Lawsuit Challenges Okla. Enforcement Law

"A coalition of business groups is asking a U.S. appeals court to prevent an Oklahoma anti-illegal immigration law from being enforced. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Oklahoma Restaurant Association, and the Oklahoma Hotel and Lodging Association, among others, say immigration enforcement should be left to the federal government, not the states, Legal Newsline reported Wednesday," UPI writes. "The groups say the Oklahoma law, which requires employers to verify the immigration status of employees and contractors or subcontractors, forces them to use the voluntary federal online verification system to determine workers' legal status. The law, which isn't being enforced, also requires that businesses with state contracts to withhold income taxes of contractors and subcontractors if they don't use the federal verification system."

GEE, WHAT ELSE IS NEW!

SAME OLD ANTI-AMERICAN, OPEN BORDER NUTS AND THEIR NONSENSE.

Posted by: American Me on October 15, 2008 12:48 PM

Of course the hospitatlity and restaurant associations are behind the lack of enforcement of immigration laws. Without the slave labor they wouldn't be able to compete or make the $$$$$ they do without haveing to pay higher wages.

Our immigration laws need to be enforced at all levels.

I remember when I was in high school everyone looked for summer jobs - working in the fruit and nut orchards. Working the packing plants. These jobs are still out there but are mostly being accepted at low wages by illegals because the employer can get away with it. Those are places that ICE needs to enforce the laws.

This crap from the Chamber of Commerce is so obviously disingenuous; for them it's all about displacing American workers with cheap foreign labor and avoiding the responsibility of being a legitimate employer.

The C of C guys don't give a damn about this country. They'd sell their grandma's house if they could make a buck on it ...

What a despicable bunch of people!

The people of Oklahoma - other than the free immigration activists - support the efforts to stop illegal immigration. We are regularly victimized by uninsured drivers. Nearly 60% of the babies are born using Medicaid. Formerly nice areas where large numbers of immigrants have settled regularly have shootings by likely gang members.

It is not as bad as Northwest Arkansas. I went to the mall and was intimidated by heavily tatooed young men who I guessed were gang members.

I'M ROLLING ON THE GROUND IN LAUGHTER

Leave enforcement of our Constitutional immigration laws to the same federal government that initiates illegal bank bailouts per our Constitution....LOL

Just remember, : We cannot expect our current national problems to be solved by the same minds who caused them.

GREAT TAKE SICK 'N TIRED

The Socialist Dem/Rep federal bailouts were a complete failure. Home mortgage interest rates are going through the roof the last few weeks since the bailouts; expect more massive home price collapses too.

How many more examples do Americans need from the Chambers of Commerce across the nation, and other groups that GREED IS KILLING THIS NATION. Pure greed, whether it is the type that the Wall Street Bandits have perpetrated on this nation, or your local Chamber of Commerce putting profit before the welfare of the citizenry. Folks, it is all unsustainable, nation destroying greed.

Rep. Poe: Terrorism is an Immigration Enforcement Issue

"Edward Schumacher-Matos's Oct. 2 book review of "The Closing of the American Border" by Edward Alden could more accurately have been called "How Quickly We Forget." While it may represent an accurate account of the written work, its conclusions portray an astonishing disregard for recent history, most notably the 9/11 terrorist attacks just seven years ago. To suggest that immigration enforcement and counterterrorism should be treated separately is simply wrong," says Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX) in a letter to the Wall Street Journal. "We know now that several of the 9/11 terrorists abused the nation's immigration laws. The fact is that if the immigration enforcement tools that exist today had been in place prior to 9/11, each of the hijackers would have received additional scrutiny by law enforcement authorities."

THE OPEN BORDER NUTS HAVE IT ALL FIGURED OUT

Terrorists mixed in with their foreign overpopulation isn't the problem; its the legal American Middle Class trying to survive their foreign overpopulation that is the problem.

Posted by: Softwarengineer on October 16, 2008 11:16 AM

Ted Poe is one of the better Congressmen on immigration, he even voted against the bailout bill, (unlike Tancredo) We need more people in Congress like him!
It seems odd to me that a country like ours can be so hell bent on keeping us safe from terrorism at the airports but at the same time have OPEN BORDERS in spite of all the armed confrontations and meyham that is happening at the border. This does not add up...

Kennedy, Menendez Bill Would Restrict Raids

"With federal authorities stepping up immigration enforcement raids across the country, Sens. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts and Robert Menendez of New Jersey are sponsoring a bill to protect the rights of U.S. citizens and legal residents who get caught up in them," the AP reported. "The two Democratic lawmakers argue that the raids are often conducted in a sweeping fashion that nets lawful residents and American citizens who happen to be working alongside undocumented immigrants. Those who can't produce papers such as a birth certificate or passport proving U.S. citizenship or legal residency are often detained. The legislation would require immigration agents to advise people being detained of their rights, including the option of remaining silent or seeking legal counsel, similar to what police officers must do in arresting criminal suspects."

It didn`t take the corporate puppet politicians long, to try and stop immigration enforcement... We have unemployment for Americans on the rise, and a weak economy, and these clowns in Washington are still doing all they can for illegal aliens. It`s just mind boggling how these useless traitor politicians keep on getting re-elected over and over again.

WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Posted by: American Me on October 15, 2008 12:39 PM

Screw that! If a legal is knowingly working next to a known illegal then they should be detained until such time as citizenship can be assertained! Tough munchees if they get caught! They deserve it!

I have no pity for any of these people! Nor would I have any sympathy for an employer - they should be shut down, fined and jailed!

These past raids in which children were brought to the raid site to attempt to pursuade ICE agents that these children would lose their care - oh well! I believe that is what we pay CPS for. Send Pedro and Maria back home. If they want to take their child with them; let them!

Sounds nice on the face of it, but if you really are an American citizen or legal resident, what is it you need to remain "silent" about? Don't you want to say I'm a citizen, but I don't have my papers or proof with me, but my social security number is such and such and you can look it up, I have nothing to hide. I can't imagine a single legitimate reason that a citizen or legal resident needs to remain silent. Now, if you're not here legally, you might not want to say anything, but that should not be acceptable.

BABY WITH BATH WATER

In this case we do throw the illegal alien baby out with the legal citizen bath water....since the illegal alien employers mixed 'em together, what choice do we have, except to lock the illegal alien employer up, Kennedy?

In 1954, when the decision in Brown vs. The Board of Education came down from the Supreme Court, Thurgood Marshall and other civil rights attorneys and activists felt they had achieved their goal of ending racial discrimination. Many were trying to decide what new career paths they would follow. They soon learned however that "all deliberate speed" [to end segregation] would require fifty or more years of activism. When the US economy hit bottom and I read that many illegal aliens were going home, I mistakenly thought we were at a watershed. Surely Menendez would not try to piggy back 500,000 visas on the back of E-verify now. BUT NO,like the racists after the Brown decision, he and others of his ilk are not giving up. There are simply taking a different approach. Wearily but with firm determination, I will continue the fight for my country.

What's new?

Both of the "open border crazies" want to displace American workers and import more crime and poverty.

Posted by: Rick S on October 16, 2008 04:24 PM

I was in a raid at mt work place about 15 years ago. I'm a Us citizen and it didn't bother me a bit so show proff that I was a US Citizen. Chamber of commerce and the hotel and resturant people all are looking for cheap labor and he fear that this people have of turnimg in an employer who is abusing them.

When are the people of Massachusetts going to vote this anti-American Kennedy joker out of office? Does anyone there have a lick of sense???

Arkansas Consulate Issues Matricula Cards, Banks Continue to Accept Them

"[Arkansas' Mexican consulate] reports that the greatest demand is for the identification card, called the matricula consular in Spanish and issued by the Mexican government since 1871. The card represents more than half of all documents issued . . . A dispute has erupted over the use of the card in acquiring an American driver's license. The state of Arkansas does not accept foreign documents other than passports when issuing driver's licenses. Foreign passports must be accompanied by an Immigration and Naturalization Services card or a U.S. visa," the Arkansas Democrat Gazette reports.

"It's unconscionable for U.S. banks to identify an illegal population as a group of potential customers, and to some extent we don't really know the depth of it that may very well be part of the problem with our subprime mortgage crisis and credit crisis," [FAIR spokesman] Dane said. "There are times where identification theft, financial meltdown and risk of terrorism ought to really supersede the acceptance of these Mexican governmentissued ID cards."

MICKEY MOUSE CARD!

NOTHING BUT FRAUD, AND JUST ANOTHER WAY FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS TO SCAM THE SYSTEM, CREATED BY THE MORONS IN WASHINGTON.

Posted by: American Me on October 15, 2008 12:43 PM

Duhhhhhhhhhh!

I may not be smarter than a fifth grader but I'll be then even one of the kids on that show could tell you it is stupid to have a foreign government issue a card and automatically have it accepted by a U.S. troubled bank. . . let alone use it to qualify for a home loan.

"WE THE PEOPLE" STILL DO HAVE A CONSTITUTION

Is just the open border nuts like to ignore it by making government bailouts to illegal alien overpopulation. Both the bank bailouts and the illegal aliens are prohibited by Constitutional laws.

THIS GOVERNMENT WILL NEVER LEARN. COME ANOTHER 9/11, AND THIS WON'T BE BY PLANES, THIS WILL BE BY ''WALKING OVER THE BORDER'' AND USING MEXICAN CARDS. THE GANGS HAVE IT ALL DOWN PAT, THE TAKE OVER OF AMERICA,
ALL WITH THE HELP OF ''OUR GOVERNMENT'' AS THEY WON'T DO WHAT IS RIGHT. CLOSE THE BORDER, SEND THEM ''ALL'' HOME.

Posted by: SUSAN MARIANO on October 15, 2008 05:50 PM

Well, our banks certainly showed sterling judgement in extending all the 30 to 1 leveraged sub-prime loans that wrecked the financial markets.

Why should we expect them to be any more competent about providing bank accounts to illegal aliens?

What to they care ... if they screw up, the liberals in the government will bail them out with our taxes.
