Editor's Note on Comments
The Stein Report editorial staff would like to address the concerns of its bloggers and commenters that comments and blog entries seem to disappear or be erased. While we do apply a certain degree of editorial control over the content that is submitted the vast majority of entries are approved, and when approved they remain in the appropriate posted page.
In order to view your comments please keep in mind that you need to review the comments in the dedicated, individual archive page of the story that the comment was posted on. From now on, the daily archive pages will have the comment areas removed - the comments area on those pages was set incorrectly and this led people to believe their comments had disappeared. We've changed the daily pages (linked on the right side of the home page) to preserve the flow of the entries for that day, since discussions can be lengthy, and added a link by each entry to the individual page where comments can be read and posted.
Thanks again for your support of FAIR and the Stein Report.

Almost Half of Minor League Baseball Players are Cheap Foreign Labor
The Wall Street Journal had a revealing story this weekend about the effects of the Compete Act, sponsored by Sen. Diane Feinstein. The bill lifted the cap on the number of baseball players who could come in. The results show the increased use of cheaper foreign players - 3,500 out of 8,500 minor league players in the U.S. are now brought in on visas. Foreign players brought in usually have miniscule signing bonuses - often $10,000 or less compared to $100,000 for U.S. born players.

LA Times Editors: Don't Worry About Illegal Aliens Getting Free Health Care
The LA Times says in an editorial that concerns about illegal aliens getting taxpayer subsidized health insurance shouldn't stop Congress from passing a bill. While acknowledging that providing insurance for every illegal alien might have an impact on the number of people coming to the U.S. illegally, the editorial tries to downplay the cost impact of illegal immigration, ignoring the scores of hospitals closed along the U.S.-Mexico border because of the costs of uncompensated care for illegal immigrants.

U.S. Colleges Tout Benefits of Not Hiring Americans
A post at the Slashdot tech news forum illustrates the problem facing American students - even their own universities are telling employers not to hire them. The University of Pittsburg, as well as USC and Iowa State University were among those cited for having brochures touting the benefits of hiring foreign students under the OPT (Optional Practical Training) loophole - benefits that include paying no FICA taxes.
