Mickey Kaus: Mass Immigration and The Threat of Separatism

Slate's Mickey Kaus says an op-ed by Tony Horwitz in the New York Times is all wrong about immigration. Horwitz says Americans should not forget much of the Western Hemisphere was settled by Spain. "Current pro-legalization dogma assures us that there is no reason to worry about of Quebec style separatism or Kosovo-style irredentism in the Southwest. Horwitz shows why there are plenty of reasons to worry. The stronger the prior Spanish claim the worse the danger--and the more reason to get control of the border, and of the cultural composition of the next generation of immigrants, before it's too late. Fuentes easy invocation of 'oetic justice'isn't shaming so much as chilling. We want immigrants who come for freedom and prosperity, not 'oetic justice,' no?" asks Kaus.

It is the 21st Century and we cannot let the past drag us to a place that is not in the best interests of the United States of America and her citizens. The majority of US citizens and those who are in this country legally, want both legal and illegal immigration reduced from these levels. Nothing else, except deportation, is acceptable. Maybe Spain needs these people, we don't.

Don't ever let a Spanish person compare them to Mexicans. They are not one in the same. Any Spanish person will tell you that the Mexicans don't speak Spanish.

There is a certain validity to Fuente's observation.Let's face it! The present situation, put in historical context shows that Mestizo Mexican people (La Raza) have some limited special
claim to sit at the American Southwest table. Even I, a VERY hardline guy on the "Illegal Migrant Issue", admit some practical preference is justified. But I hasten to point out they have ALREADY been cut the SLACK they can reasonably expect. We have literally accepted the nuetering of the force of law to accomodate them. Hell, there are propably 30 million here, if you count the present illegals, their "Anchor Babies" and the group covered by the 1986,Simpson-MazzoliAmnesty. This doesn't count very long term,or fully legal Mexican-Americans, at all!I wish people understood the meaning/implications of IRRIDENTISM. We simply can't take in so many from a near and competing culture without being taken over by those peaceful immigrants!!! They are expecting us to commit cultural Hari-Kari to please them. The door should be shut to all possible illegal entrants. Airline tourism should be severely restricted. Cross border car traffic should be limited to points within 30 miles of the border. A secondry check line should tightened to check the trunk , and papers of all "out of US" cars. Plese note folks that a huge number simply drive in to shop or go to Disneyland. A good Mexican Passport should be required to enter deeper. This whole thing calls for common sense,
and at least a 1500 mile long Iraeli style fence.
The areas not fenced should have a stainless steel
cable, defining the actual border. Try to cross
the cable in those unprotected regions and their
"ILLEGAL MIGRANT BUTTS" are subject to an instant "Murder-One level Felon/Escapee" status, who can be shot for any false move againt the arresting officers. These rugged areas cannot be fenced with anything that will keep intruders out!

The past is the past. As a sovereign nation, we must control immigration for the benefit of all here now and for future generations.

Legal immigration must be controlled and illegal immigration must be stopped.

If you want to have a great country left to leave to your children and grandchildren.

We enjoy a prominent place in the world because we are an economic powerhouse. Importing 100 million of the lowest socio economic contributors will not help us preserve this position.

Just think how many more freeways you will need for another 100 million people? The never mentioned costs of such infrastructure is never mentioned. Even the obvious costs of k 12 free education, free medical care and social security costs are rarely acknowledged.

After years of moderating our reproduction efforts to curb population Bush wants to invite 100 million people because he thinks we didn't raise enough of our own?

Kaus is a visionary for recognizing how reactionary the "liberal" point of view is on illegal immigration.

This is a seperatist movenment. It is dangerous and subversive. We have been feeding the enemy and have ccoddled and cater to them far too long! Let your elected officials here it! We do not want our tax dollars funding a group wishing to conquer the Southwest!

Anyone funding this hate group or hiring illegal aliens is a traitor!

I am writing to all officials to stop funding this group with our tax dollars, and I urge all patriotic Americans to do the same!

Horwitz is no intellect. For example, Spain does not, in fact, lay claim to the area of the United States. If it did, this would be headline news, and they certainly lack the military to take us by force. Not that anyone cares, because Spain is an ally and friend of the United States.

Mexico...now that's another matter...
