Delay Criticizes Houston, Other "Sanctuary Cities"

"Speaking to a packed house of Fort Bend County Republican faithful, [Rep. Tom] DeLay [R-TX] said he supported the concept behind legislation introduced by U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., that would withhold federal funding from cities such as Houston that refuse to enforce immigration law," the Houston Chronicle reports. "'It greatly concerns me that the police chief in Houston, Texas, has created a sanctuary in Houston by announcing that he is not going to enforce our laws,' the Sugar Land Republican said, in response to a question about Tancredo's bill."

It's so nice to finally see some politicians thinking clearly. A few are beginning to come out of the open-borders brainwashing fog and applying some common sense without worrying about being falsely condemned as racist. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mr. Delay! I hope he's getting lots of letters of support.

For once, I would like to see a politician back up his words with action. They all talk a good game but they never do anything, except for my hero, Tancredo. I am glad Delay took this stance, but guranteed that if he were to go speak to some hispanic conference this week, he would be singing a completely different tune.

Thank you, Rep. Delay. I just don't know what to make of this. It seems to me that any meaningful action on immigration doesn't stand a chance in the Senate yet. What concerns me most is how the President lied in his campaign and said "NO AMNESTY". How many candidates will adopt, adapt and improve on that lie to win in '06? Delay and Tancerdo still seem to be way ahead of the curve. My greatest hope is for other candidates to see the popularity they enjoy. . . and then NOT be lying when they talk about it! We FAIR supporters need to pay particular attention to who the big doners are next time out. When the Stein Report provides these links, I often e-mail the author and either thank them or question them (depending on what they conclude for their readers) in the hope that they will think to ask the right questions if ever they get the chance to cover a campaign. I think that is more important than e-mailing politicians. The press is the only obstacle left to a well funded crony, so they need to feel the tide, too.

Lets see, he's speaker of the house of Congress, Congress controls spending and immigration for all the federal government.

His party also controls the Senate, Whitehouse and Congress.

I think Tom DeLay is the problem, not Mexico or Mexicans or Texas municipalities.

He's got a lot of nerve to complain about any governmental entity that answers to himself (in a direct cash funding & law making sort of way).

I hope he means what he's said. But I've heard alot of B.S. from politicians over the years. If he truely means it let's try to help him change some minds. There's a petition at reformus.org. that will be delivered to the every member of the House and Senate. There's already over 450,000 signatures on it, maybe this will help alittle. We need to let them know that "We The People" demand action not talk. For a single voice will be lost in the wind, but that of many voices will be heard.

He should start with DC, cut off all their money. It is one of the largest sanctuary cities in the country (across the street from the whitehouse)

Police Chief Ramsey often says that immigration inforcement is not his job and that the police do Not ever ask the status of anyone.

Eleanor Norton Holmes has said a number of times that she believes that all residents of DC should be able to vote no matter what their status is.

I do Not want people who are not a Citizen of this country selecting lawmakers, making policy or decisions.

Take away their funding, deport the illegals. DC could cut their the police force by a third and Holmes Norton could finally focus on the Citizens of DC instead of the illegal residents.

Sanctuary cities were outlawed in 1997 via federal law. Anyone who allows these policies to continue whether it's mayors, police chiefs, city administrators or city council members, needs to be arrested and charged with violations of federal law. The worst part is illegals are going to flock to these communities; however, they are still free to travel throughout the country doing who knows what. Governors and state legislators who remain silent about these policies are guilty of allowing them to continue because of their cowardice regarding administration of the laws of the land. They could change these situations if they truly wanted to. Political correctness should not be defined as the ability to circumvent the laws of this country. It's truly sad when strong leaders who aren't corruptable are few and far between. Do not re-elect these people--they deserve to try to live with the rest of us in the hell hole they worked so hard to create. It's called poetic justice.
