Border Patrol Arrests Mexican Immigration Official
"The U.S. Border Patrol arrested a Mexican immigration official who was allegedly trying to help a group of [illegal aliens] sneak
into the United States, the Mexican government said Sunday. Immigration agent Francisco Javier Gutierrez was arrested at a checkpoint near Alamogordo, N.M., about 100 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, the Mexican Interior Department said in a news release," the AP writes. "Gutierrez had been fired on corruption allegations last year but returned to his job after winning a court case in which he claimed he had been unfairly dismissed, according to the National Immigration Institute. The Mexican government promised to cooperate with U.S. authorities in the case. A spokesman for the Border Patrol in El Paso, Texas, declined to comment Sunday."

If this guy was helping Mexicans come here, he was paid well by them. NPR ran a week long story last summer in which 'migrants' were joined by a young reporter on their trip. They PANICKED when they saw Mexican bourder authorities and lied flat on the ground until the agents drove off. Apparently, Mexican border officials almost always shake the migrants down for their bus money.
Just Tip of the Ice Berg, you can bet.
He was likely just a pawn to throw off the "dogs".
He can be sacrificed. They will find another 40-50 I am sure if they only looked.
What? You mean to tell me the mexican gov't has corruption in it's departments? It is a fool's game to believe we can count on cooperation with the mexican authorities. Whatever we communicate to them will be passed along to the criminal organizations within hours. We have to stop the fantasy and do this on our own.
You are right, Critter, this IS just the TIP of the iceberg. This nation has a culture of corruption and bribery. They live in it, off it, with it. It is now such an ingrained expectation and behavior that I sincerely doubt that they can rid themselves of it--whether here or there.
I know that all our veteran posters are well aware of the level of corruption in ALL government and military agencies in Mexico, but for those of us who are new and who have not had firsthand experience, it is absolutely VITAL that we know/understand that the only people "in control" of their particular organization are the drug cartels and the gangs. It is truly sad that honest Mexicans (yes, there are some!) are trapped above and below in any group or organization by those who are lying, swindling, betraying, and cheating. This negates anything that the honest ones try to do and usually means that their lives are in danger. Due to this, we can, therefore, TRUST NO ONE from Mexico's government or military. Even if we were to dialog with an honest one, it would be immediately soiled/sullied by those around him/her. Sad, but true. Reagan's saying, "Trust but verify" does not work here. Instead, with Mexico and Central America, one must say, "Distrust heartily, verify, watch, verify again, remain alert".
You are correct, the tip of the iceberg and what's worse, with the "discovery" of the latest tunnel, we all know that there has to be just as much complicity on this side of the border...
I am sickened by the fact that so many are swayed by money, not integrity...from the lowliest workers to our elected officials...makes this a sad day for this American.
Mexicans are NOTORIOUS for their lying, dishonesty and deceit and thievery. This fully applies to the corrupt Mexican government. My 18-year-old daughter is half-Mexican and her dad took her to Mexico either last week or this one.
There are honest Mexicans but they are usually over there in Mexico as honest Mexicans would not cross the border because they know it is a crime and they will not commit a crime. The lying, deceitful, thieving Mexicans will cross the border in a heartbeat while knowing it is a crime as they don't care. Lying, dishonesty, deceit, and thievery are a way of life in Mexico.
