FAIR Launches New Facebook Series to Acknowledge Active Fans

In the past year, FAIR's Facebook Page has gained over 2,000 Fans- many of whom post and comment on the Page frequently. This month, in effort to acknowledge the efforts of some of our most active and influential fans, FAIR launched the "5 Questions With..." series. Each month a new fan will be featured in this series and asked to answer questions such as "Which part of the immigration issue do you feel most strongly about?" and "What advice can you give the rest of our Facebook fans?" Each post will be promoted in various ways throughout the month before a new fan is chosen.

This month's featured fan is Tom Dodson. Tom is a first generation American and a business owner in Arizona. Learn more about Tom and his views on immigration, the FAIR Facebook Page, and activism: "5 Questions With Tom Dodson." (Note: You do not need to have a Facebook account to view the article, though you will need a Facebook account to comment on the post.)

Poll Finds Amnesty Would Increase Illegal Immigration

Over half of Mexicans surveyed by a new Zogby poll said an amnesty in the U.S. would make it likely that someone they knew would attempt to come to the U.S. illegally. Also, roughly one-third of Mexicans would move to the U.S. if they could, despite the state of the economy.

Obama Picks U.S. Attorney Who Worked for Sanctuary City DA

President Obama has picked Stephanie Villafuerte as the next U.S. Attorney for Colorado. But as Michelle Malkin notes, Villafuerte worked for Bill Ritter, the district attorney for Denver who gave sweetheart plea agreements to illegal aliens so they could remain in the U.S. to commit more crimes. When Ritter's plea agreements were exposed by an ICE whistleblower, the government tried to prosecute him, and his supervisors lied at trial with no repercussion.

Senate to Vote on Census Citizenship Question

An amendment by Sens. David Vitter of Louisiana and Bob Bennett of Utah would require the Census to ask about citizenship. "Illegal aliens should not be included for the purposes of determining representation in Congress, and that's the bottom line here," said Sen. Vitter. The question is driven by the skew in Census results where districts are created, especially in California, where a large percentage of the population is ineligible to vote.

Supreme Court Hears Deportation Case

The Supreme Court heard arguments in the case of Jose Padilla (not related to the man detained as an enemy combatant). Padilla was charged with drug possession, and pled guilty after his attorney told him the charge would not make him deportable. The state court ruled that Padilla's old attorney was not obligated to advise on anything beyond the immediate consequence of pleading guilty.

Obama's Holiday Inn Detention Plan Pleases No One

The DHS has announced that it will begin using converted hotels to house immigration detainees instead of local prisons. "They're converting the longstanding detention model into a hospitality model," FAIR spokesman Bob Dane said. AILA criticized the measure, saying the real problem was enforcing the law at all. "We detain far too many people at high costs to the American taxpayer, with no real benefit," said AILA president David Leopold.

Evangelical Group Signs on to "Comprehensive" Reform

The National Association of Evangelicals endorsed a "comprehensive" immigration bill this week. "The resolution, approved overwhelmingly by voice vote of the NAE board, calls for the government to safeguard national borders, recognize the importance of family reunification and establish an 'equitable process toward earned legal status for currently undocumented immigrants,'" USA Today reported. One reason for the vote was that "the growing edge of evangelical churches and denominations in the United States is the immigrant community," according to Leith Anderson, president of NAE.
