Rove Tells La Raza: Casa Blanca es su Casa

"U.S. President George W. Bush's senior political advisor, on Tuesday took the administration's message on immigration reform to Latino leaders, saying the country was approaching a 'critical moment' in the debate. Speaking at the annual convention of leading Latino civic group the National Council of La Raza, Rove said Bush would work with Republicans and Democrats in coming weeks to push through reform legislation that has bitterly divided Congress, the Republican Party and the nation," the AP reports. 'We face a critical moment in our immigration debate, a moment when our nation will make an important decision about what kind of country and what kind of society we will be,'' said Rove, one of Washington's most powerful and polarizing figures." The LA Times wrote, "Cecilia Munoz, La Raza vice president, said she was 'encouraged' by Rove's remarks in support of broad immigration reform at a time when a wing of his party is pushing what she sees as a punitive approach focused on cracking down on illegal immigrants."

"This level of pandering is so pathetic, I'm surprised they haven't started calling illegal immigrants 'pre-legal citizens,'" said one post on Free Republic discussing Rove's speech.

"So, diversity is everything that America is, everything that it means, and this diversity is only held together by ... no, not by the self-evident truths that 'all men are created equal, endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights,' but by a 'dream.' Held together by a dream? What is a dream? A dream is someone’s wishes and desires. Bush and Rove have cast aside the objective truths of human nature that America was founded on and are declaring a new America, founded on everyone’s wishes and desires," says Lawrence Auster

Update July 13 - Steve at the Pardon My English blog says, "Given the fact that they are pandering to Latino racists, I can't help but think that [Tom] Tancredo is right. Remember the first term when Bush was a conservative? I'm beginning to think that was a gimmick as well. At least we got tax cuts and a serious effort to fight global terror."
