Illegal Aliens Protest Oregon License Rules "More than 1,000 immigrants and their supporters protested Friday at Comments
Oh come on, illegal aliens won't be able to get to work. That's the point! Take away the magnets that keep them here and the only option will be to self-deport. Some say they won't leave and will become theives to make money. Well, okay then, you will get arrested and deported. DO IT THE EASIER WAY-SELF DEPORTATION OR THE HARDER WAY-DEPORTATION-YOU CHOOSE!!! He had no interest whatsoever in cracking down on the flagrant issuing of drivers licenses for illegal aliens until the threat of a grassroots surge and citizens' referendum scorched his backside. Three cheers for the dedicated volunteers involved with Oregon's state based immigration reform organization, OFIR, and their brilliant leader! This is one more piece of evidence that we need to focus more of our energies away from the hopeless national political scene and towards grassroots efforts, including new strategies that are completely independent of the choreographed circus we call politics. the Capitol as lawmakers and Gov. Ted Kulongoski moved to require tougher driver's license rules that start in three weeks. The changes are part of a broader effort to beef up border security, but they also will make it harder for undocumented immigrants to drive legally," the Oregonian reports. "The new rules, ordered by Kulongoski in November, require applicants to show a valid Social Security number and other documentation proving they are U.S. citizens, legal residents or authorized visitors. Kulongoski said he will not back off efforts to make Oregon more secure."
