Writer Proposes Mass Iraqi Refugee Resettlement After U.S. Pullout
George Packer, writing in the New Republic, says the U.S. should prepare to
resettle thousands of Iraqis in the U.S. as a reward for their service during the U.S. occupation of Iraq. “Those Iraqis who have had anything to do with the occupation and its promises of democracy will be among the first to be killed: the translators, the government officials, the embassy employees, the journalists, the organizers of women’s and human rights groups ... If the United States leaves Iraq, our last shred of honor and decency will require us to save as many of these Iraqis as possible," Packer says. "This is the first articulation of the idea I’ve seen in print, but the idea probably has been percolating around a bit. The author of course does not address the fact that thanks to our heedless immigration and refugee policies there are now tens of thousands of Somali Muslims in the United States, either pushing on us the beginnings sharia law (no alcohol in Minneapolis taxi cabs) or going home to fight the jihad against Ethiopia, after which they’ll return to the United States or Canada with their new military training, their new jihadist connections, and their new wounds whose therapy the Western taxpayer will end up paying for," says one commenter at View from the Right.
