Census Wont Put A Stop to Non-Existent Raids
Unlike the 2000 Census, the Census Bureau will not request a halt to immigration raids during the 2010 count. The Census announcement comes after the DHS has basically abandoned worksite raids, instead favoring employer audits.

Sen. Cornyn Says Dallas Case Shows Need for More Immigration Enforcement
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) says the case of Hosam Maher Husein Smadi, a Jordanian man here illegally, shows the need for more immigration enforcement. On a weekly call with reporters, Cornyn said, "[I]t continues to be important that we know who comes into our country, why they're here, and protect our country and keep it safe."

New Study Links Georgia Drought to Population Growth
"The drought that gripped the Southeast from 2005 to 2007 was not unprecedented and resulted from random weather events, not global warming, Columbia University researchers have concluded. They say its severe water shortages resulted from population growth more than rainfall patterns," the New York Times reported.

DHS Advisory Group Wants to Gut 287(g) Further
"A U.S. government task force recommended Wednesday that the federal Department of Homeland Security scale back an initiative that allows local authorities to enforce the country's immigration law," the McAllen Monitor reports. "The task force presented 18 other proposals Wednesday on issues ranging from streamlining the border crossing process to ongoing cooperation with Mexican law enforcement."
