Arizona Prop. 202 Flunks Truth in Advertising

Arizona already has an effective state policy against hiring illegal aliens. Over the strong objections and large sums of money spent by the Chamber of Commerce and other business interests to defeat Proposition 200 in 2004, Arizona voters enacted strong measures to hold businesses accountable. So why would the very same people who fought Proposition 200, and who opposed the mandatory use of E-Verify to prevent the hiring of illegal aliens, suddenly be behind Proposition 202, a ballot initiative they call The Stop Illegal Hiring Act?" asks FAIR in a news release.

In this case, which "Initiative Shell" has the real enforcement method, like E-verify, and which "Intiative Shell" is just hotair and already Constitutional Law anyway.

The open border nut portion of our government pretends they're fighting uncontrolled population just to get re-elected.

Its all smoke and mirrors.

As commentators point out, if it passes, the people of Arizona will soon discover that they were defrauded, and they will no doubt take aggressive action against the perpetrators.

700 Billion Reasons to Reform Immigration

"Earlier this month, Congress and President Bush committed $700 billion of our children's and grandchildren's money in a desperate effort to stave off a financial meltdown. Judging from the reaction of the markets, that sum may only be a small down payment on the real cost of decades of criminally irresponsible policies promulgated in Washington and on Wall Street," says FAIR media director Ira Mehlman in an op-ed today. "At the intersection of Greed and Recklessness & Greed and Recklessness stands U.S. immigration policy. Immigrants are not to blame for the nation's economic crisis, but immigration policy as it has been implemented (or ignored) over the past several decades is both emblematic of and a major contributing factor to the circumstances that landed our nation in the current mess."

AMEN IRA

I'd add too that the 100M added to our population since 1990 has been basically linear [don't blame it all on Bush or Clinton, as it was equally both their faults] and mostly immigration....adding in the illegal aliens borrowing the subprime loans too, makes it even worse.

The legal American citizen Baby Boomers did not cause this post 1990 population growth; it was clearly uncontrolled immigration. The need to build new homes and degrade the environment since 1990 was basically uncontrolled immigration and a concurrent shut down of our American domestic industrial base [globalization].

Here's some Numbersusa data in part:

"....1970-80
The American fertility rate fell to replacement level in 1972, making it possible for the nation to eventually reach a widely held dream for a stable population. A national government commission recommended that the nation would be best served in reaching its environmental, economic and social goals by a stabilizing population. Numerous experts and commentators predicted that each decade would see lower and lower population growth until early in the 21st century there would be no growth at all.

1980-90
Despite continuing below-replacement-level fertility, population growth continued at the level of the previous decade. The reason was that Congress had created a system of chain migration that snowballed and doubled annual legal immigration over traditional levels. Further adding to the population, Congress for the first time ever rewarded illegal aliens -- about 3 million of them -- with a path to citizenship. Federal immigration policy was negating the results of Americans choosing to have smaller families.

1990-2000
The dream of a stabilized — or even a stabilizing — population was proven to be nothing but a fairy tale as U.S. population exploded with its biggest growth ever. The Baby Boom peak was exceeded — not by a big increase in Americans' babies but because Congress further increased immigration to a level almost quadruple the traditional level. And federal decisions to stop enforcing most laws against illegal immigration in the interior of the country led to additional higher levels of illegal aliens in the country. Yet another cause of the boom was immigrant fertility. Although American natives maintained a below-replacement-level fertility rate, immigrant fertility was at a similar rate to the U.S. Baby Boom fertility of the 1950s...."

This uncontrolled immigration tidal wave that has hit America definitely caused the Economic Crisis today and stalling its dire consequences by borrowing our grandchildrens' money to keep a phony industrial base, "glue board home manufacturing" going has proven a complete disaster!

Without immediate depopulation in America [and in the world too] ASAP, we'll never get out of this mess, ever.

Posted by: Softwarengineer on October 31, 2008 03:31 PM

Mehlman makes an often ignored point. Which is that the cost of providng legal government programs for those who are amnestied, and their families who will inevitably follow, will far exceed any supposed "advantage" of low labor costs. That cheap lettuce you get will come with a big price tag on your tax bill.

The fact is that many farmers can move to more mechanized means of production. It's initially more expensive to farm hydroponically, but it pays off with increased yields and less labor needed.

Posted by: Leland on October 31, 2008 04:20 PM

Ira and "Software" are exactly right. I think Obama is committed to a " third world centric" re casting America a model for the whole world. He sees himself as a unique person who is one with many of the former colonial, non white people of the growing world. Pity that he doesn't love his "brothers" enough to want to save them individually from poverty, rather than collectively. The world has far to many people, especially in the hopelessly under-developed tropical and desert areas.Conservatives are part to blame by being against birth control, and Marxists need a big underclass to win the day, even while damning the world with so many unfed and starving. We have to roll back to a couple of billion folks on the planet or
we will screw up the whole ecological mix.

Posted by: Allan S. on October 31, 2008 06:16 PM

You are so right, Softwarengineer.

I'd also like to point out that the perceived decrease in the fertility rate of Americans has been a matter of choice, not biology. The “experts” speak of our dwindling population as though it is an unforeseen problem that needs to be resolved. Nothing could be further from the truth.

We Americans have chosen to control our population in order to preserve our quality of life and our environment, and in doing so are safeguarding both our nation and our children’s future.

With shameful disregard for the well being of the American population our greedy politician’s and corporate elite pigs have sold our nation and her people out. Because of their wanton self-serving actions, we now find ourselves mired in an immigration nightmare. We must wake up now!

Well said, Ira Mehlman.

The American people have been dismissed as a sea of toothless souls who should bail out elite recklessness, incompetence and greed and otherwise shut up. Now as Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Citibank and others melt down, we know the truth: these same elites used every tactic and tool at their disposal to enforce ultimately self-destructive policies.

Posted by: Concerned Citizen on November 3, 2008 02:50 PM

Aside from Mr. Mehlmans admirable analysis, the more "honest" financial reporters have stated that not only sub prime mortgages to illegal aliens caused the present fiasco, but also sub-prime loans on expensive cars that were given to sub-prime mortagage homeowners. In other words it has been thievery on several levels and the Wall Street criminals are having us pay to bail out THEIR GREEDY GAMBLING. WHERE IS CONGRESS, THE SENATE, BUT MOST OF ALL THE AMERICAN PUBLIC, WHICH SHOULD BE PROTESTING IN THE STREETS BY THE MILLIONS.

Follow-up: Agriprocessors Exec Arrested Over Illegal Hiring

"Federal agents Thursday arrested a former senior executive of a large kosher meatpacking plant on charges that he employed illegal immigrants for commercial gain and helped them secure fake documents, a sign of stepped up enforcement against employers who use illegal labor. Agents for Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Sholom Rubashkin, who headed the Agriprocessors Inc. plant in Postville, Iowa, on various criminal immigration and fraudulent-identity charges outlined in a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids," the Wall Street Journal reported.

Pre-Election Spin Blames McCain Loss on Immigration

"As the Hispanic population continues to increase, the Hispanic Christian community has become a significant player in political campaigns, at least that is what Senator Barack Obama had in mind. Dispelling notions that the senator from Chicago would have trouble pulling in the Hispanic vote, which strongly supported Senator Hillary Clinton during the Democratic primary, the Obama campaign launched an aggressive operation to court the Hispanic Christian vote in an effort to capitalize on the success that President Bush received during his 2000 and 2004 elections," EGP News writes. "Randy Carrillo, assistant pastor of Plaza United Methodist Church on Olvera Street in downtown Los Angeles and Chairman of the Church of Los Angeles-Northeast Coalition, said it is impossible to categorize Hispanic voters. 'I know people who want to vote yes on Proposition 8 [which would prohibit gay marriage] and then vote for Obama,' he said."

I still think (and I have stated it here before) that the immigration issue would make or break the election winner/loser.

John McCain and Barak Obama both have views that share the amnesty program.

Chuck Baldwin (my write-in candidate) wants to close the borders - period!

If McCain wanted to really win this election he would get off this economic platform and get on the illegal immigration platform and make a stand. The majority of LEGAL voters in this country want a stand AGAINST illegal immigration and would like to see their tax money go for valid programs for legal U.S. Citizens and not illegal third world scum who are taking American jobs!

Posted by: Sick 'n Tired on October 31, 2008 12:20 PM

This article is a little disengenuous. It refers to "the success that Bush received during his 2000 and 2004 elections." Whatever the "Christian Hispanic vote" in those years, the fact is that Bush's percentage of the Hispanic vote in 2000 was 35 %. Immigration was not an issue in that year or in 2004.

Hispanics are going to vote for Democrats because that party is going to side with them on economic issues. I do not think that the interests of the country are served by a never ending race to out-pander the other side. One promise is one-upped by the other side in a continual game. Which is why we can't have amnesty, because that group will become the target of even more promises. Waiting list to bring all your relatives here? I can just hear candidates saying "I am for family reunification". [even if another 50 million poor people come here.]

If speaking the truth and refusing to redefine amnesty as "comprehensive reform" and illegal aliens as "undocumented immigrants" is somehow offensive, then we are censoring ourselves.

And truthfully, Hillary reversed herself on the subject of drivers licenses for illegals, coming out against them after initially waffling on the issue. She still got the majority of Hispanic votes after she did that.

Posted by: Leland on October 31, 2008 12:34 PM

MY LATINA FRIEND IS VOTING MCCAIN

She was a strong Hillary supporter, but no way would she vote for Obama.

You can't put all Hispanics in Obama's camp, many don't like his old anti-American church and the fact that most the media refuses to analyze him fairly on a flat table with McCain.

How did the Lefties in this country become so blind and out of touch?
McCain is simply a war mongering leftist (under the cover of the GOP) and some (not all) Conservatives can see right through him and WILL NOT CAST A VOTE for this open borders NWO stooge. I still wonder why the GOP picked McCain to run: he represents the most unsavory part of the GOP.
IMO, ANYONE who voted for the Banker Bailout& amnesty does not belong in the White House, they belong in JAIL. WE NEED A THIRD PARTY NOW!

Posted by: Sandman on November 3, 2008 10:18 AM

Steve Sailor has pointed out and totally refuted the idea that the hispanic vote is that crucial to this election. This is one of the biggest scams going. If McCain loses it is because he didn't get the votes of Reagan Democrats, the Hillary Votes, and most of all the anti- illegal immigration voters. The Hispanic vote, FOR NOW, is simply not that great a factor, accounting for about 8 percent. PERIOD!
McCain has been running one of the stupidist campaigns in U.S. election history. He is a let down and disgrace to his running mate Mrs. Palin, who would probably beat Obama, hands down, if she was allowed to run.

Hazleton Lawyers Make Their Case in Appeals Hearing

"Attorneys argued whether a Hazleton law would create a patchwork of immigration policies or supplement federal policy in a way allowed by Congress during an extended hearing on Thursday before the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals. The three-judge panel normally limits arguments to 15 minutes, but allowed the hearing to proceed for two hours," the Scranton Times writes. "Whether Congress carved out the exclusive right to regulate immigration and pre-empted states and cities from any role was a major argument. The parties also discussed whether the Hazleton ordinance provides due process for challenging how it is enforced. And they argued whether the people in the case, including four plaintiffs allowed to remain unnamed because they didn’t know if they had the proper immigration status, had standing to sue the city."

All the groups like La Raza cry a river over local efforts to control immigration. Of course, those local efforts would not be necessary if La Raza and their cohorts would not be fighting every national effort to control illegal immigration and things like ID fraud. When you have a Hispanic Congressman comparing immigration agents to the "Gestapo", the discourse gets pretty tainted.

The fact is that most of the "comprehensive reform" proponents only give lip service to enforcement. Just like in 1986 and the "one time" amnesty of that year. It wasn't groups like FAIR who went back on their word, but the groups like La Raza. That's why we can't have an amnesty, because all these same people and groups will lie through their teeth again about all the supposed restrictions on it. Once it's passed, they will immediately begin lobbying to remove those restrictions and conditions, with tales of woe about all those illegals who are inconvenienced. The fact that they are "separated from their families" by their own illegal crossing of the border won't be mentioned.

Nor will these hypocrites Like La Raza ever say a word about the efforts Mexico takes to keep illegals on their southern border out. Including Mexican troops on their border and jailing of repeat offenders.

"A kosher meatpacking plant that was the site of one of the nation's largest immigration raids was fined nearly $10 million by the state Wednesday over accusations that it violated state labor laws. Iowa Labor Commissioner Dave Neil assessed the civil penalties against Agriprocessors in Postville for what he called repeated violations of Iowa's wage laws from January 2006 to June 2008," the AP reports. The city of Mesa, Arizona is now saying they will take a more agressive approach in the contractors they use to provide city services after Sheriff Joe Arpaio (way to go, Joe!) made a 2 am raid on the library and arrested many illegals.

American Apparel Co. Backs Amnesty With PR Effort

"While immigration is almost a non-issue in the U.S. presidential campaign, American Apparel, the biggest garment manufacturer in the country, is doing its best to keep the debate alive, saying legalizing foreign workers is good for business. Amid the whirr of sewing machines and clatter of cloth-laden carts, workers sport T-shirts that display their job functions in both Spanish and English, and telephone calls to family in Mexico are free," Reuters writes. "Chief Executive Dov Charney, a Canadian immigrant who displays his first alien resident card in the lunch room, did not respond to requests for an interview. But employees proudly cite his pro-immigrant policies -- $13 average hourly wages, $5 above California's minimum; stock in the company; subsidized health care, bus passes and meals; free English classes; and shuttering the factory during past protest marches." I would pose some very simple, straightforward questions here:

1. What is the good of keeping businesses in America who refuse to employ Americans, but choose instead to bring in foreigners to take our jobs, effectively locking us out of our birthright?

2. Once this country is overwhelmingly populated by foreigners, does it continue to identify itself as America?

3. Who, other than the greedy robber baron employers who drain the well but put nothing back, benefits from these atrocities?

These are rhetorical questions, but you get the point.

I may be stepping on a land mine or two here, but I think it is more important now than ever to take some drastic measures:

1. Do not spend so much as one dime that isn't absolutely necessary.

2. Write, call, fax your representatives as often as possible.

3. Under no circumstances vote for either of these two pathetic excuses for presidential candidates.

One of the many tasks that I have as a tax consultant is to assist my clients who have experienced ID Theft. Of course, there is credit fraud, but what about the tax difficulties 1,500,000 victims have in dealing with the IRS and the different state revenue department?
I have individuals who get IRS bills of $10,000 or more; their wages are garnished; the IRS has registered liens at the County Recorders offices; and they never get their tax refunds; they are turned down for employment because the prospective employer's insurance agent tells them that individuals with recorded liens are a security risk.
How did my clients and millions of others get in this mess?
Their SS Numbers are compromised. One client has "worked" in over 30 companies according to the the IRS and SSA [ID theft].
I've written the IRS the FTC asking them to investigate on behalf of the victims. Their answer? "You are guilty until you can prove you didn't work in the 30 companies." At this moment the IRS and the SSA know where the culprits work, but refuse to even send a letter to the employers.
The mismatched SSN/Names letters are generally thrown in the trash anyway.

Fugitive Teams Arrest Scores of Illegal Immigrants in NJ

"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced today its four New Jersey Fugitive Operations Teams arrested a total of 145 fugitive aliens during a nearly two-week long operation that began October 14 and concluded yesterday. In New Jersey, of the 145 fugitives arrested, 65 had criminal records. During the operation, an additional 44 immigration violators were arrested, 22 of whom had criminal histories. The non-fugitive immigration violators arrested during this operation have been charged with immigration violations, placed in removal proceedings and will appear before an independent immigration judge from the Department of Justice," Border Fire Report writes. "Criminal histories of the aliens arrested by the Fugitive Operations Teams in New Jersey during this operation included convictions for sexual assault, assault, driving under the influence, and various drug convictions including possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and criminal possession of marijuana."

It is so tragic what has happened to America. Should illegal immigration be illegal?

Is it alright that the so called Republican running for President is an amnesty fanatic?

Illegals do jobs Americans don't do but Americans support them with food stamps, anchor babies, sub-prime mortgages, medical care, etc. etc. that most Americans don't get.

Should illegal aliens get to vote.

These questions and many other things are some of the PATHOLOGIES THAT HAVE INFECTED THIS NATION AND ARE DECAYING IT FROM THE INSIDE.

ITS RACIST TO TREAT ALL ETHNIC GROUPS THE SAME IN AMERICA IS THE EXCUSE

That's why a million fines go out to sacrificial lamb Middle Class for things like marijuana, but immigration is mostly ethnic group, so the Middle Class laws don't apply to much of this group of criminals.

Mesa AZ Promises Contractor Review

"Mesa will re-evaluate its relationships with contractors to avoid immigration-related problems like those that led to a sheriff's raid on city buildings this month, Mayor Scott Smith said Tuesday. His comments came in the wake of an Oct. 16 raid on the Mesa City Plaza and main library targeting employees of a janitorial firm suspected of using fraudulent identities to hide their immigration status. Deputies also searched a city security office," the Arizona Republic reports. "When a Mesa police lieutenant was tipped off that illegal immigrants might be working in city buildings under fraudulent IDs, Mesa chose to handle the matter administratively rather than as a criminal issue, Smith said. City officials met with the contractor last spring and were assured the company was obeying the law."

Just yesterday in Lost Angeles, THE CITY COUNCIL, shined on the citizens again, by refusing to act on special order forty, which protects the most dangerous illegal alien gangsters. The City council also, allowed two-hundered and eleven rape cases to expire through the statute of limitations. Under Jack Weiss, the head of the safety board, Angelenos are NOT SAFE. Candidates Views on Immigration Change During Last Push for Votes?

"On the stump, Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain rarely talk about immigration, and it was never raised in their three debates," notes the New York Times. "Mr. Obama, the Democratic nominee, has hardened his tone on how to deal with illegal immigrants, while Mr. McCain, the Republican nominee, has made immigration enforcement a priority, a position in line with the Bush administration’s. Both candidates are responding to the anger many Americans feel about uncontrolled illegal immigration, including working-class voters whom Mr. McCain and Mr. Obama are trying to attract in the final days of the campaign."

Maverick should support the platform of his own party. How's that working out for you now, John? Not working out very well for America either. Well, we entered the 21st century and in this morning's newspaper here in ground zero of the illegal invasion of Phoenix, Arizona there was a story about a police officer laying dead in the street- the victim of a drunk driving third world illegal alien rodent. After killing the police officer the illegal got out of his car and urinated on the street- oh, by the way the illegal had several identity cards on him. That shining city on the hill called America in the 21st century has become a third world open sewer for many non-elite Americans. We don't dream anymore of scientific wonders- we now only pray we can survive another day.

Houston Sheriffs Test New Fingerprint Check

"The Harris County Sheriff's Office is leading a test of an automated fingerprint check system that allows jailers to simultaneously review suspects' immigration and criminal histories, thereby helping to identify and remove non-U.S. citizens convicted of crimes. The new program links the FBI's database with the Department of Homeland Security's database, known as IDENT (the Automated Biometric Identification System), officials said Monday. All inmates will be run against the database," the Houston Chronicle reports. "The Sheriff's Office was selected to lead the pilot program in part because Houston has 'one of the largest criminal alien populations in the United States,' said Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Gregory Palmore, the Houston Chronicle reported in its online edition Monday."

We should be tickled pink to pay for prisons so American organised crime can get richer.

It can check a fingerprints against various databases almost instantly. This means that within a coupl of years every cop in America can check someone's identity regardless weather or not the have a San Francisco ID card. Just thought I would share the good news.

Ruben Navarrette: GOP Takes the Blame for Democrats Failure on Amnesty

"McCain is poised to have his worst showing ever with Latino voters, a constituency with which he has done extremely well in the past thanks to his personal relationships, war hero status, moderate positions and independent streak. In his 1998 Senate re-election in Arizona, McCain got 65% of the Hispanic vote. In 2004, it was 70%. But this year, on a national level, it's another story," says Ruben Navarrette Jr..

"Senate Democrats also had a hand in killing immigration reform in 2007 by trying to torpedo GOP support for a bipartisan compromise. House Democrats, under orders from Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., kept the controversial issue off the legislative agenda in 2008. Why? Organized labor. Democrats' slavish adherence to unions required that they derail any proposal that includes guest workers, as any bill with a chance to win Republican support would have to do."

This story should be titled "US citizens get CREDIT for stopping amnesty". Why is there "blame" for something good happening? I never read a headline like "Brett Farve takes blame for throwing three touchdowns against the Vikings".

Posted by: Dave A on October 28, 2008 06:08 PM

If Ruben Navarette really wants to assign blame for these last several failed amnesties he need look no further than the 30 to 50 million illegal immigrants who, in response to the mercy America showed the 3 million illegal immigrants who came before them, chose to blatantly violate our immigration laws with the expectation that they too, will be forgiven. They are presumptuous as hell!

Three million were graciously pardoned in 1986 for their willful disregard of our immigration law, and thirty million more followed in their footsteps.

We understand that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. We are standing up and shouting together in unison “NEVER AGAIN.”

Posted by: melena29 on October 29, 2008 11:39 AM

This is so typical of Navarrette's backward rhetoric. Millions of "undocumented immigrants" blame others for their "failure to get a green card".

Guess what? They're not entitled to anything, because they crossed the border illegally. And apparently, not wanting to give them an amnesty is one of the "sins" we're commiting.

How do you know guys like Navarratte are lying? Besides his lips moving, he uses the old "undocumented" chestnut. Oh, my papers? They're here somewhere, just can't seem to find them.

The fact is that Hispanics are going to vote for Democrats on social issues. It's why California is mainly a Democratic state.

Gates Defends LA Special Order 40, Despite Murders

"Tanned, toned and looking as if he's aged little in the 16 years since he left office, former LAPD Chief Daryl F. Gates returned to City Hall on Monday to wade into a contentious debate over police enforcement and illegal immigrants. Gates helped craft Special Order 40, the 1979 measure that limits when officers can inquire about the immigration status of crime victims and suspects," the LA Times reports. "Special Order 40 became the subject of intense debate earlier this year after the slaying of high school football player Jamiel Shaw II. Shaw was allegedly gunned down by a reputed gang member who was in the country illegally. Pedro Espinoza, who awaits trial on a murder charge, was released from Los Angeles County Jail the day before the killing."

First and foremost they need to just toss out Special Order 40 and follow ALL the laws, local, state and federal like they are supposed to do. They can't pick and choose which laws they are going to uphold. As law enforcement officers they are there to "serve and protect" the citizens not to "pick and choose" those laws easiest to uphold.

It is all a crock of BS and this family should sue the LAPD for failure to uphold their sworn duty.

Sections of the California Code pertaining to the exercising of the authority of law enforcement officers is quite explicit:

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/waisgate?WAISdocID=2095657600+0+0+0&WAISaction=retrieve

All of the sections pertaining to the obligation of law enforcement to uphold the law:

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/calawquery?codesection=pen&codebody=failure+to+uphold+the+law&hits=20

I think it is a crime for law enforcement to turn the blind eye to obvious crime areas because they will be "singled out" because of being too "politically correct". BS

Jorge Castaneda: We Need More Trade Agreements Like NAFTA

"Although many Americans believe immigration is a domestic issue that should be excluded from talks with other governments, this is not a view held by other nations or by the United States. Indeed, the U.S. negotiated its first immigration deal in 1907, maintained for more than two decades by a controversial treaty with Mexico covering immigration, and has kept up immigration talks and deals even with Fidel Castro since the early 1960s," says former Mexican foreign minister Jorge Castaneda. American trade agreements have been faulted for limiting themselves to trade. The response has always been: the U.S. is not Europe, nor is it in the business of nation-building or reconstruction. But this is exactly what it did, successfully, with the post-1945 Marshall Plan and, unsuccessfully, with Iraq and Afghanistan today. [ . . . ] Improving Mexican and Central American infrastructure, education and rule of law, or improving Colombian and Peruvian drug-enforcement efforts and respect for labor laws and human rights, are all in America's interest, and free trade agreements can help rather than harm such efforts."

Posted by: American Me on October 27, 2008 01:37 PM

It's time we sat down with the leaders of Canada and Mexico and renegotiated our economic and migration relationships. For that to work, the process will need to take full and careful account of the needs of the American people; during the NAFTA negotiations, it was actually the needs of ideology and large corporate interests that held sway.

That said, I agree with Jorge Castaneda in principle, and when I speak to most people outside hard-core immigration reform circles, that's the general sentiment I hear. Now the question is whether we can ever find the leadership to bring such complex, multi-party negotiations to a stable and satisfactory conclusion.

(Improving Mexican and Central American infrastructure, education and rule of law, or improving Colombian and Peruvian drug-enforcement efforts and respect for labor laws and human rights, are all in America's interest, and free trade agreements can help rather than harm such efforts.")

They beat the drum for rule of law, yet have no qualms about violating ours.
They demand respect for labor laws, yet they continually disregard ours.
They cry for human rights, yet they are among the most ferocious of abusers.
They campaign to open our borders, yet refuse to open their own to the rest of the world.
They enforce their own immigration laws to the fullest possible extent, but balk when we attempt to enforce ours.
They talk of these things as though they are in America’s best interest, yet only America is being asked to make a monumental sacrifice, with nothing to be gained.

They talk of free trade, but let’s remember that the operative word here is trade. You must have something comparable to that which you plan to “trade” your partner for. As far as I can see they nothing have to offer that comes even remotely close to what they intend to gain.

The free trade agreements for which they advocate serve only to destroy this nation, and with it, the last bastion of hope for the rest of the world; and once the United States of America becomes a third world disaster there is no way out of hell for any of us.

They are hypocrites, all of them.

Perhaps they take us for fools for being so complacent for so long; after all, we have been, haven’t we? NO MORE! Their heyday is over. They have inadvertently awakened the sleeping giant which is the American people. And we’re just warming up, so watch out!

I support comprehensive immigration reform. I usually tangle with most Stein Report readers/commentators, but;

This is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS!

Where do FOREIGN leaders get off meddling in US immigration affairs?

As an American of Mexican ancestry, I can imagine the reaction Mexico would have if the US tried to dictate THEIR immigration policy!

Maybe if the Mexican elite, to which Castanda belongs, ceased sacking the country for a while, there would be the funds required for infrastructure!

Castaneda calls for "law and order" ring hollow to those of us who KNOW that Mexican criminal syndicates and the Mexico government are one and the same! To be sure, they have rivalries among themselves, but the reality is that the so called drug cartels, the cops, and government functionaries are one and the same in Mexico!

Mexico's Presidential election in 2006 was won by Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. Electoral fraud was used to hand the election, and Presidency, over to Felipe Calderon--with Jorge Castaneda lending rhetorical support as a columnist with "refroma", a leading Mexico daily.

Jorge Castaneda, though the former Mexico foreign minister, actually spends the majority of his time in the New York area. That's because he is a professor at New York University.

So, here is his email address, if this interference in the affairs of OUR country make you as livid as it does me, send professor Castaneda an e-mail and let him know!

A few months back, I heard an interview with the President of Costa Rica and he said almost the same thing as Castaneda regarding the idea that the U.S. should begin to pump billions into their economy, just like the Marshall Plan of the 40's. This seems like an odd request considering the fact that the U.S. is now over 10 TRILLION Dollars in debt. These Latin American "intellectuals" seem to want the U.S. to underwrite an improved education system for every country north of Panama, relax immigration laws AND expand on NAFTA.
I would write more but Melena29 pretty much said it all...The sad part is that we actually have elected officials in high places that think like Castaneda and would gladly vote for measures to fund his plan.

Juan McAmnesty, who’s a free trader, contends that lowering corporate taxes would keep jobs from being offshored. That’s pure BS, because the labor costs are so much lower in third world countries that you even if you lowered the taxes to zero, the savings still wouldn’t come close to the difference in labor costs.

Obamnesty isn’t any better on this either. He claims that ending offshore tax breaks would stop or reduce the number of jobs being offshored. Once again, the difference in labor costs is so great that the increase in taxes wouldn’t provide an incentive to keep jobs here.

NAFTA, CAFTA, and the trade agreement with China all need to be canceled, along with our membership in the WTO. McAmnesty and Obamnesty are both so bad on these topics that I’m voting for Chuck Baldwin. I just can't be a part of the two party sellout any longer.

Hazleton Case Hearing This Week

"A federal appeal for a 2006 case that put Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta in the spotlight will be held five days before he faces U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski in their race for Congress. Two years ago, Barletta gained national attention by supporting Hazleton’s Illegal Immigration Relief Act. The law never took effect, and a federal judge in Scranton overturned it last summer. The U.S. Circuit Court in Philadelphia plans to hear an appeal in the case at 1:30 p.m. Thursday," the Standard Speaker writes. "During the appeal, three judges selected by computer will listen to arguments and ask questions of attorneys representing the city and the law’s opponents, led by the American Civil Liberties Union. Each side will have 30 minutes to present a case, and the judges aren’t expected to decide the appeal for months. Still, the hearing might revive an issue that initially attracted voters to Barletta."

Obama Uses Immigration Issue in New Mexico

"Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama, working to win over Latino voters in New Mexico, attacked Republican rival John McCain's record and argued that his rival can't be trusted to overhaul U.S. immigration laws," Bloomberg reports. "'Senator McCain used to buck his party by fighting for immigration reform and I admired him for it,' Obama said last night at a rally in Albuquerque. 'But when he was running for his party's nomination, he changed his tune. How can you trust him to make sure we finally solve this problem instead of using it as a wedge issue?'"

We all know the true message of Obama's campaign and that is "America needs an ethnic, religious, language, and class cleansing." He is preaching that there will be some sort of great liberation day for the world when white, middle-class, christian, English-speaking Americans are purged from the earth. Fellow Americans we have just lived (barely) through the worst presidential administration in our nation's great history and this has set the stage for the final curtain to come down. Remember the old Twilight Zone episode "To Serve Man". The aliens came to earth to solve our problems- they did, but it was a clever guise. The "To Serve Man" book finally was translated, but it was too late for many people. To Serve Man was a cookbook and mankind was the main course. People. our nation is about to be served up on a platter to the masses who inhabit the third world.

Chertoff: We've Made Real Progress Against Illegal Immigration

From DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff's State of the Border address. "As you know, over the last year we have provided State of Immigration addresses to the American people highlighting our efforts to secure our border, enforce our national immigration laws, and improve temporary worker programs, and legal migration. This is the fourth address and it comes at the close of the fiscal year that ended on September 20, 2008. It gives us an opportunity, at this point, to step back and assess our progress over the last past year using a variety of different measurements and also to look back over five years since the department was created in 2003."

Lower numbers of invaders crossing the border each year may only indicate the reality that the U.S. Job Market is totally drying up, esp. in Construction. The fence is still on the drawing board and most of it will be of the Virtual sort anyway.
The actions of the DHS regarding securing the border only indicate that keeping out illegals, drugs and crime is really not part of their pay grade. I wonder how bad Obama will treat the Border?

Bonnie Erbe: It's Wrong for the Presidential Candidates to Ignore Immigration

"Sometimes news stories make me spiral off into outer space. The premise of the story noted below is that the presidential candidates should 'talk to' or go out of their way to woo the support of illegal immigrants or, excuse me, undocumented workers. [. . . ] Should McCain and Barack Obama go out of their way to “talk” to illegal immigrants? Not in the sense implied by the Newsday piece," says Bonnie Erbe. "Here's my suggestion. If they want to talk to illegal immigrants, the first words out of their mouths should be: 'Please return to the country where you reside legally, get in line for a legal visa to the United States, and return legally, not illegally.' But then, that wouldn’t be very PC, would it?"

Considering that the U.S. administrations from Reagan to Bush 2, have planned and facilitated the occupation of 20-30 million!! illegal foreign nationals to come and set up residence in this nation, yeah, Bonnie, I would think that it's "WRONG" that neither McCain or Obama are allowed to pretend that this hasn't happened. That it isn't even an issue. We can see from the sub-prime mortgage disaster and the outright criminal ignoring of immigration law since Reagans first huge amnesty, THAT IT WAS ALL PLANNED ON THE AMERICAN SUCKER CITIZENS.

Posted by: Bobby on October 27, 2008 04:47 PM

I don't agree that they should return to their countries to "do it right." I don't think anyone who has broken into our country should ever be allowed to apply to come in legally. In fact, we need a moratorium on ALL immigration until the last legal immigrants are assimilated. I vote by mail in vote and I am sickened to see it in Spanish along with English. Why should anyone who doesn't speak English get to cast a vote? Wait until you learn the language and understand the voting process before you cast a vote in an English speaking country. No more government documents in any language except English.

Court Rules Challenge to SF Sanctuary Policy can Proceed

"A state appeals court reinstated a taxpayer lawsuit on Wednesday that accuses San Francisco officials of violating a state law that requires police who make drug arrests to notify federal authorities if a criminal suspect doesn't appear to be a U.S. citizen. A Superior Court judge dismissed the suit last year, saying the California law on which it was based was an invalid attempt by the state to regulate immigration. The First District Court of Appeal disagreed Wednesday and said the law, though it might affect immigration, is based on the state's legal authority to combat drug trafficking," the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Posted by: ALOHA on October 25, 2008 05:37 PM

The appeals court got it exactly correct, 3-0. The state law is doing nothing to "regulate immigration". It's based on removing drug dealers from the community.

Posted by: Leland on October 26, 2008 08:03 PM

We were told in 1994 that Prop 187 was unconstitutional because only the federal government can enforce immigration. Then why is it that cities can like San Fransico make these insane sancuaryn laws. How many more murdurs will we see like the triple murdur in San Fransico or the young high school football player in Los Angeles?

Palin in Favor of "Comprehensive" Reform?

"In a Spanish television network interview aired Oct. 21 on Univision's "Aqui y Ahora" (Right Here and Now), reporter Jorge Ramos asked Palin if she thinks all illegal aliens should be deported. 'There is no way that in the U.S. we would round up every illegal immigrant,' she replied. 'There are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants – not only economically is that just an impossibility, but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration,'" Worldnetdaily reports.

She's McCain's choice...What would you expect her to say? She comes from a much more conservative world view than McCain, and would probably define the "Comprehensive" agenda somewhat differently, if allow to speak freely. I wrote all kinds of angry things aboutMcCain over the past few years, related to Amnesty.Frankly I see a strong linkage between the financialcollapse, and a building "neo-drepression era" andthe "invasion" of the 20 million illegals. Still. McCain/Palin are more likely to secure the borders and at leastdeport a few million late-comers and criminals. OBAMA is totally crazy, ignorant, and unreasonable on the issue, with opinions that rival those of HUGO CHAVEZ on the question!

Without E-Verify on all American companies 12M is just a wild eyed guess.

Posted by: Softwarengineer on October 24, 2008 01:26 PM

Here is the way I see it. We live with McCain for 4 years and by then Palin will earn her wings and run for President which would leave us with a true conservative in office for the following eight years who won't be for big business but for the American People. This is exactly why Palin excites the Republican base so much.

Do you really believe she will disagree publicly with McCain on this issue when they are fighting hard to win the election. McCain can promise anything he wants to Illegal Aliens but without a filler buster proof congress in his pocket it will never happen. We just need to make sure we keep enough true conservative republicans in congress.

What political candidate, besides Ralph Nader, has a political bumper sticker stating, "Defend Our Constitution - We the People"?

I know nadda. I have my Nader Constitution bumper sticker proudly displayed on my car, I notice almost no Obama or McCain bumper stickers, compared to 2000 and 2004's elections. Illegal Immigration Still a Hot Button Issue in Arizona

"While some of Arizona's key political races this year are dominated by illegal immigration, the issue has virtually disappeared from the presidential campaigns and debates. Republican Sen. John McCain, who championed a comprehensive immigration overhaul bill three years ago, has barely addressed the topic even though it remains a hot-button controversy in his home state. Democratic Sen. Barack Obama, who also supports an overhaul, has been nearly as mum," USA Today reports. "By contrast, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio seeks re-election in the Phoenix metro area based largely on his effort to round up and deport illegal immigrants -- an enforcement program condemned by Hispanic leaders and Mayor Phil Gordon as "racial profiling." Arpaio is the top law officer in a county that, at 9,200 square miles, is bigger than New Jersey, and has a larger population —3.8 million — than half of the states."

The seeds from decades of illegal immigration in the state of Arizona have been sown. Even if total enforcement of the border would take place (that would be great) the seeds that have been planted have grown into trees and the trees have become forests- these forests are the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants who have come here and have established third world colonies of corruption and chaos. The politicians could have ended the problem when the illegal immigrants were still seeds, instead by non enforcement they watered and nurtured the seeds and thus the seeds became the forests we have now. Thanks to the politicians and other traitors who enriched themselves at the expense of their fellow citizens we now have a full blown catastrophe that will never fully go away.

Future Day Laborer,

I understand your sense of hopelessness; however, I couldn't disagree more.

Keep in mind that just like a boil that has been festering for years, it must first be lanced and the infection drained before the healing can begin. We are now in the process of draining, and yes, it is ugly. We are finally treating it, and I believe with consistent attention and the proper antibiotic (attrition through enforcement), we will succeed in eradicating the vile disease that has been poisoning our nation.

So let’s all remain diligent, and make sure the dressing is changed in a timely manner, shall we?

Any open border or pro-illegal buffoons who have a problem with my analogy can lodge that complaint where the sun doesn’t shine!
