte Observer writes.

"The reason Gabino Sanchez could be kicked out the country: Nine misdemeanor convictions, in South Carolina and Georgia, for driving without a license or driving an unregistered vehicle."
