Illegal Immigration Cost VA Taxpayers $1.7 Billion

Numbering nearly 300,000, a number that has tripled since 2000, Virginia's illegal alien population represents a major burden on the state's taxpayers and on the state budget. FAIR's research team's latest cost study estimates that Virginia's illegal immigrant population costs the state's taxpayers nearly $1.7 billion per year for education, medical care and incarceration. The annual fiscal burden amounts to about $625 per Virginia household headed by a native-born resident. Click here to get all the details about our latest cost study. Why is this important? The numbers tell the story, and illegal immigration has been a growing problem for the state of Virginia. In 2009 Virginians will head to the polls to choose a new governor and it is time that candidates for this office address this issue.
