Dan Stein Op-Ed: Non-citizens Shouldn't Cost Iowa a House Seat

FAIR president Dan Stein argues for having the Census count illegal immigrants so that states with a large number of them don't benefit at the cost of states that lose representation in Congress. "In 2008, the average Iowa congressional district contained 434,088 registered voters. By comparison, the Los Angeles district represented by Xavier Becerra had only 192,341 registered voters because of its large noncitizen population, many of whom are illegal aliens."

Some Drug Smugglers Now Sent to Mexico for Prosecution

In a policy shift, some drug smugglers caught along the U.S.-Mexico border are being sent back to Mexico for prosecution. "The reasons vary, but U.S. federal prosecutors in the Southwest have often rejected cases involving relatively small amounts of drugs, usually less than 500 pounds of marijuana, because of the large volume of those cases and limited resources to handle them," the San Diego Union Tribune reports.

New Tom Wolfe Novel Focuses on Cuban Immigration

Tom Wolfe's latest novel, "Back to Blood," focuses on the Cuban-American community in Florida and especially Miami. The expected release of the book is next fall. "You have people from another country with a different language and a very different culture coming into Miami and dominating it politically through the voting machine," Wolfe told the Post-Gazette.

Prosecutor Declines Charges for Police in Immigration Rally Fracas

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office said it would not file criminal charges against officers who broke up a demonstration by amnesty supporters in MacArthur Park. "LAPD officers were videotaped wielding batons and shooting rubber bullets in an attempt to disperse a largely peaceful crowd," the LA Times writes. In reality, many witnesses at the scene noted that individuals used the cover of the crowd to hurl rocks and other dangerous items at the police who were attempting to get the crowd to disperse.
