Breaking News: Senate to Consider Partial Amnesty for Agricultural Workers Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) obtained passage today of an amendment to the Iraq supplemental appropriations bill to provide partial amnesty for illegal immigrants working in agriculture. The amendment would provide legal status for 1.35 million agricultural workers and lessen current protections for Americans and new foreign workers taking agricultural jobs. The amendment was adopted 17-15 in the Appropriations Committee and will be part of the bill put to the full Senate for a vote. In a parallel move, apparently Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) is attempting to use a similar amendment to reopen temporary visas for unskilled workers outside the annual ceiling. [FAIR Comment: Experience with partial amnesty provisions of this type demonstrate that partial amnesties become permanent amnesties at the end of the ‘temporary’ period. The argument becomes that the U.S. has allowed these people to put down roots and it would be unfair to try to uproot them now.] Comments
Screw their roots. Their roots are not in this country. Their roots aren't in our fields, either. their roots are in their home country whereever that is and I wish the hell they would all go back and take Boxer, Feinstein, Napolitano, McCain, Obama, Clinton, Kennedy and a whole bunch of others with them. I am so tired of these "representatives of the people" slipping some kind of a bill into the wording of some totally unrelated bill in order to get it passed. It should be unlawful! Posted by: American Me on May 15, 2008 04:42 PM These jackals in congress just never quit trying to sell the American worker out. A partial amnesty will lead to a full blown amnesty. These corporate whore politicians need to be thrown out on their *ss.
Posted by: Independent Voter on May 15, 2008 04:55 PM The U..S. Senate is a treasonus anti-citizenry, group of traitors. Period. The couldn't get themselves to do anything beneficial to the American citizenry to save their souls. Posted by: Bobby on May 15, 2008 04:58 PM I wish to send letters, email and phone the members of the Appropriations Committee to voice my concerns with the amendment they adopted. Does anybody know how to find out who the members are and how they voted? I would appreciate any help anyone could give. Posted by: Brad A Aldrich on May 15, 2008 06:03 PM DON'T THEY HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO WORK ON IN GOVERNMENT? We have a recession and hyper-inflation caused by uncontrolled growth and they want to make it worse. Are our leaders completely brainless? We should be working on reducing greenhouse gases by depopulating America not enlarging it. Posted by: Softwarengineer on May 15, 2008 06:56 PM So right you are sick n tired! I am appalled at our elected officials that have continue to abuse their "power". The power that we the people gave them and hopefully take that power away from them. They are the idiots. They think Americans are too stupid and would not know about this or that we won't do anything. I've already called Inhofe and Coburn and I know they will stand strong against this. Shame on all of those that are trying to pull the wool over our eyes. It is because of them that our Country is going down the immoral, unethical socialist toilet. Illegal is illegal, I don't care what race. Our Country is at stake and they either are too damn blind or just don't care. They make me sick to my stomach. Rise and Shout. Posted by: jmac on May 16, 2008 07:31 AM Finestein is another open border crazy that does not care about American workers. First, she votes for NAFTA to export our jobs, next she wants to import illegal aliens to take our jobs and keep wages low and finally she wants to forced American taxpayers to provide free benefits to the illegals. This is another politican that cares more about illegal aliens then she does about American citizens. I'll never understand why California taxpayers keep her in office. Posted by: Rick S on May 16, 2008 09:57 AM THE INCREDIBLE INGREDIENTS OF THE SENATE'S NOXIOUS AMNESTY STEW Grant a three-year work visa followed by a permanent greencard to all illegal aliens who have been working as shepherds, goat herders and dairy herders. Grant a five-year work visa to the estimated 1.3 million illegal aliens working in other agricultural jobs -- plus all of their families. There is no instruction on what happens after the five years. Grant a tripling of the maximum number of H-2B visas for lower skill, non-agricultural seasonal workers. Grant industries an extra 218,000 additional permanent green cards for skilled foreign workers. THE VERY LOW CRITERIA FOR QUALIFYING FOR AN AG AMNESTY: Rosemary Jenks (Vice President, Government Relations, numbersusa.com) says you don't have to have spent much time in the fields to qualify for Feinstein and Craig's amnesty. You only have to meet ONE of the following three criteria to get the amnesty: Or worked 863 hours in agriculture during the 2004-2007 period. Or worked at least a little bit in agriculture on 150 different days during the 2004-2007 period. That amounts to an average of $1,750 per year ... Please do everything you can to enlist a small army in your community to fight this! If you aren't fighting this NOW then you have no right to complain in the future!! Posted by: Leigh Taylor on May 16, 2008 11:47 AM They come to the U.S. under the pretense of doing agricultural jobs. Then as soon as they get a green card they go after the jobs that they really want.(our jobs) If the farmers are really that hard up for farm laborers, they should make these jobs available to the inmates in prison. The politicains would find out that there are Americans that would be willing to pick lettuce for much less than $50.00 an hour. Posted by: Brian H. on May 16, 2008 12:03 PM May 16: At yesterday's markup of the Iraq supplemental appropriations bill, the Senate Appropriations Committee committed an outrageous act of disrespect for our men and women in uniform and to the citizens of this country by adopting an amendment by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) that gives amnesty to illegal-alien agricultural workers. The amendment indicates a maximum of 1.35 million illegal alien ag workers could obtain "emergency agricultural worker status" for a five-year period. Since their families also can obtain this status, it is estimated that the total number receiving an amnesty would reach 3 million. The committee also adopted other immigration-related amendments, including one that drastically expands the H-2B visa program for non-agricultural seasonal workers. Posted by: ALOHA on May 16, 2008 05:54 PM As a small farmer, the work I do is done on large farms by this group of people. This Allows Large farms to exist with a very low wage and benefits. Many small farm families have quit because income is low, in part because large farms produce great amounts of products on the backs of these workers. You do paid for almost all the services, health care, needed my these workers, and schooling of their children. Low cost food is the government angle, without these workers many large farms would have to paid a great deal more wages and offer benefits/ Which would allow small family farms to compete. Why do we need to import the BIGGEST Welfare hand outs in the World as well ?? These 1.35 Million would then each be able to bring in 2-10 family members over a few short years. ENOUGH. Posted by: jack on May 19, 2008 08:55 AM Amnesty for illegal immigrants has once again reared it's ugly head with Senator Feinstein (D-CA) slipping in her amnesty for agricultural workers into the Iraq Supplemental Spending bill being voted on this week in the Senate. This would amount to amnesty for over 3 million illegal aliens. Her amendment is not only not germane to the bill's intent, polls indicate 80% of Americans are opposed to amnesty on principle. Unless Americans immediately, once again, pepper the Senate with complaints, amnesty could come to pass. Want to fight against sellout politicians, illegal immigration and amnesty? Here's how: Posted by: zeezil on May 19, 2008 09:00 AM This treasonous legislation has been attempted before, under the name of Agjobs. Agjobs is part of a larger plan to pass an amnesty incrementally and quietly in order to avoid the attention of the majority of Americans (who oppose Amnesty). The Hispanic Caucus wants Amnesty (any way they can get it). The high tech multinational firms want large increases in H-1B visas and employment-based green cards. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce wants huge increases in overall immigration. The U.S. Congress (and the Senate in particular) is doing everything it can to satisfy the greed of these special interest groups, while turning its back on the legitimate needs of its citizens. Posted by: Steph on May 19, 2008 09:31 AM I have phoned my senators as well as Feinstein and Mikulski and voiced my disgust that they would try to ride this bull through on a bill in which they purport to "support the troops"...when the only reason democrats will vote for war funding is to slide other crap they know will not stand on their own through! I hope everyone will wake up and flood the phone lines and do the same! Posted by: takn on May 19, 2008 09:47 AM Please call various Senators today!
