New Enforcement Process Does Little to Address Illegal Immigration

The Administration's shift to auditing businesses suspected of hiring illegal aliens has recently caused the dismissal of thousands of workers who could not provide proof of residence. However, while this new process has been successful on the surface, it does very little to address the millions of illegal aliens in this country or discourage the thousands who cross our borders illegally every month. Ira Mehlman, FAIR's Media Director, commented that "this does nothing to address the millions of people in the country illegally" who have an incentive to remain here as long as possible in the hopes of eventually winning amnesty. "As long as that's on the table," Mehlman said, "they will stick it out because there's a good chance of being rewarded." The Seattle Times gives a detailed look in this story.
