San Diego Union Tribune: Hispanic Caucus Demands Backfire
The San Diego Union Tribune says that the demands made by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus over health care coverage for illegal aliens will likely backfire. "After all that arm-twisting and horse-trading, we're no closer to real reform - of the health care system or the immigration system - than we were before. In fact, you could say that the members of the Hispanic caucus probably succeeded in helping to kill the House bill's chances in the Senate. The legislation was already radical enough, and they only pushed it more to the left and further away from the mainstream," says an editorial today.
1,200 Janitors Fired in Minnesota After Investigation

Casa de Maryland, PRLDF (Puerto Rican Legal Defense Fund), and other open-border groups have filed a $1 million lawsuit against Frederick County, Maryland, alleging racial profiling in the case of a Salvadoran woman detained by sheriff's deputies. "The complaint includes claims that federal law does not allow state or local police to enforce federal civil immigration laws and prevents these officers from making civil immigration arrests beyond narrow circumstances not relevant to Orellana Santos' arrest," the Frederick News Post writes.
SF Mayor Vows to Ignore Override of Veto on Sanctuary Law
San Francisco supervisors' will vote today on overriding Mayor Gavin Newsom's veto of an expansion of San Francisco's sanctuary policy for illegal aliens. "The city attorney said Campos' measure also could hamper efforts to settle a private lawsuit accusing San Francisco of violating a state law on reporting drug suspects to immigration officials. It might also expose city officials to criminal charges in a federal grand jury investigation into whether they knowingly transported or harbored illegal immigrants, the [City Attorney] memo said," according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
