The Department of Homeland Security on Thursday issued new work site enforcement guidelines that shift the focus to employers rather than illegal workers. The new guidelines depart from the Bush-era focus on illegal workers and instruct agents to conduct "carefully planned criminal investigations" of employers and to look for evidence that they may be involved in smuggling or visa fraud. Enforcement of Immigration Laws is Important for One NJ Town
Despite President Barack Obama's push for mass amnesty that most likely would nullify 287(g), one New Jersey town mayor wants current laws enforced. Democratic Morristown, NJ, Mayor Donald Cresitello said that while he supports a "pathway to citizenship" for illegal immigrants, he favors strict enforcement of the border, reiterated that to cross the border illegally is a federal crime, and that hiring undocumented workers and housing them are also federal crimes.
