DHS Signs Local Enforcement Agreement in Tenn.
"The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has signed off on the
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will govern the Davidson County Sheriff’s now soon-to-be-implemented 287(g) immigration enforcement program, Sheriff Daron Hall’s office said Tuesday afternoon," the Nashville City Paper reports. "The federal approval of the contract - which still has to be formally agreed to by the Metro Council - means the Department of Homeland Security and the Metro Legal Department have agreed to language granting the Sheriff’s Office the authority and equipment necessary to perform thousands of instant immigration checks on every person booked into the Metro Nashville jail."
