June 16, 2009 ACLU Opposes Proposed Detention Center in AZ The American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona has written U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano opposing the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center near the Arizona border with Mexico. It is clear that the ACLU, which favors more lenient immigration policies, is using this issue in its ongoing effort to stop Sheriff Joe Arpaio from performing his law enforcement duties. Faced with this prospect, many illegal aliens would go home on their own.
