Another Lawsuit Filed Against Farmers Branch


"Farmers Branch was sued again Tuesday over its efforts to keep illegal immigrants from renting housing in the city. 'Shocking,' Mayor Pro Tem Tim O'Hare responded sarcastically. He said that city officials had done nothing wrong and that another lawsuit saying they had was 'quite simply preposterous.' The suit, filed in state district court in Dallas, seeks to block implementation of a new city ordinance that would require all renters of houses and apartments to seek occupancy licenses from the city," the Dallas Morning News reports. "If a federal database couldn't verify that a tenant was in the country legally, he or she would have 60 days to rectify the problem or lose the license and be forced out of the house or apartment. Violators could be fined up to $500 a day."
