Immigration Marchers Return With Same Old Amnesty Message

"Immigration activists and civil rights leaders are gearing up for rallies and marches in cities across the nation, hoping to revive the stagnant immigration debate in time for the presidential election. Activists predict turnout for the more than 200 events planned Thursday from Seattle to Miami will be far less than in years past. But they say efforts demanding comprehensive immigration legislation _ including pathways to citizenship for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the U.S. _ have extended beyond the streets," the AP reports. "With no single piece of legislation to rally around in 2007, numbers shrank and the message branched off. Marchers demanded an end to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids, respect for the undocumented and worker unity, among other things. Efforts in Los Angeles quickly went sour when police cleared MacArthur Park by whacking protesters and journalists with batons and firing "non-lethal" projectiles."

And will our spineless leaders speak out against illegal immigration or stand side by side w/ them and proclaim they have the same rights as citizens and those who have followed every rule and assimilated into our society?

Until we take away the carrots that continue to entice illegals into this country, and we hold ALL employers accountable w/ heavy fines and jail time for exploitation, nothing will really change. But for people like me, who helped stop the two fatally flawed pseudo-amnesties, we will never stop fighting to end it and not simply hand these people rights and privileges that they haven't ever earned!

I get upset when I see and hear the Illegal alien supporters spreading lies and BS to attempt to make their points, but why not take their tactics and do the same thing. Lets all start calling in to newspapers and radio and TV stations and web sites advising them that "Leaves and off days are being canceled" and government agents are being grouped to start stopping marchers and checking IDs and papers to remove and quick deport all illegal aliens at the demonstrations. If we did any kind of a job we could scare off a large number of illegals. What do you think?

Posted by: jmac on April 30, 2008 10:32 AM

It seems the only group of people not included in these demonstrations that are intended to influence American law and legislation are Americans themselves. Hello!!

What all citizens need to do tomorrow !!!

Call ICE and report any of the illegal alien marches occurring in your towns!

To report any suspicious activity please call 1-866-347-2423.

Then, report fraudulent activities to the GAO if they fail to do their jobs...they are wasting your money...

That`s just politicians same old propaganda. They`re out of the shadows everyday, protesting in our streets, stealing jobs, thumbing their noses at our laws, and demanding the same old amnesty, that will never happen.

THIS IS NOT BY ANY MEANS A CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUE. THESE PEOPLE ARE IN THIS COUNTRY ILLEGALLY AND THEY JUST DON'T SEEM TO GET THE MESSAGE THAT THEY ARE ON U.S. SOIL UNINVITED. ALL OF THEIR MARCHES SHOULD TAKE PLACE IN THEIR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN. THEY SHOULD BE MAKING DEMANDS OF THEIR OWN GOVERNMENT AND NOT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! THEY NEED TO BE EDUCATED ON THE CIVIL RIGHTS ERA AND STOP USING AND TRYING TO TAKE AWAY THE LEGACY OF US, THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN CITIZENS FOR WHO THE 14TH AMENDMENT WAS MEANT FOR. AND THE TERM CIVIL RIGHTS IS ALSO A PART OF OUR LEGACY AND NOT THEIRS. AS UNINVITED GUEST IN THIS COUNTRY, THEY HAVE NO RIGHTS. CIVIL OR OTHERWISE. JUST ASK YOURSELF THIS ONE QUESTION, WHAT KIND OF RIGHTS DO WE THE PEOPLE HAVE IN MEXICO? NONE! SO WHY SHOULD THEY HAVE ANY RIGHTS HERE? OUR GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO DO THE RIGHT THING BY THOSE WHO EMPLOY THEM,WE THE PEOPLE. AND AT THE SAME TIME THEY NEED TO TELL CALDERON TO STAY OUT OF OUR GOVERNMENTS BUSINESS AND TO STOP COMING HERE URGING HIS COUNTRYMEN AND WOMEN TO DEMAND RIGHTS FROM A COUNTRY IN WHICH THEY ARE IN ILLEGALLY.

One of the proofs that the Bush Administration and Chertoff have no intentions of stopping illegal immigration, are these Marches. If they were serious, all they'd have to do is bring the buses, and deport the illegal aliens at the marches. Easy as picking off fish in a barrel. Fishing isn't in their plans however, but constant lying and snowing the citizenry is.

Posted by: Bobby on May 1, 2008 04:50 AM

We need to show more sympathy for these people.
* They travel miles in the heat.
* They risk their lives crossing a border.
* They don't get paid enough wages.
* They do jobs that others won't do or are afraid to do.
* They live in crowded conditions among a people who speak a different language.
* They rarely see their families, and they face adversity all day ~ every day.

I'm not talking about illegal Mexicans ~ I'm talking about our troops! Doesn't it seem strange that many Democrats and Republicans are willing to lavish all kinds of social benefits on illegals, but don't support our troops, and are even threatening to de-fund them?

Posted by: Sick 'n Tired on May 1, 2008 11:54 AM

How do you think these people have the right to live in this country? I am an international student. I pay a lot of tuition and they rip me off. I need a job, too. The law required us to get permission before we have the right to get a job. How can the government in this country just punish the persons who obey the law?

Posted by: unperson on May 1, 2008 02:25 PM

Flash forward to maybe as little time as a year from today- the marches we will see in the streets will be Americans, just regular non elite Americans like you and me- and you know what we may be marching for- enough food to feed our families, to putting a stop to being forcibly evicted from our homes as the encroaching depression has taken our jobs and ability to provide for our families. Americans wake up and face the bleak reality of what lies right before us. Our own government has sold us out- they have set in motion the collapse of a 21st century nation- once the greatest nation on earth. This country is now a hollow shell much like a stripped down shell of an automobile on concrete blocks. Fellow Americans we are really on our own- what is our plan for survival.

I am sick of it all! I am trying work, pay bills, finish school and finding ways to pay for higher gas, food, higher ed cost. As far as I am concerned this adminstration and those breaking the law can get a bus ticket out of the country! When will we start taking care of the citizens here that are facing some HUGE problems right now? If we were things would be different but they are not?

Posted by: Heather on May 1, 2008 04:14 PM

American now pay an average of 3,500 dollars per illegal alien in the United States of their taxes. At the same time we have to pay for our medical and other expenses, while they get theirs by order of the corrupt government, that should be using this money for Americans. The Senate also voted to give illegal aliens Social Security benefits, even if they have hardly worked here at all compared to Americans working for years to receive it. How dumb are those Americans who cannot get a handle on this stuff?

Posted by: Bobby on May 1, 2008 05:07 PM

As I was walking in front of the capitol building in Sacramento this afternoon, there was a meeger group of Latinos wearing T-shirts asking "WHAT WOULD ROSA PARKS DO?"

I think that's a stupid-ass question. Rosa Parks was fighting for civil rights. She was a United States Citizen - not a benefit-grabbing, weekend and late night ER visitor with a cold, job stealing illegal immigrant!

She was black - not a knowing and willfully illegal in the United States illegal immigrant.

She refused to give up her seat on a bus for a white man - she didn't force United States Citizens off their jobs because of low wages nor did she take a low-wage paying job "that an American 'wouldn't' do".

Give me a f'n break. There is no comparison to what illegal immigrants want and what Rosa Parks wanted.

They wanted "rights" for janitors - according to their signs.

They can have rights - the right to go back to their home country - the country they were flying the flag for (and it wasn't the U.S. Flag).

They have the right to go to the back of the line (which happens to be in their home country and not in this country.)

They can have all the rights they want - in their country but not this country. The United States Constitution does not apply to them since they are not United States Citizens.

Guatemalan President Lobbies for Amnesty During Bush Visit

"Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom, on his first visit to Washington since taking office in January, said yesterday that his country's discredited police and justice systems need to be "reordered and disciplined" and that Guatemalan immigrants who are in the United States illegally deserve the same temporary legal protections that have been granted other Central Americans," the Washington Post reports. "In a meeting with Washington Post editors and reporters, the soft-spoken Colom, a center-left politician who defeated a conservative former army general, said the problem of illegal immigration needs to be addressed "in a multilateral way" involving regional governments, rather than through arrests and deportations. Last year, he said, about 7,500 Guatemalans were deported from the United States."

Let's not address in a multilateral way but a UNILATERAL way and that is to take away the magnet that attracts them here, disallow benefits at taxpayer expense and force them to return to their home countries.

Thanks so much Mr. Colom for that little group of people trying to broaden their economic horizons known as MS-13!
Why would we want to deal with illegal alien immigration in a multilateral way, and only dealing with regional governments? This sounds like you would like to deal with a fragmented group rather than a solid front more inclined to tell you to, "get real"!
What the hell does, "great sacrifice", supposed to mean? The only sacrifice I see is, Americans loosing their jobs to these parasites! When 12-13% of any countries economy is based on stealing billions from the United States, they have lost any right to say or ask for anything!!

Just have your mama step across our border, produce YOU and you've got it. Want free education and medication? Okay. Want a job? Any greedy business will be glad to replace an American with you. AZ Gov. Napolitano Vetoes Enforcement Bill

"Gov. Janet Napolitano vetoed a measure Monday that would have required local law enforcement to work with federal authorities on immigration enforcement. Napolitano, a Democrat, had been urged to reject House Bill 2807 by Latino activists who feared the measure would lead to racial profiling and further alienate the Latino community. But Napolitano cited neither of those issues in vetoing the measure. Instead, she relied on fiscal concerns, noting a provision that would have required the state to pay for the training of local officers in immigration enforcement if federal funds were unavailable," the Arizona Republic reports. "The measure would have directed local police and county sheriffs to implement a program to address immigration violations."

I suggested impeaching sanctuary mayors for misuse of government funds for illegal marches. How about impeach all sanctuary state governors for clearly not enforcing our federal/state immigration laws?

Posted by: Softwarengineer on April 29, 2008 11:54 AM

Can you imagine if, say, drunk driving advocates got together to urge a Governor to veto a drunk driving bill? Would the press 'report' that they were concerned about sober drivers being profiled?

If this sounds silly, then think for a minute - EVERY,EVERY SINGLE TIME 'latino' activists advocate no immigration enforcement, the press includes this lie that they are concerned about 'legal' immigrants being 'profiled'. We are to believe that if legal immigrants are at risk of being asked their status, then we must therefore abandon all enforcement.

Well, lets apply this to drunk driving. Can we also assume that if sober drivers are at risk of being stopped and questioned about their blood alcohol level, then we must therefore abandon all enforcement?

Would the press 'report' such a concern? No? This is the same lying press that will 'report' on the May Day rallies.

Why don't the good legal citizens of Arizona take a shot at bouncing their Govenor out on her ear. If accomplished it would send a clear message to every other pro illegal govenor in this nation that they are responsible to the citizens of their state who elected them. It might also change a few presidential candidates attitudes also.

Posted by: Brian H. on April 29, 2008 01:29 PM

The Federal Government should withhold ALL federal funds from the State of Arizona since they are directly and willfully disobeying federal immigration laws by impeding federal authorities from actively doing their jobs. . . along with aiding and abetting criminal activity. Maybe the RICO ACT should be invoked.

McAmnesty will rely on Napolitano, Richardson, Perry and Schwarzenegger, the no-borders, chamber of commerce governors, to certify the border as secure before he opens the floodgates. Wow. That is so reassuring. And Chertoff is building a fence, somewhere, in his own mind.

One million asking for amnesty in 1986 resulted in 20 million making demands for it today. If the error is repeated, it will become 100 million the day after that. That next wave will demand nothing. They will take it. Americans will be the ones begging for amnesty.

Nothing this worthless female does surprises me anymore. Vote for a liberal and everyone is a victim except for US citizens, who will have to pay for these victims forever and ever--AMEN! It seems to me that one just has to look at what that entire politcal party wants to do, when they don't care about the citizens of this nation and want to continue to reward international criminals. They know what Americans want, as we continue to fight every amnesty that comes up, yet they refuse to listen to us. How does one vote over and over again for people who don't give a rip about this country, who want illegals here because they will be voters for Democrats and who don't seem to understand that the government doesn't have money unless it comes from taxes. Isn't this classical taxation without representation when what the majority of US citizens want is not listened to? Also, hispanic is not a race--it's an ethnic class and if one doesn't want to be profiled then leave my nation and go back to your own. Illegals have no honor in themselves, no integrity and no business being here marching in our streets demanding anything. We need them out of here and we need to follow the immigration laws that are on the books. Deportation of millions will occur, even if they do it themselves, if we administer the laws. Law enforcement agents, including the politiicans, who seem so at ease ignoring their sworn duties, make me sick and they also need to go. If they are too cowardly to do their jobs, there are certainly others who will. Illegals can march all they want, but I guess their memory is short lived as the last time they did this the backlash against them increased. It will increase again and the outrage will just make them cry victim yet again. Isn't being a liberal something--behave badly, then cry victim, behave even worse and cry victim, behave the same way yet again and cry victim. Boring beyond belief! I wonder why they don't want to move up the evolutionary food chain, go back to the country and "improve" things there.

Illegal Aliens Gearing Up for May Day Rallies

"Local Latino activists will travel to Los Angeles on Thursday to join a massive movement for immigrant rights. A caravan of Latino groups will leave the parking lot of Carousel Mall in San Bernardino at 11 a.m. and head to downtown Los Angeles to participate in an afternoon rally. Similar marches are being held in other parts of the country. Students and faculty from the Claremont Colleges are planning to travel separately to Los Angeles," the San Bernardino Sun reports. "Organizers of the May Day "Gran Marcha" expect to attract between 20,000 and 100,000 people, who will urge Congress and President Bush to enact comprehensive immigration reform. Protesters are also demanding legalization of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States and other measures to ensure their fair and humane treatment."

This is absolutely ludicrous!! Can American citizens march in any country to demand rights?? As they march, they should be placed on buses and driven back to Mexico. These are criminals, folks. They are causing our tax money to be spent on their healthcare, their education and their incarcerations to the tune of billions of dollars. Those who work here for employers who should be fined send their money back to Mexico, again to the tune of billions of dollars. Where is justice for American citizens and those who are LEGAL immigrants? Their answer to these DEMANDS should be an emphatic NO WAY!!!

Posted by: L on April 29, 2008 12:41 PM

The last I knew the only right criminal illegal immigrants have in this country is to leave before being arrested and deported. DHS and ICE should be all over these rallies making arrests but they won't for fear of upsetting the Status Quo in Washington. Maybe its time for the legal citizens of this country to make our own arrests and deportations. Then watch how fast they would have bus's and police to arrest us for protecting our country from criminal illegal immigrants and making our streets safer for our children.

"Latinos/Hispanics" and the groups that define themselves as such (LaRaza, etc.) are ethnic-supremacists. They are convinced that because of their DNA, they are entitled to special rights or some sort of "rights classification" that is due a specialized series of operations in the U.S.A. BASED UPON THEIR DNA.

That is the "classic" definition of an ethnic supremacy organization in the works, what it means to be such in application and process and use of our government to further "special" or extraneous considerations for and about an ethnicity and nothing else than ethnicity.

"Latino/Hispanic" is not a race, it's not even an ethnicity specificaly as such are defined. The races among the human species are: White, Negorid, Asian and Aborigine. So, "Hispanics/Latinos" claiming all this specialized attention and privilege due to their alleged "race" is nonsense, and I doubt that it is even credible enough to pass any trial process in any court of law, as to burden of proof (just try "proving" a distinct "race" privileged to specialized "rights" due to one having had an ancestor from Asia, Spain, the Caribbean and Central America at various times in one's ancestry).

IF this nonsense continues -- Hispanics/Latinos threaten at every opportunity and Season in the U.S. to do harms to someone and anyone (someone will suffer negative consequences if this charade of "rights" and specialized privileges is not supported, funded, publicized, otherwise granted ongoing indulgence despite it being an irrational AND an illigitimate one) -- then the entire consideration in our nation as to "rights" is just reduced to drivel.

There are "human rights" as to civilizations of human beings the world over -- what it means to be civilized and behave accordingly and what it means not to do either or both -- and then there are "civil rights" in the U.S. as a Constitutional (and therefore, a governmental and legitimate concern under the rule of law) THAT APPLY TO CITIZENS, TO ALL CITIZENS of the U.S. and not to only one "color" or another, but to all citizens.

The Civil Rights issue does not extend globally to all human beings simply because our Constitution does not do so -- it's not a document that rules the world, it's a defining document that establishes and addresses our nation and what it is and is not, and in that nation, as to ciitzens and everything else from the top on down.

But it does not extend to Mexico, to citizens of Mexico, it does not reach into Guatemala and declare an individual there as being endowed with "rights" in the U.S.A. parallel with citizens in the U.S.A.

So this entire "Hispanic/Latino" (people who define themselves by a very vague reference to their DNA, to ancestors and cultures mostly of the Central and South American nations -- it is a very rare thing that a citizen of Spain in Spain or Europe goes around claiming to be "Latino" or even "Hispanic") is A CULTURAL MANIPULATION OF TERMS and it is furthered and popularized becuuse the goals are to establish FALSE "RIGHTS" by exaggeration and falsification of our terms under the Constitution.

Our Civil Rights in this nation define what cannot be done to and about an individual (a citizen can't be denied housing, for example, because of race or awarded housing because of race - "race" being not a ticket to be evaluated for gain or denial, in other words). They don't, to my understanding, "award" "special goods and services" to people just because a great-great-great-grandfather from Spain married the descendant in Nicauragua of Asian immigrants from centuries earlier.

What Hispanic/Latino "rights" afficiondos seek is some sort of "I deserve or merit to receive a special circumstance because of my name, my ancestors, my SOCIAL STANDING OR PRIVILEGE." It's an antiquated form of "award" or demand for provision from the general taxpayers and nation just like the feudal system was in "Olde Europe": a son is due something just because of who is father was, and on and on, while those outside that "privilege" feudal system were denied the same receipt of whatever (goods, money, privilege, social standing, exemptions from penalties, etc.).

I've posed these confronting questions before on other sites and no one has yet (ever) come forth with any reasonable definition nor "excuse" as to why "Hispanic/Latino" afficiondos/affiliates (they define as such, are participants in this socio-political movement) are due anything, anything at all, that individual ciitzens of the U.S. are not already eligible for. In other words, where is the specialized edge or privilege just by nature of someone having had certain ancestors?

If we as a nation are going to develope and recognize specialized rights and privileges for "Hispanic/Latino" people, as they claim to be, then we will also need to start rewarding the same things to "Anglo Saxons" and "Bavarians" and "Northern Italians" and the Hunans and Schezuans and whatnot else. They're as "eligible" under "ethnicity" claims as any "Hispanic/Latino" is.

The issue is citizenship. If you're a U.S. citizen, you're already receiving all the "rights" other citizens are. When you're denied these civil rights, you can bring legal claims against the perpetrator or try to. That's about it. You don't get a free house, free identities, free healthcare, free educations, free conferences with governors, free lunches in Congress, free anything, just because your ancestor was a Grand Poobah of some tribe somewhere.

Our government isn't listening. They've turned a blind eye for so long, and rather than enforce our laws, they are now impotent and in hiding, to chicken to take a stance.

I don't get the free benefits they do. The government doesn't live on the same level as the rest of us chumps, who follow the laws of our country, we keep yelling and nothing is happening.

I believe that the people who are "for" these unwanted people, should be made to sign up to be solely, financially liable for what the illegals and their litters cost the the rest of us. Maybe that would shut 'em up.

These illegals spit in our faces, like chimanga-pedro-jose-luis-etc., and his amigos.

H-1B Visa Holders Are Not the "Best and Brightest"

Most Are Average Technicians, Report Finds

"A new report from the Center for Immigration Studies demonstrates that most H-1Bs are ordinary people doing ordinary work, not the geniuses claimed by industry lobbyists. Those arguing for an increase in the number of H-1B visas (ostensibly temporary visas for 'specialty occupations,' many of them in the computer industry) claim that continued U.S. leadership in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics hinges on our ability to import the world’s best engineers and scientists. But this new data analysis shows that the vast majority of H-1B workers – including those at most major tech firms – are not the innovators industry portrays them to be," the Center for Immigration Studies says in an announcement of a new report by Dr. Norman Matloff.

I hate playing Devil's Advocate but:

when I look at colleges and university's all around the country, the ones teaching computer science. I notice that virtually all of those programs dont seem to adapt to new technology. They still teach Unix and C and a LOT of theory. Along with all of those Gen. Eds. focused on political correctness.

I agree with Bill Gates to a point, these schools....even here in Seattle dont teach C#, ASP.NET deep enough.....if at all. Or just a little of those or Java or C++.

Bellevue Comm College has a 6 month MCAD program. Fine but the MCAD's are being retired in 1 year and are being replaced by MCPD's.

Sure it looks nice to have a BS or AS in Computer Science, but it might as well be a Chemistry degree.

Don't get me wrong, I hate mass immigration(legal and otherwise) as much as anybody. I know that the high price of fuel, groceries, housing, high traffic, wage depression, etc. has a lot to do with people coming here, the majority of which don't want to assimilate.

ADD LOW SLAVE PAY IN TOO

As Bill Gates and his buddies replace Americans with slaves; they pay them peanuts too.

See the proof:

"...The temporary visa program known as H-1B enables U.S. employers to hire professional-level foreign workers for a period of up to six years. According to the law (8 U.S.C. § 1182(n)), employers must pay H-1B workers either the same rate as other employees with similar skills and qualifications or the "prevailing wage" for that occupation and location, whichever is higher. This is to prevent the hiring of foreign workers from depressing U.S. wages and to protect foreign workers from exploitation.

This report examines the wage data in Labor Department records for Fiscal Year 2004. It compares wages in approved Labor Condition Applications (LCAs) for H-1B workers in computer programming occupations to wage levels of U.S. workers in the same occupation and location. The analysis demonstrates that, despite the H-1B prevailing-wage requirement, actual pay rates reported by employers of H-1B workers were significantly lower than those of American workers. These findings show that the implementation of the prevailing-wage requirement in the H-1B program does not ensure that H-1B workers are paid comparably to U.S. workers. Moreover, the data suggest that, rather than helping employers meet labor shortages or bring in workers with needed skills, as is often claimed by program users, the H-1B program is instead more often used by employers to import cheaper labor...."

Anybody who has ever worked with H1bs would know this finding well. I guess CIS had to do a report to prove the very obvious - like reports that show smoking is bad for your health or rich people have bigger houses, etc.

95% of H1Bs are run of the mill workers with no special skills except for their willingness to work for less so as to gain US residency for their family.

Why not agree to give all of a competency test, even the ones already here, and if they don't show a high level of ability then they don't get the visa, or they lose the one they have and have to return to their country of origin.

It was never about the brightest or best. It's always been about the bottom-line. While living and working in Silicon Valley California, I routinely came into contact with imported foreign workers. Nice people for the most part, but no where near the high caliber of American workers. In salary alone, High-tech industries were able to hire two foreign engineers at less the wage of one American engineer. And of course, foreign workers got far less in benefits. The huge amounts of savings these companies were making never translated into lower retail product prices. People like Bill Gates became billionaires off of the combination of extremely cheap labor and high product prices. American workers have been effectively excluded from these jobs because, the business conglomerates have been able to put the people of their choice in office with huge amounts money given to election coffers. And in return, the paid for politicians, pay back Big Business with even more H-1B visa's.

04/29/2008: Republican Senators Bill to Terminate DV Lottery Replaced by Immigrant Visas for Advanced Degree Holders

Senator Judd Gregg (NH) introduced a bill "to replace the diversity visa lottery program with a program that issues visas to aliens with an advanced degree." This bill is co-sponsored by Sen. Lamar Alexander (TN). Sen. Elizabeth Dole (NC), Sen. John Sununu (NH), Sen. John Cornyn (TX), and Sen. Orrin Hatch (UT). These Senators are proposing to expand the immigration opportunities for Advanced Degree holder foreign workers in STEM or related fields without increasing the total annual number of immigrant visa under the current immigration system. Interesting legislative bill. For the full text of the bill, click S. 2868.
Part of the statement in introducing this bill co-sponsored by "leading" Senators in the Senate includes the following:
Sen. Gregg stated, “Talent is a nation’s most important resource in today’s information age, and our nation’s immigration policies need to catch up to this economic reality. In addition to increasing the number of H-1B visas and employment-based visas for highly skilled workers, I believe that Congress should realign our immigration programs so they better meet our economic needs, including the well-documented shortage of workers with advanced degrees in the math and sciences. By converting a lottery visa program that has marginal skills requirements into one that is focused on the best and the brightest, we strengthen our competitive advantage, spur economic and job growth here in the United States, and deter employers from sending work overseas where highly skilled talent is located. Our visa lottery programs should not just benefit those who are selected, but should have significant positive ramifications for our nation as a whole. I look forward to working with my colleges on this measure and other immigration proposal to keep America competitive."

Posted by: Sandy on April 29, 2008 04:52 PM

DO WE HAVE TO KEEP BEATING THIS DEAD HORSE!

The majority of H-1B visa holders possess no special skills that their American counterparts lack. They are desired because they come CHEAP. The average H-1B foreign worker is paid 20 percent less than a comparably qualified U.S. citizen.

I live next ot UCSD, and a huge prrecentage of the study body are Chinese (not American born). Considering how hard it is for American born to get into Universities, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy when they say they can't find workers (and not totally convinced of that). We don't need all these foreign students, who will probably overstay their visas, and be added to the illegal population.

PRESS2 4 ENGLISH, COLLEGE DROPOUTS LIKE GATES DID JUST FINE WITH C+

Number one, software and technical jobs at MSFT require like one techie type and approximately 20-30 paper shufflers. The Vice President of MSFT has a degree in Asian Arts, that says it all. Most of the H-1Bs aren't skilled labor.

The Chemical Engineer, you mentioned, if there were jobs in Seattle for him/her [there aren't], designs massive process plants that produce an industrial base and thousands of American jobs.....oh, that's right, we sent all the industrial base engineering work to China, Japan, Korea, etc....we just fiddle around with video game design and X-Box.

MSFT or Gameboy companies don't need any more H1-Bs or workers outside of America to invent VISTA; they tried that and its a failure. I use XP and am tempted to switch to Mac; I bought Vista earlier and a lot of my key S/W didn't work on it [or slowed it way down and caused crashes], then the new Vista computer I was downloading on crashed with no warranty [place to bring it].

I'm buying all used computers next time, so I don't lose so much money with toilet paper warranties. Even the Washington State Attorney General I reported it to told me to go to Hades.

Ohhhh...have you tried getting your Vista O/S to reboot from a factory motherboard replacement with no Key Code provided....lol.....you have to talk to that rude guy from India that hangs up on you. I got through to him, talked to him in a mean low voice and he finally reluctantly provided me the alternate 58 character mesmerization time waste code, and through a miracle even I, Software engineer got it entered right, to keep my Vista alive [it was on a temporary boot from factory with no Key Code], until it crashed days later anyway permanently.

This Seattle computer business, especially with Vista, and all the wonderful recent help from the C+ foreigners has gone to Hades in a hen basket!

AMERICAN INDUSTRIAL BASE ENGINEERS DINOSAURS AREN'T SOFTWARE RELATED

Here's a backup paper [high school essay paper I helped my daughter develop] on chemical engineering as a career choice, enjoy:

Chemistry B
25 April 2008
Career Fields Related to Chemistry

The level of education is required is a college education for Chemical Engineer, Environmental Engineer and Petroleum Engineer.
The type(s) of degree(s) is/are required for a Chemical Engineer is at least a BS, but could proceed to MS and then PhD in Chemical Engineering. An Environmental Engineer generally requires a Civil Engineering degree, similarly with a BS through PhD required. A Petroleum Engineer requires a Petroleum Engineering degree, similarly with a BS through PhD required. (BS Degree Requirements)
The job outlook for the next 5-10 years is anomalous. There are currently no engineering jobs are listed in the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) as the fastest growing among the top 30 professions, except software engineering in America. The job outlook in Texas looks adequate enough in the three areas (Job Search), but who wants to live in Texas? Out sourcing of technical positions may destroy this dream though, so monitoring opportunities constantly state by state, will update the job outlook analyses for all technical positions in America. (30 Occupations with the largest Employment Growth, 2006-2016)
The average salaries are starting at $40-50K and with experience can reach an approximate average of $60-90K in 5-10 years for all the positions. But bear in mind, the out sourcing of America’s technical base and using mass foreign guest worker H-1Bs can severely impact all three (3) salaries on a high probability of late and cut them down as much as 30-40% as globalism growth by corporations continue to impact America. (30 Occupations with the largest Employment Growth, 2006-2016)
Most of the jobs are located related to chemistry are in Texas. Some are in Alaska too (Job Search).
I am not pursuing engineering math or science employment because of chronic wage deterioration through out sourcing. The pragmatic BLS evidence documents that all engineers are likely a dinosaur in America. Couple that with the excessive GPA competition at the University of Washington and likely grim job outlooks in technical areas in America as we head into a severe recession recently due to improper growth planning in America. I’m going into a more stable job area that relies on more overpopulation growth expectations from globalism, a Social Worker (US Doesn’t Need More College Graduates).

There are a number of bills in Congress right now that would expand the H1B program and even one by Zoe Lofgren that would make more employment based greencards available. If any of these bills pass then more citizens will lose their careers, as the law allows most employers to freely replace citizens with H1B people at will, even if the citizens are performing well in their jobs. Once the H1B-ers get their greencards, then the displacement of Americans becomes permanent.

You can also expect more fake job ads and interviews, like the fraud shown in the *How not to hire an American* videos on YouTube. In these videos, lawyers from the Cohen & Grigsby law firm in Pittsburgh discuss how they help employers game the hiring laws and legally disqualify even highly skilled American job seekers, just so H1B people who are ALREADY working in those advertised jobs can get sponsored for greencards.

Much of the H1B mess can be tied to the employment based greencard program, since it is the prospect of permanent residence that lures many of these foreigners here. H1Bers who do get greencards often go into management, where they engage in blatant discrimination against American citizens in favor of people from their home countries. Also, I have yet to meet an H1Ber-turned-greencard-holder that is even remotely interested in becoming a US citizen. You see, these obnoxious parasites want all the privileges and comforts of living in the US with NONE of the responsibilities of citizenship. These are good reasons to shut down the EB greencard program as well as the H1B racket.

I am a former National Merit scholar whose career prospects have been decimated by the flood of H-1B imports. For those that haven't had the dubious privilege of working with the H-1B imported workers, here are some examples of how they manage to mangle the English language.

Warehouse >> Vare - house
Immigrate >> Eee - mee - grate
Zero >> Jee - ro
Architecture >> Ar - kee - tek - ter
H-1B >> Hehch - VON - bee
Character >> Kah – RAHK – ter
Calculate >> Kah – kah – late
Organization >> Or – gan – say – shun
Purchase >> Per - chayse

I could go on and on with this, but hopefully you get the idea. Between these workers and the illegals, English is quickly becoming a foreign language right here in the United States.

There is only one reason why H1B workers are wanted here and that is because of the greed of American employers.

Bobby, I am none of the things you accuse me of. Wake up from your dream and see reality. You are being outmanned physically by Hispanics and outsmarted by Asians too. Instead of dreaming up whacked out conspiracy theories, you need to adapt to the global economy. Instead of wasting your time on rants and conspiracy theories, why not go into profession or start a business that serves the needs of the immigrants instead? They are the future whether you like it or not.

Purpose Driven Executive, thank you for the "life" advice. I had a successfull business for years without ever having broken any laws, for example "tax laws", "workers comp.laws", etc, as do so many of those whom you claim serve the needs of the "immigratns".

It seems so clear to me that you haven't the slightest idea of what massive, taxpayer draining, American culture destroying, criminal illegal immigration is doing to this nation? However, your not alone, so I understand your attitude. Your bottom line, very restricted, false view of economics, is shared by many other people who are, well, blinded by that very bottom line. I have to speak in generalities, because if the thousands of reasonable posts, by people like Softwarengineer, and so many other folks whom have given you not opinions, but well documented facts on why outsourcing, insourcing and illegal immigration, are so damaging to this nation have not convinced you--nothing ever will.

Navarrette: More On Immigration Debate's Ugly Character

"In a recent commentary, I wrote that, as a Mexican-American, the ugliness of the immigration debate offends me -- not as a Mexican, but as an American. A woman wrote in and asked me to be more specific: Just what was it about the immigration debate that was so ugly? She came to the right place. After nearly 20 years of writing opinions and insisting that I don't speak for all Hispanics, in recent months, I've heard from hundreds of Hispanics who -- appreciative of my middle-ground approach to the immigration issue -- insist that I can speak for them anytime," says Ruben Navarette Jr. "It's not far off from what Janet Murguia had to say. As president of the National Council of La Raza, the largest Hispanic civil rights organization in the United States, Murguia recently delivered an important speech to the National Press Club. The topic: the immigration debate and what she called a wave of hate sweeping the land -- one that isn't limited to illegal immigrants, but which is now affecting all Hispanics regardless of where they were born, what language they speak or what flag they salute."

That's what this guy is pushing and its destroying our wages and housing industry. But we're racist if we want our immigration laws enforced to put a halt to uncontrolled growth? This guy is clearly racist for just the Latinos.

I view it more as a wave of common sense.

Perhaps the strategy here is to paint us all as a bunch of racist yahoos. That way our government will have an excuse to override us, since our motives are incorrect.

Ruben, blame America first, Navarette.

Hypocrites, Nazi's, profiling, racists, haters. That's Rubens assessment of everyone who supports enforcement of America's laws. I imagine Navarette conveniently won't extend his comparison to how other nations command respect of their borders, or enforce their laws against illegal aliens. All nations. Especially Mexico.

If amnesty, open borders and unlimited, unregulated overpopulation is Navarrette and LaRaza's 'middle ground', I hate to think what lies on the other side of that view.

Posted by: jeebie on April 29, 2008 01:34 PM

If the criminal illegal immigrants took the time and effort to immigrate to this country legally instead of like the common criminals they are, they would find themselves welcomed instead of hated. The citizens of the U.S. have never tolerated criminals no matter where they come from or who they are. They have no one except themselves to blame for the hate they bring upon themselves.

Posted by: Brian H. on April 29, 2008 02:23 PM

First of all Mr. Ruben Navarette, you are American-Mexican, not Mexican-American. Maybe you should get that straight first? Second, there is no middle ground on illegal alien immigration, it's against the law, period! The hypocrisy here is trying to justify illegal aliens entering our country by saying there's a double standard. The truth is 85% of American citizens are saying stay out, and only a handful of business conglomerates, and special interest groups are saying come in. Who's the hypocrite here?
And then, of course, comes the racial argument, which is always rears it's ugly head when you don't have a viable argument. And then comes the double standard argument, which of course is just a continuation of the racial argument. Again, Mr. Navarett, who's the hypocrite here?
You were right in one respect, it's getting ugly. As one sheriff on the border said, Americans are getting so mad, their going to start shooting, soon!

Posted by: Bob Hubble on April 29, 2008 02:51 PM

People who find debate 'ugly' are not believers in free expressions of opinion. They want their agenda and no opposition. I hope the debate turns uglier...

Posted by: MS on April 29, 2008 03:11 PM

As for his list of things that Hispanics find distasteful:
"The hypocrisy. We have two signs on the U.S.-Mexican border: "Keep Out" and "Help Wanted."" I'm for ending the hypocrisy immediately - take down the figurative "Help Wanted" sign.

"The racism. With lightning speed, the debate went from anti-illegal immigrant to anti-immigrant to anti-Mexican." Puh-leeze. Idiotic take on the issue. The debate is completely about anti-ILLEGAL-immigrants. The illegal Mexicans are the ones who are making it about themselves. They make up a huge number of the total illegals ... and moreso than any other group of illegals, they are the ones always demanding some right or benefit or handout. In addition, their President is by far the most meddling of all groups when it comes to U.S. immigration policy.

"The opportunism. Too many politicians are trying too hard to portray themselves as tough on illegal immigration." I would agree that's ugly - they are all talk, but spineless liars when it comes to action.

"The naiveté. People ask why Mexico won't help stop illegal immigration. Hint: Last year, Mexicans in the United States sent home $25 billion." What a goofball! Are you kidding me? You think people are naive to that fact? You're making our point exactly. These illegals are robbing the American economy and welfare systems to subsidize their home countries. We're very aware of that fact, thank you very much. Naive, my backside ...

"The double standard. The same folks who have zero tolerance for illegal immigrants easily tolerate those who hire them." This guy really is clueless. Yeah, that's why people are pushing so hard to heavily penalize businesses that knowingly hire illegals.

This guy sounds either really uninformed or just plain extremely bias to me. I think he twists the facts and misinterprets, (no doubt intentionally), anti-illegals' strong opposition to open-border nuts as being anti-Mexican (as the majority of Mexicans seem to fall into the open-border nuts group).

Perhaps the most ridiculous and hilarious thing about this article is that he describes his approach as "middle-ground" ... and then says his opinions are not far off from the President of one the most racist organizations that exists in the country today ... La Raza! It's clear why Mexicans don't mind if "he speaks for them" ... that's exactly who he is speaking for, and them alone!!

Navarro, those "Latinos" he "represents" and LaRaza are ethnic-supremacists.

WOW! By the time I finished reading the essay by -S- I forgot what I was going to write! Way to go!!!!

After 20 years of having our tax money spent on people who salute another flag in THIS country - because they have no respect for THIS country and don't ever want to assimilate into THIS country . . . I think we have the right to feel slighted. This is our country and they are INVADING IT and I resent it!

If this guy was a TRUE AMERICAN he would be against illegal immigration and against La Raza; however I feel that because he is taking the side of the illegal immigrants he is against the United States.

Posted by: Sick 'n Tired on April 30, 2008 02:52 PM

Navarette has things totally inverted. Americans are now paying an estimated 3,500 dollars in taxes to keep illegal aliens in the nation. Hundreds of millions in taxes to keep them in our jails in California alone. Thirty four percent of them, admitted grudgingly by the government are on welfare, while 2 percent of them do agricultural work. The lier Hillary, McClown, and racist Obama all want open borders. Fun.

Posted by: Bobby on May 1, 2008 04:56 AM

The only thing ugly about the immigration debate, is the way Americans are railroaded in their own country by those who shouldn't be here to begin with.
Navarette's reasons are all hogwash. Americans don't like the actions of employers. Our ancestors came here legally and left their pompous attitudes and sense of entitlement (if they had one) at home. Sending money home to Mexico is no justification for coming here and enforcement works better than amnesty or allowing the problem to fester. If a ugly attitude has extended to legal Mexicans, blame it on the illegals who are the cause. (Yes, I'm serious) If you are here illegally, you need to get out of this country.

Kansas "Compromise" Bill Stuck in State House

"Legislators declared illegal-immigration reform one of their top priorities at the beginning of the session. But as they head back for a final few days this week, a compromise bill is foundering. The measure, significantly scaled back from earlier proposals, rankles lawmakers from both parties. Some Republicans say it doesn't do enough to go after illegal immigrants. Some Democrats say it doesn't punish the employers who hire them. House Speaker Melvin Neufeld, R-Ingalls, said it would be "very unfortunate" if the Legislature ended its work without a comprehensive immigration reform bill," the Wichita Eagle reports. "Both the House and Senate began the year with aggressive proposals that attempted to prevent illegal immigrants from receiving public benefits or in-state tuition or casting a ballot. They also included strict penalties for employers who knowingly hired illegal immigrants. Those proposals have been pared dramatically. The conferees' proposed bill cut House language to require employers to check potential employees' immigration status through a federal database called E-Verify."

What is so hard about preventing illegal aliens from taking Americans taxes? Has anyone noticed that it's never hard for politicians to say NO to hundreds requests by actual citizens they supposedly represent. Americans are abused in so many ways by these rotten politicians that it's becoming normal behavior for them.

Posted by: Bobby on April 28, 2008 12:41 PM

Until e-verify or basic pilot is made mandatory nationwide, we will see employers continue to exploit himan labor!

As far as I'm concerned they are just as guilty as the illegals they hire and should be arrested right along w/ them !!

If we're not going to enforce our country's existing laws, we don't need an ammendment to enforce them; we need an ammendment NOT to enforce them.

Manassas Group Show Success of Local Activism

"It was a dramatic change in his Prince William County neighborhood that got Greg Letiecq thinking about immigration almost three years ago. After going to government officials with concerns about crowded homes and congested streets, Letiecq said, officials' lack of response made him realize it was time to take the matter into his own hands . . . Letiecq united unhappy residents around the region, he said, by forming Help Save Manassas. He noted that similar groups were in place: Help Save Herndon and Help Save Loudoun," the Washington Post reports. "Letiecq, also the creator of the conservative blog Black Velvet Bruce Li, said people can walk down the street and notice the changes: Graffiti is disappearing, the number of students for whom English is a second language is declining and crime is down. The drop in crime is reflected in Manassas Police Chief John J. Skinner's recent report showing that the city's crime rate dipped to a five-year low in 2007."

Illegal Aliens Leave Prince Georges, Go to Neighboring "Sanctuary" Towns

"Hundreds of foreign-born families have pulled their children from Prince William County public schools and enrolled them in nearby Fairfax County, Arlington County and Alexandria since the start of the school year, imposing a new financial burden on those inner suburbs in a time of lean budgets. The school-to-school migration within Northern Virginia started just as Prince William began implementing rules to deny some services to illegal immigrants and require police to check the immigration status of crime suspects thought to be in the country illegally," the Washington Post reports. "'The resolution is clearly working,' said Corey A. Stewart (R-At Large), chairman of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors. 'It is driving down the non-English-speaking portion of the schools and saving us millions of dollars. They're going to other jurisdictions and costing them money.' Stewart called those jurisdictions 'sanctuary' cities and counties, saying illegal immigrants are welcome there. He added: 'There is going to be pressure to enact similar resolutions in those neighboring cities and counties.' Officials from those jurisdictions reject that assertion."

I would assume the school district they left is better off without the illegal children although they are probably crying because they get paid on the number of children in classes and with the downturn that's too bad! All other services are probably seeing more money for those actually needing their services.

I know that the isolationist whack jobs around here despise the Hispanics from south of the border. But whether you like it or not these people represent the future of America. America desperately needs their labor and their purchasing power as consumers as the baby boomers fade away and bite the dust over the next 10-20 years.

These state and local initiatives will mean nothing when the comprehensive immigration reform package becomes law, as it most likely will sometime after the 2008 elections are held and the winning candidates take office. Federal law trumps state law, you know.

Posted by: Purpose Driven Exec on April 30, 2008 08:40 AM

Purpose Driven Exec:

Due to your use of the disparaging term "whack job" I have to conclude that you are not interested in a reasoned debate. I find your argument to be particularly easy to refute, though, so I will respond anyway.

The birth rate of native-born Americans is close to the replacement level, and the huge population increase predicted for the next few decades is only due to immigration. In other words we don't need immigration to maintain a steady population level for the foreseeable future.

Even if we did have a declining population I would still favor just letting it decrease. Life would become better here with fewer people and then more people would feel like having large families. Crowded neighborhoods with bad schools are not good places to raise large families. I recommend Steve Sailer’s articles on affordable family formation:

http://isteve.blogspot.com/search/label/Affordable%20family%20formation

I think the disagreement over immigration has a lot to do with identity. For some reason you don’t mind turning the U.S. into a Hispanic country. This is either because you identify with foreigners or because you are one of those people who profit off of high levels of immigration at the expense of the rest of us. Most of us here at this site would rather maintain the current identity and culture of the country.

(Headline should refer to Prince William County rather than Prince Georges. Prince Georges County is in Maryland.)

Prince William has done an excellent job. The county is in the D.C. metropolitan area. Biased reports of the Prince William effort are included in The Washington Post. Now even the Post can't ignore the facts of the savings to the county and the improvement of living conditions in old neighborhoods that had been overrun with boarding houses and crime. Prince William will serve as a model for communities around the country. The residents are middle class, primarily blue collar people who worked hard and smart to rescue their community. Across the country, people like the Prince William residents will not stand for amnesty (aka "comprehensive" "immigration reform").

Posted by: T2 on April 30, 2008 10:11 PM

Hal K, your counter argument doesn't work because the native born replacement births you speak of turn out to be TV watching, video game playing bums just like their parents. The only way for the economy to support the homegrown freeloaders is to import both low tech and high tech immigrants as needed to do the actual work.

Like many others here, you're living in a fantasy world that exists only inside your head. Why can't you see the reality of the modern world? Maybe you're just a gullible person who spends too much time listening to Lou Dobbs. Or maybe you're just a whack job.

FAIR president Dan Stein appeared on CSPAN2 Friday, for a one hour Q&A at the Newseum with Brent Wilkes, Executive Director of LULAC, and about 125 students in the audience. 'Close-Up' is a public affairs program for high school students designed to put them face-to-face with journalists, experts and newsmakers. Streaming video is at the CSPAN site. (It's paired with a author interview so forward ahead to about an hour in.)

Great job, Dan. Wilkes isn't close to your league in this debate.

"UNCONTROLLED GROWTH"

You've been doing this for for over 10 years and you have a great composure on television. I'm sure you'll do an excellent job.

Here's a suggestion: Use the term "uncontrolled growth" in America clogging our infrastructures and social agencies.

I prefer "overpopulation", but the open border types attach "hate" to that word.

"Uncontrolled Growth" hasn't been used much by MSM or politicians [except as something they don't like anyway] and they can't ambiguously attach the "R" card to it....and 90% of Americans are dead against "Uncontrolled Growth"...

MORE INFORMATION FOR DAN STEIN

Hi Dan, and the rest of the bloggers too, I just input this Stagflation Blog entree into Dr. Roubini's comments and thought you'd like a copy too, it definitely may help your "uncontrolled growth" debate:

"....I'M SO RELIEFED

I feel I fit in to this blog now, it doesn't seem so "stuffed shirt" anymore, more relaxed and laid back.

Anyway, here's a high school essay I helped my daughter with on the future for our children (it fits the stagflation article from Dr. Roubini), enjoy [it got a 95% by the way]:

Executive Branch Essays Assignment

The size of the federal bureaucracy continues to grow at a horrifying rate, as the Department of Homeland Security was added on after 911 because of severe security risks our country faces. The President’s ability to properly control government is getting mitigated as the country and its government grows at this alarming rate. Far more problems are occurring in the country now too, with basically uncontrolled population growth in America, causing a plethora of economic, security and environmental impacts to a degree we have never seen in the history of America. I’m sure voting for a proper Senator and Congressman that is in line with your views is far more practical than just a commander and chief Presidential choice, as at least they can form committees and draw from popular vote strengths and opinions from the people more effectively. This is far better than a President choice picked by a handful of lobbyists led executive power direction, that lack proper pragmatic details, direction, vision and morals to plan a way out of the coming American quagmire.

It’s easy to say, reduce the federal bureaucracy that will fix the problem. What is the federal bureaucracy? It’s the Food and Drug Administration that makes sure your food is clean. It’s the Federal Aviation Association, which makes sure your plane trip is safe. It’s the Department of Defense that makes sure you’re safe. In other words, are you going to be happy in land without a postal department? No, the answer isn’t reducing our safe guards and critical services by reducing government in those areas, nor is it removing all the regulations that protect us too. The answer is depopulating our country and our environmental and security costs will reduce substantially. We can solve the greenhouse gas problem and set an example to the rest of the world to depopulate too. I see terrorism, hunger, energy/food/water shortages, etc; etc just plain going away in a few decades and the President can draw a sigh of relief and reduce many of his departments’ bureaucracy. We must act now. Politicians are clearly afraid to act against uncontrolled population growth in America because special interests want lower wages and uncontrolled growth for short-term greed and without special interest money, you can’t get elected. Let’s hope their fear and greed doesn’t lead us all over the cliff, because we acted way too late.

The civil service system has been beneficial to the operation of the federal government by assuring that people stay put and gain experience. It is an honor to serve our country in America’s civil service system; as the majority of our federal servants are doing all they can keep this country afloat. Without our federal civil service system, we’d have to contract out for many times the cost, less effectiveness and far less experience to draw from too. It’s definitely helped America.

Raising taxes in America right now is ludicrous. We’re in a recession and it would make it far worse, as that’s why we’re giving out economic stimulus checks this week. No, we must regain our industrial base again and hence a tax base back again too; or we face the horrifying possibility of becoming a third world nation with no scientists and engineers inventing dreams for my children and I. If we do something like build a government patented car with 100% American labor and materials only; that might work.

Americas Pending Bed and Breakfast Crisis

"Breakfast will not be served this summer at Cape Cod's Crown & Anchor. The Provincetown resort and entertainment complex usually hires 10 to 12 people from Jamaica and Eastern Europe each summer as cooks, housekeepers and maintenance workers. But new visa restrictions mean the guest workers it used last year aren't expected back," the AP writes. "The shortage provides an opening for local workers, especially with a slumping economy and a national unemployment rate of
