Raid Catches 33 Illegal Workers At Federal Courthouse
"Federal immigration agents raided the construction site of a new
federal courthouse in Richmond on Monday, arresting 33 workers on charges of violating federal immigration laws and being in the United States illegally, officials said yesterday. Ernestine Fobbs, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, said the 29 men and four women who were arrested were from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru. All were found to lack documents that would allow them to live or work in the United States, Fobbs said," the Washington Post reports. "According to radio reports, federal agents and Virginia State Police officers surrounded the work site about 8 a.m. and rounded up about 50 workers while others attempted to hide inside the half-built complex. The reports said that officials were still searching the site hours later and that the remaining workers were required to wear wristbands showing that their IDs had been found valid."

. . . and the contractor who hired them? What will happen to them? They should pay back and forefeit ALL funds paid to them for illegally hiring work via a federal contract.
THE BUCK HAS TO STOP SOMEWHERE AND WHY NOT WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT LOWERING THE BOOM ON EMPLOYERS ILLEGALLY HIRING WORKERS.
I never hear much about the employers fines and jail sentences.
I can tell you this they will all be back to work in a week. GOOD LUCK ICE you will need it. Hast lavista baby
FROM THE ARTICLE:
Aaron Samsel, a representative of the Virginia Immigrant People's Coalition in Richmond, said his organization and others would be available to assist relatives and friends of the arrested workers . . .
MY COMMENT:
Maybe they can assist the relatives out of the country, too!
FROM THE ARTICLE:
The raid was the third roundup of illegal immigrant workers in Virginia in the past two months. On April 8, federal agents arrested 59 Hispanic workers at the Lansdowne Resort in Loudoun County on charges of immigration violations and said most would be deported. In March, immigration officials arrested 43 Latin American immigrants at a construction site in Manassas.
MY COMMENT:
OK . . . and what was the result?
Did the employers get fined? Jail? Excluded from further contracts? Slap on the wrist? Verbal counseling? Anything?
GREAT NEWS!
12 MILLION MORE TOO GO!
COMMENT:
ALL ANYONE WANTS NOW IS MORE, & MORE MONEY UNDER THERE BEDS, BECAUSE THE DON'T CARE ABOUT THERE OWN AMERICAN FAMILY, AND ''THE UNITED STATES. ITS MONEY.
SUSANM
Beside the fact that there is no mention of employers being fined or punished for hiring illegals. It's good to see that the Common Wealth of Virginia is trying to reduce it's criminal illegal immigrant population.
THE SYMBOLLISM IN THIS STORY IS HORRIFYING
A local government is contracting out to an organised crime contractor to build a court house. Next, they'll be using the Mafia sweat shops to print Constitutional Law library supplies.
GREAT NEWS!
ONLY 12 MILLION MORE TOO GO!
Thanks for the laugh Softwarengineer! Though I'm not sure if the tears I wiped away were from laughing or the misery of what has taken place in our country.
It's not that hard to stop this. If ICE busts 20 businesses a day with 330 workers, multiplied by each State, they would deport 330,000 illegals a day in the country. It wouldn't take long to drain the swamp.
So I guess they were doing jobs no American would do. These people need to get out of our country.
Red hot chile pepper, were you the guy/women who said you were harboring illegal aliens in your house. If you were than you may one day be the one "sneaking back in."
I think that it is really bad that the company who was hired to do the work on the courthouse got the job and had the balls to hire illegal aliens who would be getting paid with tax payer money. They probably underbid many other contractors who do things legally and take out taxes and pay benefits to their workers. What message does this send to other companies initially other than if you play by the rules, you are out of the game. I am glad that they got busted, now they should fine the employers and take their contract away and give it to someone who does things the right way. The company should also be barred from doing anymore jobs for the government. They should be investigated for their practice of hiring illegals and see if they were paying their fareshare. If not, then they should be forced to pay it now. They should see if there has been any workplace injuries of their workers, tally the costs for medical care, unemployment, EMTs who would have responded at the cost of the taxpayers, etc, and charge them for that as well.
They should also investigate the addresses of the illegals and see if they are paying rent to a landlord who may not be claiming that as income. They should also check the information given to the employers to see if there has been an ID stolen from someone else. Then there should be arrests made for any infractions made by any of these people involved.
