Candidates Find it Hard To Face the Truth About Job Loss

"In the final debate before Tuesday's voting, Obama was asked about the negative economic consequences of immigration on the employment rate and wages in the African-American community. Said Obama: 'I think to suggest somehow that the problem that we're seeing in inner-city unemployment, for example, is attributable to immigrants, I think, is a case of scapegoating that I do not believe in, I do not subscribe to,'" notes Steve Bailey in the Boston Globe.

"'I believe,' Clinton responded, 'that in many parts of our country, because of employers who exploit undocumented workers and drive down wages, there are job losses. And I think we should be honest about that.' Talking about race is very hard. Talking about immigration is not much easier. Talking about race and immigration together can be absolutely explosive. But like anything else, if we can't recognize a problem, we can't fix a problem."

On a related note, the Coalition for the Future American Worker is running new ads this week on that very topic.

correction, candidates find it hard to face truth period, Juan AMNESTY EXPRESS Mccain still thinks the US should be in Iraq

Posted by: impachbush on February 11, 2008 04:49 PM

REMEMBER THEIR PAST AMNESTY FRUITS AS YOU VOTE AMERICANS

Don't believe any of their campaign promises; they're all lies.

Believe me, I wish I was wrong.

A lot of America is voting ambiguous change and personality "gut feel", that's like betting on a longshot at the horse race because its pretty.

But God Forbid we have an honest "solution orientated" overpopulation platform; the corporate slave masters picking and controlling the 2008 candidates would call it "racist".

I hear a lot of the Mitt Romney crowd aren't even voting for president this year. I imagine there's a big group of Democrats like me, ponderring the same thing. What difference does it make?

These political whores do not care about American citizens and legal residents--and we keep re-electing them. Can you say cookoo.

I believe Hillary's views on amnesty are more "practical" i.e. intended to get her votes from certain constituencies, while Obama's are more ideological and therefore more resistant to persuasion or change. McCain I write off altogether.

When Obama denied wage depression and black displacement in the debate, I thought "what a phony he is." Now he's pulled off his amnesty issue, having dropped it on Super Tuesday night. Maybe someone told him he offended African-Americans with his answer to the question, where he basically said, "No, black folks are wrong. They're not losing that construction job because of immigration. That's just scapegoating. It's just like any other layoff or plant closing. Stuff happens. Get over it." Lame answer from a candidate who plans to bring not change, but acceleration of the problem. Like I said, though, he's backed down his rhetoric.

At least Hillary spoke in terms of wages, job losses and the needs in Mexico in the debate. That's one reason why she's doing so well with Hispanic voters, as these issues affect most folks in the Latino community.

AND WHY DID AMERICAN PEOPLE VOTE FOR MCCAIN IN VIRGINIA WHEN THEY COULD VOTE FOR HACKABEE??? I CAN SEE ONE THING, THAT SOME OF AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE STUPID ENOUGH TO VOTE FOR MCCAIN WHEN HE WANTS TO GIVE AMHESTY TO ILLEGALS-- AND WHERE IS THE AMERICAN PEOPLE' CONSERVATIVE BRAIN TO THINK RATIONALLY WHEN VOTING FOR SOMEBODY RATHER THAN CHOOSING RANDOMLY.

ONCE AGAIN, AMERICAN IS GOING TO HELL JUST BECAUSE AMERICAN PEOPLE DO NOT SPEND SOME TIME TO FIND OUT ABOUT PRESIDENTIONAL CONDIDATES: WHAT AND HOW THEY ARE GOOD OR BAD ON SOMETHING, SO IF SOMEBODY IS VOTING FOR MCCAIN, SO THEY WHOLE FAMILY WILL BE VOTING FOR MCCAIN, JUST BECAUSE EVERYBODY DOES IT. WHAT IS A JOKE!! BE YOURSELF, AMERICAN PEOPLE, READ MORE ABOUT CONDIDATES BEFORE VOTING, JUST THE SAME WHEN YOU BUYING SOMETHING-- YOU THINK THEN WHAT TO BUY, BUT NOT SPENDING MONEY ON EVERYTHING WHAT YOU SEE IN THE STORE. RIGHT?????????????

The AMERICAN TRAIN WRECK is happening in slow- motion before our very eyes! The Republic nomination process is totally screwed. It needs to be restructured, so that everybody gets to vote two times, once in the early stages where they vote for a first choice and a possible second, on various days, to narrow the field down to 2 or 3 with close results, & a RUNOFF between the finalists, where only registered Republicans or DEMS can vote nationally on the same day, just two weeks before the Convention. In these troubled times, a single chance to vote doesn't allow an orderly process. To sum up: There should be a FINAL national primary, all on the same day, for both parties, where only the registered party members can vote and only those candidates with at least 25% of the earlier preliminary vote can compete! It may sound complex, but it needs to be done in some such way! With the will of the people not being reflected in the election, the TRAIN WRECK CONTINUES TOWARD IT'S DREADFUL END , with all bad candidates, and suicidal government policies!

None of the top candidates believe in protecting the American worker...sure they talk about unions and rights, but remember, the democrats are steeped in helping illegals organize...

It makes me sick to think of all the people who lost jobs in the last huge hurricane season and were replaced by illegals...and now GM is going to buy out its American workforce so it can bring in new hires cheaper? it's shameful!

WHEN IT COMES TO POLITICIANS AND PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES, THERE IS NO TRUTH. THEY ARE MASTERS AT ILLUSIONS.

Jack asked about why McCain won in Virginia. As a lifelong Virginian, I think I can answer. First, McCain's victory was narrow for someone who is the presumptive nominee. Second, those who voted for him came from two basic categories: military retirees (mostly in Tidewater), and defense contractors (in the DC suburbs). The retirees voted for him out of admiration for his wartime service; what he's done in the 40 years since really didn't matter. The defense contractors are simply looking after business. McCain would spend more on the military which is money in their pockets. Just about everybody else voted for Huckabee or Paul. Unfortunately VA was winner-take-all so McCain got 100% of the delegates, even though he only earned about half of them.

If VA had voted early (before 1/19) the vote would have been split almost evenly between McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Thompson, with about 5% for Paul. If VA had voted on Tuesday (2/5), Huckabee would probably have come in first, with McCain and Romney very close behind.

Only mouse brain people believe immigrants cause them to be losing their jobs. No need for strict quota points based system here. Just increase quota for H1 visas and EB green cards so more highly skilled global workers and their likewise spouses can make USA compete better in global economy. Better still would be the awarding of fast track EB green cards to those highly skilled that are from outside USA. Why should bright young prospects be denied jobs and perm resident status just because unskilled complainers have ancestors that fought in long ago wars? You produce so little, consume so much from all over the world yet you want to hold on to inflated salary. Want to make economy better? Bring in bright young Indian pros and get rid of expensive benefit for old retired people who are going to die soon anyway.

I WAS GOING TO ANSWER SARITA, BUT INDEPENDENT AND AMERICA ME BEAT ME TO THE PUNCH

Thank you, Happy Valentines Day!

Hey Sarita,
Ever contemplate staying and helping your own damn country? Didn't think so....you'd rather join a country that due to it's strengths is stronger, smarter and more innovative than your own. Guess you aren't wise enough to add a contribution to your own people , rather grab on the coattails of Americans and steal their legacy because your own is pathetic. As far as consuming stuff from other countries , most Americans are sick of purchasing the poisoned, inferior crap that is turned out daily from around the world. The US made products were the best and eventually people will return to that which gives them much more for their money than the crap third world countries spits out.

The post from Sarita shows what these *highly skilled immigrants* really think of America and Americans, yet they have been given our jobs, our incomes, our career paths, our technology, our training, and access in many cases to our sensitive data. All of which should have gone to Americans instead. This is what we have opened our door to. Mainstream society in America needs to wake up to this threat!

Sarita could not be more incorrect about her "highly skilled" countrymen. I recently converted my secondary ISP, NetZero from Dial up to DSL, it took 3 tries to get it correct. So much for the "Great Service at a Low Price" . I HAD to change my original ID and password to achieve the 3rd time success. NetZero has NO Customer Service Centers in the United States. After the Indian Call Center Representives totally screwed up the 1st two attempts, a friend suggested I call at the time the calls are defaulted to the Philippines. The Filipino Rep finally cleared it up as best she could. I was very close to canceling all service with them, however the other major providers (who are buying up the competition within the US), use the same "off shore" customer service arrangement. I now just laugh at the NetZero ads with the "Chairman & CEO, Mark Goldstein" and will "jump ship" as soon as I find American Based Company that operates ONLY within the 50 States, with American Citizens as their workforce. Unfortunately, I may have to wait a while, if I need assistance, I will be calling at a time when I can at least connect with the Filipino Customer Service Center.
