DHS Finalizing Exit Tracking Plan
"The Department of Homeland Security is finalizing its plan for a biometric data system to track when immigrants leave the United States and will present it to Congress within 'weeks,' a top department official told a House Homeland Security subcommittee Tuesday," the AP reports.
"An exit system to track who is leaving the country and when has been sought since before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. DHS officials, including Secretary Janet Napolitano, have agreed with the need for such a program but have previously said it would be too costly."

Oregon Reps. Go After H-2B Visa Loopholes
"Sen. Jeff Merkley and Rep. Peter DeFazio will offer legislation Wednesday designed to close gaping loopholes in a visa program that allows forest companies to hire foreign workers even though there are an abundance of qualified - and idle - U.S. citizens in Oregon and elsewhere who would take the jobs," the Oregonian reports. "The flaws in what is known as the H-2B visa program burst into national view last fall when the Inspector General for the federal Department of Labor concluded that at least $7 million in federal stimulus money intended to provide jobs to unemployed Oregonians instead paid wages to 254 foreign workers."

"Kenner police have arrested an illegal immigrant living in LaPlace in connection with a fraudulent tax scam.
Police said Tuesday that $20,000 was seized as evidence from his vehicle. Officers responding to a disturbance Friday found Marvin Baca in an argument about false W-2 forms that he sold to another illegal immigrant for $1,500," the San Antonio Express News says.
