Chaos at Maryland DMV as 9/11 Families Fight License Ruling for Illegal Aliens
"Overnight lines outside several MVA branches have
evolved since the agency last month stopped taking appointments for immigrants to get driver's licenses and began a walk-in process. Maryland license applicants do not have to be U.S. citizens, needing only to produce a variety of documents to prove state residency as well as attend a three-hour drug and alcohol course," the Washington Times reports. "Last year, CASA sued the MVA, saying among other things its appointment process was discriminatory because it separates foreign-born applicants from the general public. The case is pending in Baltimore City Circuit Court."
As a matter of fact, CASA requested, and got, an opinion from the Maryland Attorney General stating that Maryland had to give drivers licenses to people even if they were not Maryland residents. That's the real reason why lines are so long at Maryland DMV offices - the state, like Tennessee and other states that assist illegal immigration, is now a magnet for illegal aliens on the entire east coast.
In response to this illegal practice, the 9/11 Families for a Secure America have sought to intervene in the case with the assistance of IRLI (Immigration Reform Law Institute) a new public interest litigation venture affiliated with FAIR. The filing by 9/11 FSA makes several claims, including that allowing illegal aliens to get licenses violates the REAL ID act, as well as other federal laws and would cause harm to citizens with Maryland driver's licenses.
