Senate Votes to End Debate on Bill, Kills Census Amendment


Senators voted 60-39 to stop debate on the Commerce, Justice and Science appropriations bill, preventing debate on an amendment offered by Sen. Vitter (R-LA) that would have had the Census ask about citizenship status. The amendment would have addressed the disparity in representation where some Congressional districts have many more registered voters than others, due to illegal immigration.
