CRS Report: Policy Challenges in International Migration
The Congressional Research Service, the non-partisan research arm of Congress, produced a new report on challenges in making effective immigration policy. "The overview examines several possible issues for Congress as it considers new legislation on immigration reform, including (1) how new immigration legislation might affect migratory behavior and (2) the possible effects of increased or decreased migration on related policy issues," the report authors say.

Wife of Slain Officer Sues Houston Over Sanctuary Policy
"A Houston police sergeant, widowed when her police officer husband was shot to death by an illegal immigrant, has filed a lawsuit against the city of Houston and the police department asking that she be allowed to contact Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials regarding the immigration status of suspects she detains," the Houston Chronicle reported.

Center for American Progress Rallies Religious Groups to Support Amnesty
The Center for American Progress held a teleconference this week to assist left-leaning church groups in organizing behind another amnesty push. The new effort, dubbed, "Loving Thy Neighbor: Immigration Reform and Communities of Faith" is intended to be showcased in a congressional hearing soon.

Legal Immigrant Sentenced to 170 Years in Murder Trial, Was Able to Stay in U.S. After Previous Convictions
"A Baltimore man convicted of killing two men was sentenced this week to two terms of life plus 170 years in prison by a judge who questioned why he was allowed to stay in this country after previous convictions," the Baltimore Sun reported.
