Napolitano Playing Politics with DHS

James Jay Carafano says DHS secretary Janet Napolitano is playing politics with the department, instead of focusing on enforcing immigration law. He notes that the DHS must have credibility on enforcement to even consider the amnesty bills being proposed. But, recent actions by the DHS have undercut the enforcement initiatives started by the Bush administration. Also see this USA Today interview with Napolitano.



 



Obama Administration Making Arpaio A Tough Offer to Refuse

As part of the restructuring of the 287(g) program to gut interior enforcement, the DHS is now demanding Sheriff Joe Arpaio stop arresting illegal immigrants who have not committed other crimes. The DHS would also stop identifying illegal immigrants held in local jails if Arpaio doesn't agree to the new conditions.



 



Prince William Residents Overwhelmingly Support Enforcement Effort

Over 80 percent of Prince William County, Virginia, residents say they favor the county's stepped up efforts to arrest and deport illegal immigrants. The results come from a report requested by the police department of public reaction to the new policy. The report also found positive reaction by police, as the initial fears of lawsuits and disruption proved false.
