Economy, tighter security help in sharp drop of Border Patrol Apprehensions Arrests by the Border Patrol dropped to a 35-year low in 2008, to a total of 724,000. The DHS says the drop is due to the economy and tougher enforcement. Arrests peaked in 2000 at 1.6 million. Read more here. |
