Problems With the Iraqi Refugee Bill

Christine at Vigilant Freedom has a long post about H.R. 2265, the Iraqi Refugee Bill.

"Here are the Frequently Asked Questions and answers for the dangerous and defeatist Democratic Iraqi refugee bill in the House - H.R. 2265 (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:h2265:) (S. 1651), with Kyle Shideler’s more detailed analysis here. It’s being sold as a way to get at-risk Iraqi employees - Iraqi translators, contractors, spouses and kids - into the U.S. as 'special immigrants.' But the reality is that the bill seriously undermines provisions in US immigration law, opening immigration to those identified as terrorists or supporters of terrorist groups.

From the (facetious) FAQ: "My cousin Abdullah applied two years ago as a U.S. immigrant and was rejected because of his youthful indiscretions with al Qaeda. Will this new law help him? Yes indeed. The amendments will apply to: '(1) removal proceedings instituted before, on, or after the date of the enactment of this section; and (2) acts and conditions constituting a ground for inadmissibility, excludability, deportation, or removal occurring or existing before, on, or after such date.' Everybody is welcome, because the Bill’s politically correct drafters do not want to exclude anyone. We also think this applies to all alien proceedings, not just Iraqi aliens."

Yes, lets blur the line between 'immigrants' and 'refugees' so we can insinuate that any immigrant, legal or otherwise, is really like a refugee - and Americans who want American laws enforced are really just trying to hurt refugees.

How predictable.

With the terrorist threat as high as it, and illegal aliens still being allowed to cross our borders unimpeded, a moratorium on visas, and legal immigration should be put in place until we can straighten this mess out. Our focus should be placed on securing our borders and ports, prosecuting illegal employers, and rounding up and deporting illegal aliens. Of course this is all just a matter of common sense, a commodity sadly lacking in Washington. A case in point, Kay Bailey Hutchison, she recently voted YES, on a bill giving illegal aliens more welfare money. Giving illegal aliens American tax dollars, on it's face, should be illegal, yet we've got idiots like Hutchison more than willing to suck up to the illegal alien proponents in a bid to quarry favor with them. Never mind the fact that in giving illegal aliens welfare, she has insured that tens of thousands more illegals will be hearing this news and falling all over themselves trying to cross our borders and feed at the American tax dollar trough. This bill will take some 2 billion dollars from American Senior citizens and Children. This bill is so wrong, it is sickening to think any American Senator could have vote for it. Even back-door, Senator Cornyn, voted NO on this bill. As strong a proponent for H1-B visas as he is, he still could see the total wrongness of this bill. Kay Baily Hutchison, and other Senators of her sick-ilk, have to be removed from office. We, as a Nation, cannot support all the cast offs of Countries like Mexico, and South America who find it easier to unload their uneducated and unskilled populace on us rather than fix their own problems. So this is what it has come down to, Senators like Hutchison and other disgusting politicians stealing from our Senior citizens and Children, the two most vulnerable segments of our society, to give to people who should not be in our country in the first place. I am asking the good people of Texas to consider the option of a re-call to unseat this unscrupulous, sell-out, politician.

What I initially read about these "refugees" were from Iraq was that they were "Christians" from Iraq, and thus, were being granted access to the U.S. as refugees fleeing persecution in a largely Muslim nation.

Anyone know anything other than that? If they're random Iraqiis being granted access to the U.S. for political reasons, I can't see the point.

And, yes, the time to clarify who is a refugee and who is an immigrant is long past. It's to the point that anyone can claim asylum if and as they don't like the street they live on "back home." Or have noisy neighbors or someone stole their goats, things like that.

Any Iraq refugee resettlement in the US should only be done after the war is over and a peace treaty is signed. That's how it was in Vietnam, WWII, and other earlier conflicts. Only makes sense. When you are at war with a country, you don't want to invite your enemy into your home. I mean it's a really stupid idea.

What kind of idiocy is our government operating under?

It makes me absolutely sick that they continue to attempt to give legitimacy to these pukes!
