DHS Quietly Promotes Employer Program "Over the past seven months, Bush administration officials have quietly Comments
Although I could be described as ferocious on immigration, and I want employers who hire illegals to be stuck with punishing fines, this quiet employer program seems reasonable to me. As the country shifts its labor model toward ensuring U.S. citizens are always first in line and all imported labor must be legal, the country needs an orderly path for making the change. The problem goes away quietly, and Congressional leaders can avoid stepping into the fray on an issue few want to talk about, if the federal government simply enforces the law. Gradually, the illegals will leave; that's basically FAIR's position as I understand it. Having said that, those employers who fail to follow these sensible and face-saving DHS and White House guidelines will justly deserve whatever our justice system needs to do to change behavior. If stiff fines aren't enough, then repeat offenders will have to go to jail. Posted by: Concerned Citizen on January 29, 2007 10:39 AM I find it unwise to have the government sneaking around behind our backs with these kind of programs. The government knows that most Americans want a decrease in immigration and federal law enforced when it comes to illegal aliens. Why hide this program in the shadows? What are they trying to keep from us? Brian Posted by: Brian on January 29, 2007 11:02 AM WOLF EMPLOYER GUARDING THE MIDDLE CLASS HENHOUSE There are many problems with the self-audit program by illegal alien employers as follows: 1. It assumes we need guest workers in the first place, a totally rash and wrong assumption. 2. If you don't comply, what happens, the proverbial wink and smile, as before? Posted by: Softwarengineer on January 29, 2007 11:34 AM Has anyone seen the cost of goods and housing go down because businesses hire illegals? I haven't. The employers are just making obscene profits. It's always the same lame excuse. Posted by: Ella on January 29, 2007 01:21 PM Brian What are they hiding? When has this administration not hid everything from us? The only thing they tell us we find out down the road are lies. Now watch the slight of hand. Bush is good at this trick and so is cheney. Bush is not allowing them to save face, he trying to show that all the jobs were not being taken by illegals. Americans are pissed by the lack of jobs he's simply freeing up some work for Americans so he can take the credit for putting Americans back to work and creating new jobs. He hasn't changed his mind on Amnesty though, as soon as he thinks we are pacified he will bring in more illegals for his big business buddies. Posted by: HELEN on January 29, 2007 02:06 PM Brain, Helen, sneaking around has become the modus operande of the past 8 U.S. administrations. It's American citizens fault when they don't get involved to keep an eye on these cretons. Posted by: Bobby on January 29, 2007 03:05 PM Ella, you have brought up an obvious and a simple but so often overlooked fact that puts the lie to the assertion that this country needs to be flooded with millions upon millions of so called cheap laborers. So called cheap laborers because they are anything but. I just came back from Ralphs, you know, that reliable supporter of the illegals during the "Grande Marches" in Los Angeles, and the price of the vegetables, and fruits was sky high. Where, as you say Ella, is the great benefitt in savings Americans get. Bull--t. I have gone to Las Vegas and the roomrates are not cheap. It's all just the biggest bunch of bulls--t that has ever been fed to Americans. Only the war on "terror" is a bigger crock. As far as I'm concerned the real motivation for both the war and mass immigration has'nt been explained by a single politico. In fact, the millions of illegals flooding into this country, include gang members and drug dealers and other "'terrorists". What the hell else would you call some of these clowns? Conclusion: the war on terror is already right here and the fact that neither Republicans or Democrats take the border seriously is proof that the "war on terror" is a farce, Rush Limbaugh and the Democrats be damned. Americans need to pay attention to people who will remove the blankets from their heads. Tancredo for President -008- Posted by: Bobby on January 29, 2007 04:05 PM DEMOCRATS KNOW THE DHS IS A JOKE, THEY ADMIT IT TODAY http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070129/ts_nm/security_congress_dc Posted by: Softwarengineer on January 29, 2007 04:44 PM If we had a system of secure verifiable biometric social security cards and where the basic pilot program was mandatory and universal we could have a "safe harbor" rule for employers. By safe harbor they would not be subject to fines or penalties the first time they hired an illegal. Of course they won't hire illegals because they cannot get around the system, but that is the point. Posted by: hugo on January 29, 2007 05:39 PM Ella, you're right. All the talk of food being less expcnsive when we have illegal labor is just another lie, but we're used to government lies by now, aren't we? I go to the produce section, where all the illegals gather, and have to make a choice on what I can buy. The prices are sky high, and on a fixed income it isn't easy to pay, but their baskets are overflowing. Looks like Bud Light is the winner after judging many of the illegal's baskets. I'm assuming the non-English speakers are illegal since to be a citizen you must read, write and speak English. They are pouring into our town and it looks like no end to the masses who intend to invade and colonize. This is all brought to you by your federal government. I'd love to see Bush's eyes light up when he speaks of Americans as they do when he talks about illegals. He's obsessed with them. Posted by: June on January 29, 2007 06:04 PM June, I agree with you. All of this stuff going on is brought to this country by the government, Democrats included. In fact, the democrats are responsible for the larger part of it, since had they helped the other party, we might be on the way to solving this mess. The democratic party, even more than the Republican party, is gung ho, all the way, about outsourcing, insourcing and everything that hurts any and all Americans. Have no doubt. Tancredo-008- Posted by: Bobby on January 29, 2007 06:36 PM Where did this info come from?I don't believe a word of it. Posted by: mary on January 29, 2007 08:12 PM The INS did this in the 1970s and called it Program Cooperation. The INS promised not to raid employers that promised not to hire the documentally challenged. Such businesses quickly became illegal alien preserves. Posted by: iceman on January 30, 2007 09:04 AM |
