Border Patrol Uniforms "Made in Mexico"

"The labels inside the U.S. Border Patrol uniforms have been making many federal agents feel uneasy. It's not the fit or feel of the olive-green shirts and pants, but what their labels read: 'Made in Mexico.' 'It's embarrassing to be protecting the U.S.-Mexico border and be wearing a uniform made in Mexico,' says T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, a 6,500-member union," the AP reported. "For more than a year, the shirts and pants worn by agents and inspectors with U.S. Customs and Border Protection have been made in Mexico. The uniforms are supplied by VF Solutions of Nashville, Tenn., which subcontracts its work to plants in the United States, Mexico, Canada and the Dominican Republican."

I don't hear them complaining about the comfort, quality and durability.

Here, again, is a situation in which contractual stipulations should be made.

I said it many times that federal contracts for the reconstruction in New Orleans should stipulate legal labor or forefeit the money - but King George negated that by suspending the ruling.

This company should be reprimanded and stipulations made in the contract that only U.S. labor will be used. It might cost a bit more but it would give the U.S. economy some boost.

I don't hear them complaining about the price either!

Go back to Mexico Ralph!

I believe the government requires that these uniforms be made in America, so by sub-contracting this work, the company has likely violated American law and should be summarily fined, fired and jailed for their breach of security!

They should be happy that there is work in Mexico. See, that's the point that I don't get, why is Mexico such a sh*y country that so many would risk their lives to get the hell out? The more products that are made in Mexico, the less of them come here illegaly.

Well, what do you expect? We made it so easy, years ago, for businesses to operate in other countries, cheaper than they can operate here.
The person who said this could turn into a problem with security, makes a good point, and these sub-contractors should be looked into.
And Ralph, no one doubts that maybe they are well made, but we all know, that is not the point.

For me this is a non starter. I think the gov't should demand any purchases are done from American firms using American workers where pactical, but there are much bigger problems with immigration than where the uniforms are made (as long as the uniforms are closely monitored and not sold to mafia and coyotes). I understand the arguments against this practice, but my guess is if made in America, it will be made wby foreigners on a visa or by illegals. At least this keeps a few mexicans in mexico rather than running the border guantlet. I understand at the same time it is the priciple of the thing. Just my opinion.

What I would like to see if the union for the border patrol agents protest this and demand that all uniforms are to made in the USA using American labor only.

I am sure that if the Border Patrol uniforms were made in China instead of Mexico, the uniforms would have cost at least 1/2 the price, with the same quality of material and workchildship. Once again we taxpayers are being ripped-off.

From Plantation USA.

Dear Mr Catch and Release
If you all spent less time crying about crap like this and more time spent doing your jobs we would have less illegals.

But at least they are in Mexico making them rather than here.....while I'd rather see USA made goods as an alternative making them for us in their country keeps them away from here and making a living there....
