November 18, 2009 SPLC takes a "fascist" approach, says Fox's Bill O'Reilly by FAIR President Dan Stein Last night, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly said what many believe, that the tactics of the SPLC are "fascistic," seeking through feigned tolerance a calculated effort to smear into silence those with whom they disagree. Stein Report readers know that FAIR has been a target of the same sort of bigoted tactics for several years now. During the interview with Richard Cohen, head of the SPLC, Fox News host Bill O'Reily stated that the goal of the SPLC was to silence differing views, and labeled the tactics of the SPLC as "fascistic." O'Reilly said people should be welcoming our ability to hear and discuss issues from a range of viewpoints, not trying to stamp it out. (Note: The SPLC is celebrating the fact Lou Dobbs has left CNN, and the smear-shop has been taking credit for it with the public and its supporters. Earlier, Dobbs had labeled the SPLC a "national disgrace.") During the interview with O'Reilly, Cohen repeated a series of generalized attacks against Dobbs - declining, as usual, to name any demonstrable specifics - in a blizzard of smears that amounted to hysterical and vapid name-calling. In the end, it's clear that the SPLC's issue with Dobbs was over perspective and emphasis: the SPLC and its allies want to control what is "legitimate" to debate in this country. O'Reilly properly reacted negatively to Cohen's tactics, and saw in them the foundation of the SPLC's vicious propaganda techniques designed not to disagree but to marginalize and demonize. Many of us had thought that the SPLC's new culture of intellectual fascism had its start with hiring of a former reporter**, Mark Potok. It's now clear that the rot starts at the top. Left Selectively Quotes Scripture to Attack Borders Mark D. Tooley with the Institute on Religion and Democracy says that calls by some Evangelical groups for open borders clash with traditional positions on church, state, and civil law taken by most Christians. "Does the Bible specifically call for a virtual open borders policy and abrogation of immigration law enforcement? Not really. The Religious Left, now as always, selectively extracts Scripture to justify its latest political cause. Broad biblical calls for mercy and compassion always mystically mandate the Left's most recent social and cultural demands," Tooley says.
25,000 Site Visits Planned in Massive H-1B Audit USCIS plans to do 25,000 site visits this year, up from 5,000 in the past year, to check for fraud in H-1B visa applications. "In a letter to U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), Alejandro Mayorkas, director of the Citizenship and Immigration Services, said the agency began a site visit and verification program in July to check on the validity of H-1B applications. Mayorkas' letter was released on Tuesday by Grassley," Computerworld reported.
Napolitano's Border Security Claims Now Under Scrutiny Despite claims by DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano that the border is more secure with the completion of 600 miles of fencing, reports suggest that progress in other areas of the border has been hindered by environmental and other rules.
Mass. Gov. Wants Amnesty, In-State Tuition Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick instructed state department heads to prepare a plan to assist immigrants in the Bay State in assimilating. The order comes after a task force made recommendations to the Governor for more English classes, as well as in-state tuition and drivers' licenses for illegal immigrants.
