ACLU Sues Sheriff Arpaio

The ACLU has filed suit against Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio for detaining two Hispanic men near the site of a raid targeting illegal immigrants. The men were detained and questioned.

SF City Attorney Warns Change to Sanctuary Policy Would Invalidate It

San Francisco's city attorney warned city council members modifications to exempt criminal alien juveniles as part of a change to the city's sanctuary policy would doom the whole policy, under federal law. Under federal law no city or state can prohibit employees from disclosing the legal status of someone, but the changes proposed would do exactly that - opening San Francisco's sanctuary policy to legal challenge. The councilman pushing the changes was himself an illegal alien from Guatemala.

Gwinett County Warns Businesses to Start Using E-Verify

Gwinett County, GA, is warning upwards of 26,000 local businesses that they need to start complying with Georgia's E-verify legislation. The measure conditioned business licenses and tax certificates on compliance with federal hiring guidelines.

Calif. Gov. Candidate Whitman Endorses Guest-Worker Program

Meg Whitman, former Ebay exec and now candidate for California governor said she favored a guest-worker program to displace U.S. workers despite record unemployment. Whitman said she favored going after employers who hired illegal workers.
