Border Security Key to Successful Immigration Policy
Announcement last week by the Obama administration that it was finally pushing ahead with plans to build a multibillion-dollar "virtual fence" along the U.S. border with Mexico was welcome news for advocates of stronger border enforcement. Report Says Close Relationship Between Foreclosures and Immigration
According to a Pew Hispanic Center report released on Tuesday, counties with high foreclosure rates also tend to have large immigrant populations. The report, titled "Through Boom and Bust: Minorities, Immigrants and Homeownership," shows that counties with high foreclosure rates exhibit other factors, including rising unemployment rates and sinking home values. Napolitano: "I'm a big supporter of E-Verify"
During her testimony in front of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committee yesterday, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano expressed strong support for a permanent extension of the widely successful E-Verify program. Secretary Napolitano was also questioned on matters such as funding for border security efforts, the department's priorities for targeting illegal immigrants inside the country and whether federal contractors should be required to verify the legal status of their workers.
