Day Labor Centers: Never Gets Better, but is it Going To Get Worse?


The Los Angeles Times has a long article on the controversy over day laborer hiring centers. The article includes the view that, "Every major city, even smaller cities, are struggling with this," said Victor Narro, project director at the UCLA Downtown Labor Center. "It's become a national issue." It quotes California’s Save Our State spokesperson Joseph Turner as commenting, “There is a momentum with cities building or thinking about building these day labor centers because they think that is the only way to manage the situation. We're trying to stop that momentum." The paper notes that those efforts by SOS are having some success.
