Report: New Baucus Plan Would Bar Illegal Immigrants from Health Care

Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) laid out his plan for health care reform legislation yesterday, including a provision that the New York Times reports would exclude illegal immigrants from participating in the health insurance exchanges set up by the bill. "Negotiators said that their bill would include an immigration status verification requirement."

Ruben Navarrette: Obama's Big Errors on Health Care and Immigration

Columnist Ruben Navarrette says President Obama made a mistake trying to tackle health care legislation without dealing with (meaning legalize) illegal immigrants. In this article from the Dallas Morning News, Navarrette says that Obama should have left the line out of his speech about illegal immigrants, because it opened the door to Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) to object.

Astronaut Endorses Amnesty, Social Security for Illegal Immigrants

Jose Hernandez, an astronaut, said he endorsed amnesty and social security for illegal immigrants in a statement disavowed by NASA. (see the whole story from The Examiner here.) " I believe it's only fair to find a way to legalize them and give them an opportunity to work openly, so they can also retire in a traditional U.S. system," Hernandez said in a statement.
