Grassley Demands Action from DHS on H-1B Abuse
Computerworld reports that Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) "wants IT consulting companies that hire H-1B workers at third party client sites to prove that there is work waiting for them." Grassley prodded the agency into action last year after a report found that at least one in five H-1B visa applications had some type of fraud or violation. "Employers need to be held accountable so that foreign workers are not flooding the market, depressing wages, and taking jobs from qualified Americans," Grassley said in a letter to the agency.

There Is No Right to Financial Aid
The UC Irvine newspaper editorializes against financial aid for illegal alien students in the latest issue. State Sen. Gilbert Cedillo has introduced legislation to make illegal immigrants eligible for state based tuition assistance and financial aid. "[P]roviding grants and loans to these students would mean taking away the tax-generated money from the legal immigrants to those in the middle class who are entitled to those funds."

Officials Plan Swine Flu Vaccination for Illegal Immigrants
Public health officials say they are preparing a PR push to get illegal immigrants in the U.S. vaccinated against swine flu. "For an undocumented immigrant who lives in daily fear of being deported, contact with any quasi-governmental agency, even a public health department, induces anxiety," said one doctor, explaining the need for a special outreach effort.

Obama Administration's Enforcement Efforts: Firings Over Raids
Julia Preston with the New York Times says recent firings by American Apparel and other companies show the change in enforcement by the Obama administration from worksite raids to forcing employers to fire illegal workers. The new emphasis on all employers has support, as Rep. Brian Bilbray noted, "They [employers] seem to think that somehow the law doesn't matter, that crossing the line from legal to illegal is not a big deal."
