Frist Says Immigration Debate Coming Next Week in Senate

"Senate Majority Leader Frist said today he hopes to schedule debate on immigration legislation next week, aiming to finish the legislation the following week. Frist, in an exchange with Minority Leader Reid, said the two leaders would continue to negotiate the number of amendments and the makeup of the Senate conference team before the immigration legislation could return to the floor," CQ's Congress Daily reports. "Before the Easter break, Frist pulled the carefully crafted compromise because he and Reid could not reach an agreement on the two sticking points. Frist also said he would continue discussions with GOP senators who are demanding votes on numerous amendments. 'We're doing our very, very, very best to -- to focus each and every day on the amendments,' said Frist, adding he would like to whittle the list to 'substantive amendments' and not 'amendments just for political reasons.'"

FAIR has an updated side-by-side comparison of the "compromise" bill being floated along with immigration enforcement bills

HEY US SENATORS: WE WANT THE FAIR CONGRESS PROPOSED BILL, NOT YOUR MARXIST VERSION

New Zogby Poll Shows 2:1 Support for House's "Enforcement First" Approach vs. the Senate's Amnesty Proposal
A recent Zogby poll of likely voters shows Americans believe current immigration levels are too high and support legislation that would strengthen border security, require businesses to verify the employment eligibility status of workers, and increase Department of Homeland Security cooperation with local law enforcement. The poll shows Americans support the reforms in the House-passed immigration reform legislation, H.R. 4437, over the Senate immigration bill:
When asked what the best way is to deal with illegal immigration, 64% supported the House bill's approach of enforcing immigration laws and encouraging illegal immigrants go home over time while only 30% supported the Senate bill, which would grant amnesty to 12 million illegal aliens and coupled with a doubling of legal immigration.

Support for the House approach was widespread, with 81 percent of Republicans, 72 percent of independents, 57 percent of Democrats, and 53 percent of Hispanics saying it was good or very good idea.

Seventy-three percent of Americans have little or no confidence in the ability of the government to screen out terrorists and criminals if there is a mass amnesty for the 12 million illegal aliens currently in the U.S.
The American people recognize illegal immigration is a serious issue, and enforcement of our immigration laws must be our first priority. The complete poll can be found at http://www.cis.org/articles/2006/2006poll.pdf

Get them out of here. They are not immigrants, they are fence climbing law breakers and I along with many other millions of Americans are having to pay over $1,000 yearly just to have them exploit our social services. I met a woman who came over 7 months pregnant to have a baby citizen in the U.S. It's not hard to do. Cancel the anchor baby, the constitution does not guarantee this. Build the fence. Tell the contractors you are going to fine them, FOR REAL, and then fine them. There are Americans in school that can finish the houses we have left. There are Americans for every job. The schools that were carefully built by the American people over the last several decades have been turned to CRAP CRAP by the damn labor busters. My child learned 1 thing in 1 semester in American history because of the wide differences of student abilities in the classroom. Half the kids can do the work, the Illegal Aliens can't speak English and do any of it. No Special Programs for Illegal Aliens. They shouldn't be bringing school kids that can't speak the language to another country and making them drop outs. They should be thinking of their kids first and staying in Mexico. The last thing. 95% of Americans DON'T OWN businesses. 95% of Americans can't raise $5,000 cash in 24 hours. WHY, WHY are you taxing them for ILLEGAL Aliens? Why are you making them LIVE with Illegal Aliens? If Bill Gates wants Illegal Aliens, he can pay for all of them, ALL their school care, all their hospital care, all their food, clothes, everything they ever need. They send the money they make back to Mexico. THEY NEVER do anything for Me. Why should I pay one dime for them? Why should I have to live next to them? They can all live in Bill Gates house. They can all live with George Bushshit and John McLiar. We are not responsible for the wages in Mexico, We are responsible to OUR children. Make Mexico fix their economic problems now, or we will be their dumping ground forever. Hell, they are making more money off of their Invasion of the U.S. than they could cleaning up their country, and we are the IDIOTS.

Thanks Bill Frist , after being hijacked by haters you have realise what we in America need.
Comprehensive immigration so that we can relieve our law enforcement officers to go after dope dealers , criminals and coyotes.

We do not have to choose between being a nation of laws and one that welcomes immigrants whether they look like us or not.

Minute men (are you still in the house) or still doing the caravan ?wake up and smell the coffee.

Where is your Tancredo by the way? Why is he not a senator? Still running for the president? Tell him to consult Pat Buchanan on how to win presidential elections in America based on spewing hate rhetoric and he will realise how far he will go with us 'conservative'

Why don't DC politicians see that we don't need more talk--just a lot more ACTION! There are immigration laws on the books that are being totally ignored. I guess that fits my definition of corruption when the federal government, and I mean both political parties, totally ignore these laws. They can't pick and choose which ones fit their political agendas. However, they are saying they are going to come up with other laws they will enforce? They seriously think US citizens are going to believe this line of BS, too! How will they enforce new ones yet ignore old ones. We need BORDER SECURITY before there can be anything else. No more excuses and no more putting other stories ahead of immigration on the news as a way of diffusing the anger of US citizens. What sorry excuses DC politicians are for ignoring their oaths to adhere to the laws of the land. I am also totally sick of the liberal slant on the news. Check out the VDARE.com web site today and read Juan Mann's article. "Reporting Illegal Aliens--More Immigration Reality from Juan's Inbox." If you know of someone illegally in this country, report them. Report to deport! There's also some amusing jokes in the blog under "Late Night with Reconquista" and some interesting statements from country music's Charlie Daniels.

The root of the problem now, has to do with the way our president has been brain- washed by some Spanish politicians. He has to realize that his colleagues have to look-good in front of the neediest activist in this election term. The Spanish press also has a big slice on this guilt, by keeping every one in the Spanish community organized. But from the same reporters, we also get updates from countries where all these immigrants are coming from, and the caliber of people they are producing. Places like Guatemala for instance, the social attitude is so disastrous there, that when a thief gets caught, they burn them alive and naked in FRONT OF ALL THE NEIGHBORHOOD, in some sections of the country. Call them innocent, ok! The congress people have not made provisions to screen the behavior and records of these nationals. They care less for homeland security… It has become a religion to defend the illegal immigrants in communities like mine in Miami Florida. The pro-immigrants use 2 faces with the American politics. I don’t like their hypocritical attitude. I feel that only Americans should be having a right to say in this issue but they are ignored all the way…

People James: What planet are you from ?
Are you related to Vicenete Fox ?
Do you work in the Bush Administration ?

Posted by: pancho villa on May 9, 2006 07:59 PM

I don't have any relations to Vincent Fox, infact i care less about him and corrupt government. And i neither work for GW.

All i care is for hardworking un documented workers. They are not criminals just trying to make ends meet like every one esle and they deserve a chance.

All criminals and those on welfare should be denied earned legalization. Those hard working folks who plan to learn english, pay back taxes if they owe any and remain in a job , should be given a fair shake of the american dream. Is that a deal?.

Y is for Yahoo , not for clowns like Tancredo and his crowd.
The more we conservative identify with Reagan the better , Tancredo is a big time loser, he has never sponsored a legislation on immigration that has passed in Congress which is a good thing. He has even supported third party candidates for the US house of representative and all have flopped (Jim Gilchrist). He is out of the mainstream America and really i feel sorry for him.

The truth about illegal immigration: Our government has turned its back on the citizens of this country. The Senate will more than likely pass watered down senate bill. For the last 50 plus years no Republlican of Democrat president has done anything to save our country from this travesty. The elite bunch are more concerned with cheap labor and sending companies across the border or overseas to fill their coffers with cash. Mexico has the third largest oil reserves in the americas, if we protect our borders from invasion like the Constitution declares the government is scared that mexico will cut off oil to us. We have a big problem the country is self-destructing due to spineless politicans that are allowing the country to be run over. Our Republic turned Democracy is spending itself into anarchy. The "reconquista" is moving ahead, LA Raza "the race" has in depth plans to take over the Southwestern United States. The borders are being overrun by illegals and our country will suffer greatly. Our government is more interested in sealing the borders of Iraq than taking care of the U.S.A., I believe some of these politicans are TRAITORS, they took an oath to abide by the Constitution but have lied, they are bleeding our country. Instead of protecting our country they are sending our best to die for what? You say for democracy, no it was a bad mistake. While our country will slowly self destruct we are fighting for nothing, our soldiers need to be protecting and sealing off our borders from invaders,If you would like the know what is really happening check NumbersUSA.com

DEPORT

Posted by: Tracy Jones on May 10, 2006 12:30 AM

I don’t really give a damn one way or the other about amnesty for undocumented workers. We just need approval for more H1B visas. I am a co-founder of a technology recruiting and staffing firm. My corporate clients have job openings that are going either unfilled or overseas because they cannot find qualified domestic professionals. Just last month I lost a potential info tech client to Perot Systems because Perot could provide software development talent from one of their offices in India. If more H1B visas had been available, then the client probably would have kept the work here and my firm could have secured an account with them. The H1B visa cap is way too low and that is hurting the american economy as well as my business. I hope the SKIL bill to raise these limits becomes law soon!

It seems that illegal immigrants are smarter than the government because they cn circumvent the law and beat the system by coming up with fake documents. Before you know it, this country will be so saturated with illegals that there wouldnt be any room for legal migration. I hope America can find a lasting and effective solution to this urgent problem.

Posted by: lester on May 10, 2006 11:27 AM

People James, you feel sorry for all the wrong people. This fight isn't over yet, and I hope the American citizen comes out the winner, with mass deportation and a border fence and no illegals.
Regan was the biggest loser around. His alzheimer diseased brain granted the first amnesty and we all know what a failure that was. Stupid, crazy idiots kept making the same mistake through the years. If amnesty is granted, I hope it is the morons who wanted it that feel the worst effects--overcrowding, dwindling resources, high taxes to support services, and anything else that can be thrown at them. It would serve them right.
Tom Tancredo for President!!! Long live the Minutemen!!! Border Enforcement!!! Illegals Go Home!!!

Posted by: Born American on May 10, 2006 03:17 PM

P.S., People James, don't forget to feel sorry for Wayne, too.
He still thinks this issue is all about him and his business.
In my experience, Americans can do any job. You just have to put in the time and effort to find them and pay them decent, livable wages.

hey guys, not everyone in Washington DC believe illegal aliens should be here. the metro area is crowded with illegals and their gangs and our police do nothing. In fact we pay one of the highest county taxes for the our county administrators to build shelters for these people. Our senators don't listen to the voice of the people any more than anyone else's. The people here have been mislead by them just as everyone else. People James is the exception to the people here.
