Hispanic Immigrants Not Happy With Provision to Favor Irish Illegal Aliens

"An effort by the Irish to secure a special immigration deal solely for illegal immigrants from Ireland isn't sitting well with some of their former partners in the fight for an overhaul of federal immigration policy. Although immigrant organizations officially have refrained from criticizing the Irish, many rank-and-file Hispanic immigrants — who say their families have been hit hardest by deportations — are saying they are shocked that the Irish are quietly working for a separate pact with federal officials," the New York Sun reports. "Irish leaders have defended their proposal for a separate pact by saying it would correct what they call historic inequities, referring in particular to a change in the law in 1965 that reduced the number of visas for the Irish as it opened up those available to immigrants from regions other than Europe." Why not favor the Irish? After all, they speak english and are more highly educated than the [FAIR edit] crossing our southern border!

Illegal means illegal. No special treatment for anyone. Period!

Enforce the existing laws NOW!

Posted by: melena29 on May 8, 2008 02:45 PM

Hilarious, two groups of skank illegals arguing over which one should have the right to ignore our laws.
Somehow, the fact that none of them should be allowed to stay here eludes them?
Wonder how they came to that conclusion?

WHAT PART OF ILLEGAL DOESN`T ANYONE UNDERSTAND!

Posted by: American Me on May 8, 2008 03:41 PM

Bring in the Irish! At least they already know our language....

Posted by: CHogan on May 8, 2008 03:45 PM

Of course Irish have the right to be in this country than anyone else. About 50 million Americans are proud of their Irish heritage.

We effectively settled the Northeastern part of the country through sheer hard work and courage to face daunting challenges.

Legalize Irish first and then think about the Mexicans.

Posted by: proudirish on May 8, 2008 04:06 PM

Hispanics should really quit bitching. Isn't tens of millions more than a few thousand Irish? Not that illegal isn't illegal, but we really don't operate with logic on this issue, hence the nature of my comment.

Did the Irish sneak across the Atlantic Ocean and illegally enter this country?

I didn't think so!

Posted by: Sick 'n Tired on May 8, 2008 04:52 PM

proudirish, that is the truth. Although I am not Irish, it is a historical fact that the Irish were some of the hardest working folks that built up this nation. They did backbreaking work as farmers, bridge builders, road builders, skyscrapers, etc. etc. The only reason these pathetic politicians and other LAZY AMERICANS are always talking about hard working hispanics, to the exclusion of other groups that really built this nation, is because they are such low people character wise and have never done an ounce of real work in their lives and think pandering to hispanics is going to keep them on the gravy train. The stupidness of so many Americans in not seeing through this stuff, and firing these morons from their undeserved jobs amazes me to no end. Why are we so afraid of voting for people who are unpopular. Unpopular to whom should be the question? We will never, ever, get change supporting anyone, whom the Main Stream Media Supports.

Illegal is illegal, but look at it this way. You don`t see many Irish gangs destroying neighborhoods, smuggling and selling drugs, robbing, killing and raping, or having anchor babies on the backs of American taxpayers, costing us billions!

Posted by: Independent Voter on May 8, 2008 06:25 PM

Chogan, proudirish, and Sick ‘n Tired, here’s the problem with your arguments:

#1 - There can be no exceptions for any reason. We either insist on total enforcement of current immigration law, or we disregard it altogether. Otherwise you are providing grounds for exceptions for everyone. There is simply no justification for exceptions to our laws.

#2 - This is a pet peeve of mine so grant me a bit of latitude here: Where ever your ancestors came from they made an extraordinary sacrifice in order to give you the gift of American citizenship. I choose to honor my great grandparents for their selfless gift by pledging my allegiance to this country and this country only. If you call yourself an American, you really need to drop the hyphen. It only serves to divide us, and as history has demonstrated time and time again, divided we will fall.

#3 - Whether they swam across an ocean, came in on a work visa and overstayed, or snuck across a wide open border, they are in violation of our immigration law and we cannot tolerate or make an exception for any reason (see #1).

P.S. I have the world’s most amazing grandson, whose paternal grandparents are of Irish descent. He will call himself an American.

Three of my four great-grandparents came from Ireland (maternal side) during the potato famine, yet the Irish who are here now illegally should get in line - in Ireland - just like the rest of the world. And speaking of the rest of the world, we need a moratorium on ALL immigration until the last tsunami of humans (legal) can be assilimated. We keep taking them in, or allowing them to sneak in. We simply cannot sustain this massive influx. Food, water and all the natural resources are being used at an alarming rate. But the three pro-illegals running for the highest office in the land, will just about finish us off. It's insane for them not to discuss the ramifications of this invasion. When they speak of health, education and sustainable development, they need to state that all of these factors are impacted by illegal immigration.

I for one believe strongly that rather than an arbitrary age hurdle to determine the right to vote we ought to have a passing grade on an intelligence test as the determinant. Proudirish would undoubtedly fail such a test. The Irish have lots to recommend them however a claim that they are so special as to confer a right to not be held to the same rules and laws as apply to the rest of us is rock solid proof of idiocy.

Here's a special deal for every criminal illegal
immigrant in this country. Go home to your own country and apply for U.S. citizenship. Jump through every hoop, pay every fee, and wait. If at the end of the process you are granted U.S. citizenship, you will have the special status of knowing that the American people welcome you to the U.S. and that you did it legally.

Thanks for that post Melena29. That's the best comment I have read here in a while.

Posted by: Dave A on May 9, 2008 10:06 AM

WHEN DID ANY TYPE OF ORGANISED CRIME IN AMERICA BECOME MOTHER TERESA?

I agree with Melena29 too. The Constitutional Laws on immigration aren't elite toilet paper to flush down their overpopulated American sewage disposal they created with too many recent immigrants, legal or illegal.

But make sure to recycle and buy flourescent bulbs.

Sorry, my Irish posters, but it was the ENGLISH settlers who explored, prospected, claimed, and settled North American lands. It was the ENGLISH settlers who formed the United States of America long before the Irish began coming here in large numbers.

The only reason many Irish immigrants were hired to build bridges, skyscrapers, etc. is because they were cheaper and more desperate than U.S. natives.

If you truly were proud Irishmen, you'd all go back to Ireland and kick out the third-world foreigners that are infesting your homeland.

BAN ST. PATRICK DAY!!

Screw the Irish - they shouldn't get any special treatment just because they speak English. (I am at least 25% Irish, or so I am told, but I am 100% American and have no loyalty to any country or any people but my own!)

Posted by: Rex on May 9, 2008 01:57 PM

Proudirish, you are an idiot. I thought only the Hispanics were of the mindset, "I am [INSERT NATIONALITY OR ETHNICITY HERE], so therefore people of my same nationality/ethnicity should receive special treatment and be exempt from the law." I guess I was wrong.

To he11 with the Irish - they shouldn't get any special treatment just because they speak English. (I am at least 25% Irish, or so I am told, but I am 100% American and have no loyalty to any country or any people but my own!)

Posted by: Rex on May 9, 2008 02:18 PM

Let the Irish in!

They already speak ENGLISH!

They are easily assimilable!

The Irish have long, deep , roots in America!

I say; LET THE IRISH STAY!

Deport the mexicans!

AUDIOS!

My ancestors came from Ireland too, and although you can make many arguments for Irish immigration - they are mostly single, educated, taxpaying, English speaking, and not using our schools and/or social services- illegal is still illegal.

I've looked at some of the blogs in Ireland, and many of the Irish people think illegal immigration is a slap in the face to the U.S. They are correct.

The upside of this is the rupturing of the illegal coalition, which weakens the power of these lobbying groups.

My ancestors came from Ireland, and although many arguments can be made for Irish immigration- they are mostly single, educated, English speakers who are not clogging our prisons or sapping our services- illegal is stil illegal. I've checked some Irish blogs, and the people in Ireland mostly oppose Irish illegal immigration, because it disrespects our laws. On the other hand, I'm happy to see different illegal lobbying groups at each other's throats.

I would be less opposed to grant special status for illegal aliens from a WASP-type country. But Ireland is mostly Catholic, and gained notoriety for staunch reluctance against birth control. Not that all Irish are of that kind, but excessive breeding will drag us all into poverty before long (just like it dragged Irland into poverty).

Also, growing influence of the Catholic Church in the U.S. may spell out trouble for all of us. After all, there were many good reasons why we did separate from the Rome's rule more than half millennium ago. There is no good reason to go back.

So, be careful what you wish for when you call for legalization of all Irish illegals.

Immigrants of today should not be allowed to take credit for the efforts of immigrants of yesterday. I hate it when I hear the statement "immigrants built this country" or "this is a nation of immigrants". It doesn't mean that these are the people that deserve the credit for the work of other people. So what if this country is a nation of immigrants. Things are different now. We have less room and they are offering less skilled people. We provide more for our people now at our expense and it doesn't mean that we have to provide for illegals just because they want us to.

Besides, it isn't up to the hispanics to decide what we do for anyone in this country. They seem to forget that they don't run this place.

I disagree Sonja, and believe the record would prove me right. Yes, the English came first, but as far as hard workers, forget it, generally speaking they were lazy, LAZY, compared to the physical work done by the Irish, blacks, and Germans for instance. LAZZZZZZZZZZZYYYYYYY.

GET A LIFE: WE ARE NOT PUTTING THE RED CARPET DOWN FOR ''ILLEGALS'' YOU JUST WALK IN AND THINK WE OWE YOU.

SO, GO HOME WITH THE PAPERS IN YOUR BACK
POCKET. FILL IT OUT AND WAIT. TO YOUR NAME IS CALLED.

ITS ALL BLACK AND WHITE, READ IT.

This unwarranted allegiance to your ancestral homeland is exactly what I’m talking about. The last thing we want or need is this kind of divisive, counter productive backbiting. We are all of us, after all, Americans, aren't we? Let’s keep our eye on the ball, shall we?

Posted by: melena29 on May 13, 2008 11:29 AM

Now Bobby...the CHINESE made the Irish, the Blacks, and the Germans look like bums. Shouldn't we then legalize all the Chinamen? Go back to your whiskey, my friend.
