Clearing the Air on Immigration and the Environment "It seems to me that if we are to have a useful debate about "Funny, but I do not see very many Latinos driving luxury SUVs or living large in McMansions. And we certainly have many environmental problems in areas of the U.S. that are not primary destinations for newcomers. Yes, first generations born to immigrants will likely emulate the excesses of the lifestyle we Americans think we are entitled to, but then that means our problem is really bigger than immigration." If the author of this article doesn't see many illegals perhaps he should try looking in an emergency room Posted by: jmac on May 6, 2008 11:57 AM EVEN FAIR DOCUMENTS 87% OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL DESTRUCTION OVERPOPULATION IS LEGAL/ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS And I imagine the other 13% is the illegal anchor babies. The baby boomers are environmental kings and queens, we kept population America on a positive environmental decline, until unplanned growth screwed up the positive trends. Posted by: Softwarengineer on May 6, 2008 12:01 PM Illegal aliens contribute to a lot of the destruction of the American environment. Beside the trash and human waste left in our deserts, they crowd our highways causing increased air pollution. The situation is out of control here in Texas and the politicans just want the taxpayers to keep paying for the benefits received by these illegal leeches. Posted by: Rick S on May 6, 2008 01:40 PM MORE PRO-ILLEGAL ALIEN NONSENSE! Posted by: American Me on May 6, 2008 02:58 PM The only people I see in the USA who have a sense of entitlement are the people who who break the law and/or live off the taxes of others. The only unsustainable lifestyles on planet earth are subsidy, lawlessness and overpopulation. Posted by: Bill Dexter on May 6, 2008 03:37 PM They refuse to see overpopulation & its link to immigration. They would rather just play the race card! Posted by: Norm on May 6, 2008 05:03 PM If the author would go and look in the areas where these illegals reside he would see the old abused rusted vehicles. lawns burning up and rubbish everywhere. These do gooders do not want to see whats going on inthe real world. Posted by: ALOHA on May 6, 2008 05:35 PM He doesn't see illegals driving big SUVs? I guess he's never been to Southern California. The preferred vehicle seems to be a pickup truck, the bigger the better. They also tend to drive older vehicles that emit more pollution, especially when you live closer to the border. They tend to have many more children, using more resources, etc. The argument that they are poorer, so therefore, they use less resources, is absurd. The open borders liberals can't take the truth. Maybe someone should give them a tour of the border to see the environmental damage. Posted by: viva la migra on May 6, 2008 06:18 PM By the way, how many illegals belong to environmental groups? In San Diego, the amount of trash, graffitti and other problems increases with more immigration. Posted by: viva la migra on May 6, 2008 06:20 PM What a stupid article Posted by: Aaron on May 6, 2008 06:22 PM The SIERRA CLUB IS A GOOD ORGANIZATION TO THROW YOUR MONEY DOWN THE SEWER ON SINCE THEY DON'T CARE ONE BIT ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. IF YOU ARE AN ENVIRONAMENTALIST AND SUPPORT THIS BOGUS OUTFIT YOU ARE DELUDED. Posted by: Bobby on May 6, 2008 06:59 PM Yeah, this journalist seems to have a point of view he wants to make clear. That illegal immigrants who live in the U.S. aren't doing a darn thing that could ever be a problem to us. But it already has and he has left out many factors that his opponents see has an issue. Like overcrowding, cities like LA are seeing their budgets colapse and they don't like to mention that the problem may be because they didn't have the correct information on how many people their county could support. Instead, they open subsidies to everyone then worries about it later. When a city has to take care of the needs of people who weren't accounted for or aren't supposed to be here, the costs for water, sewer, highways, electricity, healthcare, schools, and court costs add up quickly. Most of these people don't pay taxes and add to the population as soon as they can. I don't think that we should have to see our country over populated at the hands of illegals. My kids shouldn't have to sacrifice for the needs of foreigners who refuse to respect us. We have been used and abused for too long by people who think that we have to obligation to take care of their needs even if they refuse to take care of the needs of the people who are supposed to be in charge of allowing immigration or visa issues. I wonder how many fires that have been caused by illegals in CA. I wonder how much it costs the people who have to deal with the trash they leave behind. I wonder how much they take for the benefit of their citizen born children from the taxpayers. I wonder how much income they are claiming and how much they are actually getting. I wonder if the water supply in someplaces are suffering because of the fact that there are so many people living in the area who aren't supposed to be here. I wonder when people are going to start to say no when the counties want to raise taxes because of the needs of the schools because they have so many new students. ETC. ETC. Posted by: joeyindc on May 7, 2008 08:58 AM Forget immigration and the environment. Let's give Doug Moss a medal for being such a paragon of moral virtue. Posted by: Hal K on May 7, 2008 03:59 PM Agree with Bill Dexter & Aaron. I see more immigrants driving new cars/SUVs than others. They have the jobs, the money and the entitlements here in So. CA.
