Mexico Threatens Minuteman Volunteers


"Mexico's Foreign Relations Department said Tuesday that Mexican consulates in Arizona will file criminal complaints against any illegal detentions of its citizens by volunteers of the so-called Minuteman Project. In a press statement, the department said it would also weigh further steps – apparently civil lawsuits – against people involved in what it described as 'vigilanteism' against undocumented Mexican migrants [illegal aliens]," the San Diego Union Tribune writes.

In a separate story, GovExec.com details the outrageous shackles the Border Patrol has to deal with in cases where civilian volunteers assist them. "When an agent responds to a scene where a U.S. citizen has had any interaction [emphasis added] with an illegal alien, the agent has to notify local law enforcement and wait for a response to see if a civil rights violation has occurred. Then, the agent has to transport the illegal immigrant to a holding area and contact a consular office from the immigrant's native country."
