Louisiana Schools Pay $1,600 Per H-1B Teacher

The Caddo Parish School Board in Louisiana is finding the true cost of cheap foreign labor higher than they expected. School board members learned they are paying $1,600 to each Filipino teacher recruited through the H-1B program, in addition to a $400,000 fund for reimbursing other claims filed by those teachers. The move comes after widespread allegations of abuse by foreign teachers brought into Louisiana by a labor company. "Among the allegations is that the company charged teachers an exorbitant amount of money, about $15,000, to secure a teaching position in the United States and proper documentation. Once they arrived, teachers then were charged 10 percent of their monthly income," the Shreveport Times reported.
