Danbury Chief Outlines Enforcement Plan

"It will likely be at least six months to a year before any Danbury police officers begin training under a federal program designed to crack down on crimes involving illegal immigrants, Danbury Police Chief Alan Baker said Wednesday. Speaking before a group that advocates strict enforcement of the nation's immigration laws, Baker said the popularity of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement program has resulted in a backlog of requests to participate from police departments across the country," the News Times reports. "'The big unknown is how long it will take to process the requests. There are over 100 departments on the waiting list,' Baker told members of the U.S. Citizens for Immigration Law Enforcement. About two dozen members attended the meeting."
