Chamber of Commerce Loses Again on E-Verify Appeal

A judge rejected a last-hour appeal by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to stop implementation of new rules requiring federal contractors to use the E-Verify system. "Under the mandate, a clause requiring contractors and subcontractors to use the government's E-Verify system will be written into every new or renewed government contract starting Tuesday. It will also be written into every new work order issued under existing contracts, officials say."

83 Percent Say Government Health Plans Must Include Proof of Citizenship

"The health care plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats contains many controversial items that divide the general public. However, one area of consensus among the public is the desire to restrict government health care benefits to U.S. citizens only," says Rasmussen Reports. Eighty-three percent of voters polled said there should be proof of citizenship required to obtain government health benefits.

ICE Tightens Secrecy Rules Over 287(g)

As part of the revamp of 287(g), Immigration and Customs Enforcement is putting new limits on disclosure of information about immigration detentions. "A Tennessee sheriff who's a strong backer of a program that lets local authorities enforce federal immigration laws may stop participating because of new restrictions that could keep secret basic information like who's been detained," the AP reported.
